This laptop is a very powerful device and quite capable of higher-end gaming. It has an excellent 14th generation Intel Core i7 processor, 32 GB of memory and a very fast graphics card. It contains 1TB of super fast PCIe G4 SSD storage. The display is an absolutely beautiful IPS FHD+ with 165Hz refresh rate. The specs at this price point are outstanding. It has a beautiful full backlit keyboard with accounting keys. The keyboard has several ‘brightness’ levels and colors. I felt it could have one more less-bright-level but that may be just me getting used to the keyboard. The feel of the keys is very solid and smooth, and there is some useful audible as well as touch feedback. This unit’s CPU has 16 cores and 24 threads, I could not seem to overload the system. The 30MB cache is part of the high end specs and the DDR5 memory (which is 1.5 times faster than DDR4) ensures this wonder-box is flying through processing tasks at super-speeds. Another excellent specification that could be overlooked, is the Thunderbolt 4 port which I want to emphasize is a game changer (no pun intended). This port can support dual 4K displays or a single 8K display. It can also provide much greater charging power than a plain USB port. What is most important for me, right now, is it can handle PCIe data rates. I use an external drive that is an NVMe SSD drive. Using a plain USB port, my backups are limited to the USB port speed. But now, with this Thunderbolt 4 port, I get the full advantage of the speed of my NVMe external drive – great. Game playing is a delight. There wa no action too fast for this laptop to process cleanly. The screen colors really pop out and the edges between different colors are perfect. I also used a color generator to see how beautiful and distinct the color patterns were – tip of the cap to the ASUS engineers for this remarkable device. Along with game playing, my presentation graphs and images look truly professional (or at least a lot more polished than I am). I am super impressed with this fantastic laptop. I love its big bright 16-inch display more than any other laptop I’ve used. I would highly recommend this device with its very fair price relative to its high-end and powerful specifications.

Smooth and capable FHD Gaming Experience!

The ASUS - TUF Gaming F16 16" FHD+ 165Hz Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i7-14650HX - 32GB RAM - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 - 1TB SSD - Jaeger Gray offers a smooth and capable FHD gaming experience with plenty of power for ultra smooth frame and refresh rates in AAA gaming titles. The 165Hz IPS display has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 16:10 ratio which I much prefer over the 1080p 1920 x 1080 16:9 ratio displays. Everything looks great on it and games look exceptionally good! Very sharp details and rich colors with deep blacks and no light bleed that I could see. Nice matte display surface assures no annoying light reflections, which 100% prefer over glass displays. The brightness levels have a good range as well. The laptop has a solid feel to it and enough weight to where you can open the screen without the base lifting up off the desk surface. The display opens easy and has a solid smooth hinge with no wabble. It looks great with its brushed metal finish and matte finish plastics. The keyboard has a nice tactile feel to it and RGB effects which are configurable in the included Armoury Crate software which lets you see and adjust all sorts of configuration options on the laptop from GPU performance, RGB effects, power options, touchpad and function key settings, creating Aura Wallpapers for dynamic desktop background effects. You can also setup Scenario Profiles for each game where you can adjust all the settings per application or game and have it automatically adjust when you open the application or game. There is a LOT of features in this application and found there is a bit of a learning curve to figure everything out. Should provide hours and hours of tweaking fun if you're into that! Setup was easy with the standard Windows 11 setup process. Getting all the updates downloaded and drivers up to date takes an hour or two. The system performs very snappy with running productivity applications or surfing the web. The included 32 GB of RAM makes sure you can open many applications or tabs without any performance decline. The 1 TB SSD makes loading things quick and smooth. It would've been nice to see a 2TB SSD in this configuration and price range. The Intel Core i7-14650HX has plenty of oomph to handle any task you throw at it! The sound on the laptop is pretty good for a laptop. Nice and clear and handles the volume output well. The Dolby audio settings let you adjust the audio parameters to your liking along with several presets. The speakers could use a bit more bass thump, but overall pretty decent for games, music or movie watching if you're not using a headset. One thing that really stood out on this laptop to me is the cooling! Probably the quietest and coolest running gaming laptop I've ever tested. Pretty much every gaming laptop I've tested over the years warms up a lot while gaming and can be quite noisy or even too hot to put in your lap. This laptop runs super cool and without barely any fan noise that I could notice even under stress. Battery life is pretty normal for a gaming laptop. The system will automatically switch between the embedded gfx and discrete graphics depending on application and helps extend the battery life when not plugged in. I was able to get around 6 hours of video playback on a full charge with power saving features engaged. Gaming is an hour or 2 depending on the game if you're using discrete graphics. Probably not a system you want to leave home without the power brick if you're going to be using it for more than a few hours of normal activities. It does recharge pretty quick from empty to full charge in around an hour. All of the ports are on the right or left sides with none on the backside, which is a little unusual for a gaming laptop. Network port, and HDMI port, headphone jack and a couple USB-C ports on the left side and a couple USB 3 ports on the right side. The Nvidia 5060 does a fine job running games in FHD with most of the bells and whistles turned on. It does have a noticeable performance decline with the DLSS ray tracing turned on if you're wanting to use it for that I'd probably recommend getting a configuration with the 5070 and higher as I noticed a substantial performance drop when that was enabled in games like Fortnite. I honestly can't tell much of a difference in graphical quality with ray tracing turned on, so in my opinion it's not worth the performance hit. Without the DLSS turned on it is ultra smooth and just a much more satisfying gaming experience. Overall this is a very capable laptop for either gaming or productivity! The system has 2 M.2 slots so an additional SSD can be added to expand the storage if needed.

