The features mux switch and amd advantage is not working. Either the laptop will black screen before login or restart, and sometimes the laptop doesnt go to hibernate. The asus armory software itself not optimized. The issues effects seems global, meaning, all of the asus a16 has issues like this. You can find a lot of complains online via reddit and youtube. It doesn't handle well while gaming on farlight while on twitch. Probably, due graphics feature not functioning well. Poor monetization scheme on keyboard lighting features. This is so petty implementation. The instagram feature of that robot doesnt function at all, useless marketing. The display brightness is mediocre. Overall, the build quality is premium but software quality is mediocre making the overall experience clunky. Not worth it even at discount. Would be Loq15 instead or acer nitro 5 4050, or if you have more money go with asus F15 rtx 4060. If best buy gift me $400 for this review, definitely will go with lenovo legion. Xiao!

Gaming laptops can get pretty costly because you need to pack high end typically desktop equipment into a portable environment that can last a decent amount of time. For what you're getting here, its surprisingly affordable. This is very sleek and clean design. its a good way to game without standing out. The body is plastic but still feels quite solid. its all matte finish so don't worry about smudges/fingerprints. Personally, i never liked how flashy or over the top gaming laptops looked, like trying to hard to be "futuristic" out of a bad sci fi movie. Setup was easy although cumbersome with all the required steps and sign ins that windows wants nowadays, but that's not ASUS fault. There's 2 USB C ports, 2 USB A, HDMI, Ethernet and headphone jack. Its nice that its not all gone USB C. some of us still have need of USB A ports. I would have liked the power adapter to be USB C as many computers these days do, but i guess it needs to be able to draw more power given what this machine is capable of. would have been nice to spread out the ports or add additional ones given that the right side is pretty bare. Likely ok for most people as majority of people are right handed, but if you're a lefty, i can see you being annoyed. Mouse pad is good and large and feels good with a nice slippery finish. However since the majority of the time you're likely to be using an external mouse, it is a bit of a moot point. The screen is huge and the resolution is great. Such a thin bezel to maximize screen. gives a premium look to it. I tend to play racing games most of the time and dabble in FPS. Gameplay is great and overall you can play most things with a pretty high frame rate. Armoury Crate is available with it's own dedicated hard button over the keyboard so you can adjust settings and customize performance on the TUF A16. There's a lot of customize from a practical point of view as well as aesthetics. Depending on how many games you play and what kind, you may find yourself lacking in storage. You may want to invest in more storage if you're one that likes to play around. Battery however is quite good, it can do a little over 13 hours. That will vary depending on what kind of gaming you're using and the resources it requires. If you're not a gamer but still require a powerful machine (possibly engineering or whatnot) this would also be quite the option for you and you can likely get a full work day in on a charge. Given how subtle the styling is on this, i'd say its a great contender for a work computer.

    Defective iGPU

The integrated graphics only worked properly for a few weeks. It has a "mux switch" system to switch between the iGPU and dGPU as needed, depending on the task. Basic stuff stays on iGPU, but launch a game or something and it switches to dGPU after a brief delay, with a little notification at the top right saying it successfully switched. After a few weeks, that notification was just a rectangle of blur-effect filter. A few weeks after that, nothing at all. And then the real problems started. A little bit of white flickering in some widgets in one window, then larger areas, then the whole window, then more app windows, then the whole screen. Flickering when moving the mouse on various elements, flickering and then staying white for longer periods, then a totally glitched out display, indicative of a busted video card (or maybe drivers, who knows). But if I start a program that uses the dGPU, everything is fine... As long as I keep that program running. Otherwise the display immediately goes wacky again. I've tried resetting the graphics driver (ctrl shift Windows B), doesn't help. Rebooting helps for a little while, but a few "mux switches" later and it continues with the shenanigans. I tried a "hard reset" (unplug from power, hold power button 60 seconds, press power once to turn on) on the advice of Asus Support, and that held off the problem for about four days. Alas, just now I stepped away from the computer for a few minutes, Windows turned off the monitor due to power saving settings, and when I moved the mouse to turn it back on I got a totally white screen, plus the mouse cursor. A bit of control alt delete, clicking on where I guessed the account switch button might be, and it gave me the glitchy display that let me log back in and start a program to turn on the dGPU. I'm really not looking forward to wasting time with support, maybe sending the thing in for service, possibly having to open the thing up myself to undo the RAM and SSD upgrades before sending it in for service, being without a computer for who knows how long, and then having a computer I no longer trust to function properly.

Not a bad laptop for gaming but it seems if you try to do anything else it doesn’t really like to run. Brand new out of the box it started freezing and lagging. Runs games and videos almost flawlessly tho, being the only reason I’m keeping it.

The computer's performance, as a whole, works well. It plays all of the games I need it to and has had no performance issues. The issue is that after just 6 months of merely grabbing the computer each day and putting it away at night, the outer casing is breaking apart, exposing the wires where the monitor is. And now the screen on one side has distorted completely. Not army tuf. Unacceptable Asus.

    Adhesive Failure Ruined Screen

I purchased this laptop in November 2023 with zero issues until now. The adhesive is failing causing the screen to separate. The bezel literally chips off at the hinge each time it is opened or closed and at this point, I'm no longer able to use the laptop screen. A "2nd" monitor has to be plugged in to utilize the laptop. In this condition, it is no longer portable since the screen is in such a fragile state. I see that other reviews have experienced this same issue, however, ASUS support claims it is not recognized as a common problem. I have been a proud customer of ASUS in the past and now I will let everyone know to stay away from the company unless they're looking to spend $900 on a laptop that will only last a little over a year.
