Great buy for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this tablet for a really good price, when they have a flash sale deal its best to jump on it then. it's a beautiful tablet and with 32 gb of space and an added sd card slot, that makes a lot of space for pics apps etc. the screen is beautiful, it's fast and everything was easy to set up, including wifi. lots of bloatware but I found some of it useful and can be disabled in the settings. love the size because it fits right in my purse. After starting, it will do some updates, make sure its charged for the time it says first, the battery last for days on standby and I think it lasts about 8 hours when using it. To me, it's as good as any Samsung tablet but way cheaper. I'm happy with it and would definitely recommend buying it. also try to get a price match or check out the flash sale items cause I saved $50 doing so.

Budget Priced Quality Tablet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was thoroughly surprised by the ZenPad 7.85". It has a good weight in the hand, not too heavy but not "cheaply" light either. Pleasantly surprised by the screen brightness and color reproduction and the snappy response of the CPU. It is a solid tablet for the price range. The 32GB onboard storage is a nice step up from what other manufacturers offer as their "base" model tablet and 2GB RAM seemed more than adequate for daily use. microSD slot is also nice. Where I was let down and what ultimately led me to return two of these devices is the screen backlighting. It flickers noticeably at several different brightness settings. I was using the tablet primarily to write word documents, blog posts and emails. On a white background the flickering is very noticeable and, for me, an annoyance enough to return the first ZenPad and then the one I exchanged it for as well. So why 4 stars if I returned it? Because I cannot tell if the issue resides with the hardware and ASUS or the Android software and Google. I did a fair amount of research trying to resolve the issue and a number of results showed multiple Android versions causing issues with backlighting. There are some fixes proposed out there for other devices with backlight flickering caused by various Android versions but none of them I tried seemed to fix the problem here. I don't want to fault ASUS for something they cannot control if it's Google's issue and I don't think it's a huge enough problem for someone who wants a social media/media consumption/gaming/email device and doesn't want to drop $400+ for a competitor's tablet that isn't spec'd nearly as well as this one is. Overall I think this is a pretty good offering from ASUS and were it not for the backlight flickering that I couldn't fix no matter what on both devices, I'd have given it 5 stars and happily kept it. Best Buy customer service was understanding and very helpful during both return processes.

Great budget tablet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A solid four stars for this Asus Zenpad 8" with 2GB memory and 32GB of storage. Out of the box you'll get about 24GB, which is plenty enough for me. I haven't tried playing games, but I don't see why this couldn't handle your average pick up and play Android games. Its got a pretty screen and good sounding speakers. The only thing holding me back from giving her five stars would be the battery. It's a very slim budget tablet, therefore, you're not getting super duper battery life here. Keep a charger nearby (you'll need it) or buy a higher end tablet. Overall, I am satisfied with this tablet, but think it should to be more appropriately priced $150 - $175 in my opinion.

Good but could be better
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Stress tested this tablet for a week and had a couple issues. First off I mainly use the tablet for Chrome Cast, movies, and music streaming. The first thing I noticed in that the WiFi adapter is not the best . My old Nexus7 (2013) is way better. Second When paring to a Bluetooth device and steaming YouTube. The device Froze , only to be fixed by a reboot. Second, Chrome Cast Screen Mirroring is Garbage on this device. Third, device has a tad too much bloat ware and doesn't handle multi- tasking too well. Web Browsing is pretty speedy with Chrome but anything else is average...Pros would be the size and picture quality are great...Camera decent, SD Slot a plus, 2 GB RAM , Quad Core...Speakers are loud...Big Con is tablet is hard to hold and they don't make a decent case for this unit yet....All in all I returned this device...

Very nice for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went in planning to buy either an iPad or Samsung Android tablet, both of which were prominently displayed in the store. After checking out these options, and being somewhat deterred by the steep price tags, I went looking for other options. After a few minutes I found the dark and dusty display of other, less expensive tablets, including the Asus. I'd already owned an earlier Google Nexus tablet, which was made by Asus, and this was excellent...until I lost it on a trip. Anyway, good excuse for an upgrade...and so far this gem exceeds my expectations: bright/crisp display, good battery life, speedy and intuitive interface, well made, lightweight, memory expandable (unlike the obscenely expensive iPad). There really is no reason to pay $400+ on a tablet...this one'll do fine.

Premium Display
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have arthritis in my hands and poor eyesight. I needed a tablet that is smaller than my Surface. I found the ZenPad S 8.0 z580c on bestbuy.com and I was surprised to find it at a clearance price of $179. I thought it was a pricing mistake. The 2048 x 1536 display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, 32 GB interior storage, 2 GB RAM plus a MicroSD card slot was unexpected. It comes with lollipop 5.0 out of the box. It's light as a feather and well made. Battery has lasted all day on hundred percent brightness. I've used it now for a month and I still can't believe I found a premium device without having to pay a premium price. My only negative comment is that the Asus case made for it is temporarily out of stock.

good tablet for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was bought to replace my broken ME572c. Generally, I am appreciated for the performance and ample of NAND. Screen looks good, and it looks a little bigger than ME with 9:16 videos, but 4:3 looks better on websites (in portrait mode). Speaker is on the front and it's rather loud and rich with mid-low, but ME is a bit louder. It got 14,000 in Quadrant while ME got 18,000. This is a good tablet for the price and it's highly recommended if you're in budget.

Good overall tablet - some maintenance required
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.MUST: After downloading Asus updates, you are able to DISABLE all Asus apps. I would recommend disabling nearly ALL of them - it's safe to do so and many are unnecessarily redundant. It's helped my tablet speed up significantly. POSITIVEs: Great screen for VIDEOS; plays graphics intensive GAMES well; premium-like DESIGN feels good; BATTERY life is good for me, usually all day (9+ hours on-screen time) NEGATIVEs: speakers can be a bit quiet; frequently clear apps from multitasking to keep it snappy; sometimes screen-on/off double-tapping doesn't work immediately; probably won't see BIG updates (marshmallow :( )

For the price it's hard to complain
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Grabbed it on sale for $150. As a zenfone 2 user I knew what I was getting into when it comes to the skin. I spent 5 minutes replacing the launcher and disabling all the apps it would let me. The ui is relatively snappy but, not 100% smooth. The 4:3 aspect ratio makes browsing the web so much more enjoyable than on my old 7" samsung tablet or my phone. Videos are cropped but, I have a chromecast that I can cast to my tv so the tradeoff is worth it for the overall better experience on everything else. The screen is somewhat dim on autobrightness but, I don't mind adjusting manually as needed. My only major complaint is that they cheaped out and didn't put a 5ghz wlan chip in the device. I mean what would it have cost an extra 30 cents? I want to stream to my new 2015 chromecast without stutter and 5ghz would have completely eliminated that. Also it's kinda shady on how asus website they list it in the specs and then just have an asterisk and in the fine print says *varies by sku. So I guess what I would say is if like me you have a smaller 7" tablet that is somewhat old and slow and want a cheap upgrade that is high quality and are ok with only connecting toa 2.4ghz network then this is the best you are going to do for the price.

Great Tablet - weak sound
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace a Samsung 3 and so far I am very pleased. The screen is vivid and responsive and great for watching a movie. My big issue is that it has weak audio. Asus advertises Cinematic Audio. Not even close. I would say it is on par with my Samsung for volume. My wife has budget Windows Phone this is about 2 1/2 times as loud but tinny. I was really hoping for something better. I need to wear headphones or connect a blue tooth speaker for sound I can hear. Perhaps when Asus releases the Audio cover I will give it a try. Photos taken with the tablet are excellent. Very vivid and detailed.