Gaming Laptop That Punches Above It's Weight

This Asus TUF F16 laptop has an impressive list of specs. Intel Core i7-14650Hz processor with 32GB of RAM. An Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 driving 1920x1200 pixels on a 16” screen backed by a 96Wh. About the only place once could say things were skimped was on the storage end where one gets a 1TB SSD (2TB is practically standard now) and the 8GB VRAM. While you might be tempted to think this could use more pixels, and certainly for engineering work, that would be appreciated, having 1920 x 1200 pixels allows for that 96Wh battery to yield what’s actually and impressive runtime for a gaming laptop. This is just the beginning of a theme where the F16 will impress for something that’s a “gaming laptop” but also have something that counter balances that. So, unboxing the F16, the first thing you notice is that while there are hints of “gaming laptop” looks, they’re just hints. The pictures seem to go out of their way to overemphasize this. With the keyboard lighting off and palm rest stickers removed, you’d be hard pressed to pick this out as a gaming laptop at a glance. This means it’s easier to use in more business/work environments as your primary device. It looks like a premium business laptop as has more than enough performance to back that up. At almost the same time or maybe even before, you’ll notice the weight. Coming in at 5lbs, while this won’t challenge the title for lightest 16” laptop it’s right there with middle of the line budget laptops with significantly less performance and similar battery life. This double whammy concerned me - if the F16 is impressing here, surely it must be lacking in thermals. That’s about where gaming laptops sometimes disappoint - great specs, but can’t channel the heat away to sustain it. Still, staring at it clued me in to another way it has more - the screen to body ratio is amazing. Ports wise, you’ve got a thunderbolt 4 port (USB-C on steroids), a 3.2 USB-C port, a couple 3.2 USB-A ports, HDMI, and your usual power, audio, and ethernet. I’m conflicted on the HDMI versus having DisplayPort. On the one hand, you can drive a DisplayPort monitor from the thunderbolt or regular USB-C and if desired, daisy chain from that. On the other hand, HDMI is still pretty ubiquitous and so not having to go through an adapter is nice. Beyond that, ports were well spaced and all “full sized” - no strange behavior connecting to them. The keyboard felt nice, had decent travel and you get a generously sized touchpad. The touchpad felt average, not particularly sensitive but also did not exhibit registration errors. Still, I ended up sticking with my 2.4Ghz wireless mouse. The laptop comes with software to manage the LEDs. Honestly, I left them off for the most part, pretty much just using the LEDs to light up the keyboard for use in low light conditions. Getting into gaming, I cycled through a few current faves, trying medium and max at 1080p. With 8GB of VRAM, this is really a medium level card. Playing Cyberpunk 2077 with high settings, I’m able to sustain mid 80 FPS with a couple benchmark runs just jumping into the 90s. A decent showing and the screen does a good job. Where I noticed an issue was with the brightness that the screen could achieve - it seems to hit a surprising wall. Where my non-gaming fruit pro laptop can practically light up a room, the F16 apparently feels that is asking too much. On the other end of the gaming spectrum is Hellblade 2. Probably the best cinematic and encompassing audio-visual experience you can throw at anything. In some ways, probably not fair for this laptop - but it is a gaming laptop attempting to muscle in some someone’s turf. At Ultra, again 1080p, we were barely squeaking 45 FPS. A decent showing for this card, but certainly not peak. If you’re willing to run this at the natural setting for this card, medium, there you’d squeeze out around 65 FPS. Decent - absolutely. Worthy of Hellblade 2, actually yes. While the screen brightness does hamper things a bit, the laptop overcomes with surprisingly good audio. Once again running into the does one thing great while doing something else decently. For normal work, the laptop does ok. Once again, I’m disappointed with the Windows 11 Home offering. For most tasks, the F16 absolutely flies through and when on my desk hooked up to the docking station, this is perfect. Drives external displays and gives me the resolution I need to scale VS Code and run things on my 34” widescreen and 28” 90-degree rotated screen. On the go, when the laptop screen has to be the primary (and only) screen, I’m reminded of the tradeoff I get for 6-8 hours of battery life. Limited resolution means I can’t just scale things up to maintain my viewing ratio on the go. In all, I’m still pretty impressed. At the end of the day, I’d only really tweak the screen resolution. I’d be happy to have a 4k capable screen with the ability to switch down to 1080p to match what the card can support for gaming in exchange for giving me the flexibility I need for work. With the muted design, relatively light weight, the F16 is ready to stay within reach for all workloads.

