Has dolbly digital live that I need to run my Astro a50 headsets in surround sound. I recommend this sound card. FYI installing it needs power and the sound header to the card to work. Make sure there a snug fit. You received an error if there a bad connection.

I bought this card as an upgrade for the Realtek HD sound that comes as onboard sound with my late model Intel chipset. The technician who custom made my computer assured me that the onboard sound is good. I have high standards when it comes to music and decided otherwise. The Assus Xonar DX has Cirrus Logic 24/192 DACs, comparable to Burr Browns to be found in good CD players. I listen to WAV files using Sony MDR-V6 headphones which you will see practically every studio musician and film director using (they're about 75 bucks) and I have yet to hear better. The Assus Xonar DX has much much better detail and subtlety than the Realtek, but I'm interested in really good sound quality for music. I'm very glad I spent the money.. Highly recommended. If you're just a very casual listener you may not especially notice the difference - as some other reviewers I've read have said about themselves.

I'm sure the item could have met my needs, had it offered an up to date Windows 10 driver

I needed a good sound card for my PC and this is it. Install and setup was a piece of cake (it helps that I'm an IT guy), and works like a champ. Integrated nicely into my recording devices and software.

Fantastic sound card with a few impracticalities

This is one of the best sound cards out there today. The sound quality is top notch, and the low profile form factor means its really easy to put this in a little home theater set up. The software is especially good, there are lots of little software tools and presets that really help to make whatever you are doing sound as good as possible. I use these through a set of logitech z560 speakers and really is amazing. The only downside is that there is no automatic headphone changeover, so when you want to listen through your headphones you have to manually go into the software and change the output to the headphones, but not that big of a deal. Additionally there is a little clicking noise whenever you change the output coming off the card. Really not that loud but i have a very silent PC and you do notice it, but nothing bad while you are listening.

Doesn't work with Dell Inspiron 3656!

Because the Dell system board doesn't come with proper power outlet for this. Giving one star for not stating this requirement clearly in the description of the item.