I have been out of the gaming arena for a little while now, but having teenage sons who are heavy in it, I decided to get back in the game. Literally. I have always preferred PC gaming over consoles simply because the learning curve for me having to memorize the location of 20+ buttons on a game controller is more than I have the capacity for at my age. Pair that with the fact that I came up on a gaming system that had two buttons, A and B. The learning curve for me on a gaming laptop is much easier and I was able to get back into the swing of things pretty quickly. This rig isn’t something that you would consider ultra-portable. It has some weight to it, but it will fit in a backpack if you must take it on the go. The charging brick is USB-PD, which is a bit heavier than your typical USB-C charger, but due to the power needed to run this, it’s not unexpected. I believe this has multiple fans underneath which helps to keep the rig cool and the display is probably the best I’ve seen on a laptop in a long time. The refresh rate is an astounding 165hz and has excellent speakers for audio, although I prefer to use a headset so that I can talk a little smack while destroying my sons. This is the first laptop that I have that has Dolby Atmos built-in. If you haven’t used Dolby Atmos for home theater, you are missing out. The audio engulfs you and makes you feel like you are part of the action. The keyboard and trackpad are both very responsive and I like that the usual movement keys are highlighted differently so that I can easily identify them. I do use a gaming mouse for gameplay, which makes it easier for movement, but the trackpad works very well and I had no issues or complaints using it before I added the mouse. There is also a dedicated Microsoft Copilot key which helps me learn some of the benefits on AI. The only issue I’ve encountered is with the IR camera. It doesn’t always recognize my face to log me into the laptop. Sometimes it takes several tries to recognize me. I prefer the camera login because it saves me from having to remember yet another password. This thing has a ton of inputs, which means you should be able to connect nearly any accessory that you want to for gameplay. It has WiFi 6E connectivity as well as a gigabit Ethernet connection. So wired or wirelessly, you are in the game. I can’t speak to the battery life as I’ve never used it unplugged, but I think most people would generally keep it plugged in while using so there is no interruption in game play. I can honestly say that this is the best gaming laptop that I have ever used and I actually prefer it over the gaming desktop that I have. If you are on the fence about this laptop, you shouldn’t be. It is a powerhouse.

Right off the bat the one thing I noticed with the Asus was just how awesome the build and looks are. Asus really knows how to make high performance laptops look the part. The Jaeger gray and TUF logo give a touch of class to match its classy performance. Its also a bit of the hefty side which is expected with whats in it. The full HD plus IPS 1920X1200 screen looks great. It has plenty of brightness and looks crisp. And at 165Hz everything moves smooth with no noticeable screen issues at all. But of course you can connect it to a high end monitor or TV for full screen gaming. The speakers arent going to blow you away, but they get the job done. Sounds are crisp and I didnt notice any popping or other noise at higher volume. The battery is OK when using it as a PC. But when gaming you wont get much before it runs out. So just like many others it needs to be plugged in while doing any real gaming. But when it is plugged in and you are doing real gaming it does it so well. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 combined with 32GB of DDR5 Ram makes everything play smooth as butter. I prefer controllers so I used my XBOX Series X controller and did some comparisons between the Asus and the Series X with the same games and they played so similar I didnt notice any real differences. Overall the gaming experience on this is great. And the Arc flow fans kept everything fairly cool, but even more impressive was just how quiet the cooling system is. Loud fans really bother me, so I am very happy with the fans here. The backlit keyboard is great too. It has just the right feel and feedback. And as far as connectivity it has all the connections you will need and then some. Overall I am ecstatic at how nice this laptop is. It does everything I want from a gaming laptop and does it perfectly for me. Highly recommended!!

The ASUS - TUF Gaming F16 laptop is a portable machine with some great IO features that many other laptops of it's class do not have. Let's start with the battery life. It's incredible. Many other batteries in gaming laptops drain ridiculously fast and yet the ASUS laptop is able to hold its own for quite a while. Again strictly dependent upon what usage you are doing. Hardcore FPS gaming at higher resolutions will drain faster than browsing on the internet and productivity applications. Where ASUS shines is their power suppy. I drained my laptop doing normal productivity work and plugged in and the battery was fully charged again in 1 hour. That is a standout power supply. The power to the USB C ports is nothing to shake a finger at either. That was able to provide a decent charge to my mobile device without issue. Diving into the graphics and processing power this laptop is perfect for the on the go gamer such as myself who travels all over the place for work. The weight is not ridiculously heavy and makes it portable for gaming on the go without sacrificing computing or graphics power. Simply put - A portable gaming laptop that doesn't break your back or bank while providing precisely what any hardcore gamer wants while away at home. Absolutely a great product made by Asus

I have to say right off, I am a big Asus fan. I’ve had several of their laptops and both ROG handhelds. These days, I really don’t think there’s anyone who does PC gaming better, especially at a decent price. That’s a hard combo, but I think Asus actually manages it pretty well. The TUF F16 is a prime example. Let’s look at just a few of the basic specs. Right off, 32GB RAM - I mean, come one. Show me another laptop at this price point with that alone. 1TB SSD – not huge these days but it’s not skimpy either. It’s got the i7 core, and it’s also got an IPS screen and I haven’t noticed any diminished response time with it. This thing is built, stacked really when you compare to other gaming laptops at this price point. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 = max settings… yup, it’s got that too. Here’s the thing for me too, Asus is consistent. They tell you what they’re going to do and then they do it. They deliver. And when something isn’t quite right, they listen and they do something about it. I wish more companies were like that because honestly, it’s refreshing. Speaking of refresh… 165Hz. Pair that with the NVIDIA and we’re talking smooth, responsive, and visually sharp. I’ll give you this, it’s not 4K, not at this price point. But it doesn’t feel like there’s any compromise here because they handled that display other ways. Sorry, you’re not really going to get anything bad out of me, certainly not on this Asus product. I really don’t think anyone could be anything but thrilled with this laptop.

Coming from my last laptop, this ASUS TUF laptop blows it away and it was a very reputable brand but in comparison, that would have been corvette and this would be a Lamborghini! The dark sleek lines and stealthy look.. looks like you would see in a top action movie sequence like Mission Impossible haha. I absolutely love the multicolor backlit keyboard against the dark framed body. Coming from 8gb to now having four times that this has with having 32 gigabytes makes doing everything feel like I'm in hyperdrive. Everything runs smooth even when running multiple programs with heavy demand. The clarity and vibrant colors from the screen are brilliant. With being a 16 inch display area it's the perfect size where 14 may be a little small and 18 inch makes for nice viewing are but more weight and size to carry for portability. This thing is a Beast! And one I think ill be using for quite a while. As I've said before my laptop reviews I don't do a whole lot of gaming on my laptops or personal computers. But working in photography pulling up multiple huge file sizes to work on them and also videography it puts high demand on the pc and this handled everything i threw at it like a champ! Would highly recommend

Good deal on a mid-tier gaming laptop

I want to separate my feelings about this laptop into two categories: The physical laptop and the performance of the hardware included. The physical laptop is exactly what I expect from a laptop designed for mainstream computer gaming: thicker and heavier than productivity laptops with a giant power brick that needs to remain plugged in at all times due to the power hungry GPU that needs lots of cooling, with ports galore to plug in my external mouse and joystick and headphones. This is the type of laptop you buy when you want to bring a computer to a friends house for an all day gaming session, not the laptop you take on a train or bus or a plane for casual computing. The Tuf series of laptops from Asus is designed for mainstream gaming with a eye on budget which means the laptop is heavy on plastic construction materials and is not using the top tier components, but I’ll come to that in a moment. Like the TUF name implies, this thing looks more utilitarian than flashy. That’s not a bad thing. The only thing I found odd about this physical laptop is the placement of the LED status lights. Typically when you open the laptop you have some type of small lights just below the center of the screen typically above the keyboard that are meant to convey details like hard drive activity, battery life, is the built in camera powered on, but for some reason Asus placed this status panel on the bottom panel of the laptop but behind the display. Opening the laptop display hides this status panel completely. Why even include a status light panel f you can’t see it when the laptop is in use? The laptop produces too much heat to use in clamshell mode so this placement just seems weird. Asus updated the power supply so that while it it still a giant brick, it uses a smaller connector to plug in, which seems to have allowed Asus to add an extra USB-A port to the side of the laptop. The extra port is appreciated. As to computing performance, this specific build is running the Nvidia RTX 5060 which is geared toward midrange 1080p gaming. You can find plenty of benchmarks online for this laptop GPU to determine if it’s powerful enough for your specific gaming needs. I’m a casual gamer so I find it performs well for the games I’m playing. I’m also old school and biased in that I think anyone serious about PC gaming should never buy a laptop and should always buy a desktop in a tower chassis that they can fill with the top tier components on the market and then swap them out every few years as the tech changes. I do appreciate the engineering marvel of being able to cram this much power into a smaller form factor of a laptop and it works for my use case, but this blend of components is very much in the lower end of the mid-tier gaming space. If that’s what you are looking for, this laptop is a good choice.

I received the ASUS TUF Gaming F16 16" FHD+ 165Hz Gaming Laptop in Jaegar Gray. This seems to be a very well made gaming laptop. The rigidity of the metal lid is above average and the base is solid, you can easily open the lid with one hand. The top and side bezels are narrow while the bottom one is thick. The sizable touchpad is great and impressively smooth and accurate. On the bottom, the machine reveals three ventilation grills, many plastic and rubber feet, and two speaker cutouts. The heat is pushed through a long vent on the back. On the left, we can spot a power plug, LAN, HDMI 2.1 FRL, a 40 Gbps USB4 port with DisplayPort 2.1 functionality, followed by a 10Gbps USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port that supports DisplayPort 1.4, Power Delivery 3.0 (20V/5A) + G-SYNC, a 10 Gbps USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, and an Audio Combo jack. On the right, you get just one more 10 Gbps USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) port. The FHD+ 165Hz 16” panel is very nice, It's crisp, sharp and smooth. It has a decent refresh rate. The keyboard includes a NUM pad and is RGB backlit with highlighted WASD keys. HDR can be enabled for video streaming, but not for gaming. Storage is a 1TB SSD. The brightness is decent, the colors are good (not pro-caliber accurate, but good enough unless you’re grading film in DaVinci Resolve). And that matte finish kills glare. Win. High CPU clocks and power limits during heavy stress, Great “Performance” mode that offers 4.05 GHz / 3.15 GHz P and E-core clock and 95W GPU TGP + low noise levels, the RTX 4070 can maintain ~ 130W during gaming. Comfortable backlit keyboard + precise touchpad Long battery life. The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 is a good gaming machine. It has a solid chassis and very good input devices. The audio quality is also up to the standards. The hefty cooling is doing a great job when using the laptop for work or gaming. It is a multipurpose device for gaming, work, or entertainment. It has a high-res PWM-free IPS screen, long battery life, good comfort during full system loads, and a modern port selection.

Asus is always a great choice and this is one more to add to the growing lineup. Here are my thoughts on this newest gaming laptop from them. Good: 1. So fast it is unbelievable. My boot time is 5 secs after turning it on. After logging in I am at my desktop almost instantly. 2. 165hz refresh makes the games, videos, and other moving objects smooth and almost blur free 3. Color gamut is great (not perfect) and gives a good blacks and whites without bleeding. When doing pictures, the colors were a little off. But, no laptop really is 100% accurate anyway. 4. Keyboard travel is nice and firm without being hard to type quickly. the reaction time is top notch as well. I am able to move around my games much easier with quicker stroke reaction. 5. Running video editing is smooth and very fast. rendering my 4k video that use to take 20-30 mins, now takes less than15. Bad: single zone color RGB. not a major thing, but it does hamper the readability of the WASD keys being the same color as the rest. Speaking of WASD keys, the fact that they are "clear" makes them hard to see the letters when the keyboard lights are on. For someone that is not a touch typist, it slows me down when I have look at my keys in that area to make sure I am hitting the right one when writing something. Ugly: 1.When connecting to my external monitor and using them both the laptop screen will flicker when using it in full screen mode (mostly on streaming videos). It does not seem to happen when only using the laptop screen alone. 2. The weird extra space in the back that adds 1" to the size of the laptop. I think it is for the heat dissipation, but this is only laptop that I own that has this on every model in last few years. I do enjoy using this, but I do have some issues with some the design choice. However, in the end it works as needed and is a step up from my former machine.
