I wanted to see this film so bad back in 2007 but they kind of had it on limited release in theaters where I live. But I finally got to see "Atonement" when I picked it up on DVD in 2008 and I wasn't disappointed by it at all. For the time period that I didn't get to see "Atonement" until I got to pick up a copy, the film was probably being hyped up in my head as being one of the greatest films in 2007. So, going into watching it I probably had high expectations and let me say that this movie didn't disappoint me even then. Anyways, getting back to the movie itself, "Atonement" was a really good film and it has an amazing story based of the book by Ian McEwan. The camera work/cinematography was astounding and Director, Joe Wright ("Pride & Prejudice (2005)) did a great job with this film. The acting in the movie was brilliant and Keira Knightley and James McAvoy are perfect for each other. Overall, "Atonement" was a great great film and I highly recommend it to anyone. p.s. I really hope that it comes out on Blu-ray soon. =) ...along with "Pride & Prejudice (2005)."

I am not sure why this movie did not get more recegnition when it was released. I had not even heard about it until it came out on DVD. This is definitely a movie to add to your collection. If you love sad love stories, this is the movie for you. I have never read the book, but judging by the quality of the movie it has done the book a service. The story is sweeping, and involving. You will feel sad when the characters do, and so forth. The acting is top notch, especially from James McAvoy and Keira Knightley. It is the best acting that I have seen from him, and she plays her role perfectly. The supporting cast is memorable as well. The camera pans are breathtaking at instances, and deliver a sense of scale. If you want a move that tugs at your heart buy Atonement.

Atonement is a Surprisingly Great Movie

Atonement was a movie I watched by mistake. As it turns out, I really loved this movie. The plot deals with a young girl who witnesses her sister in a compromising situation with her boyfriend. This girl likes her sister's boyfriend, so she lies about him and gets him arrested. It is told through flashbacks at times, so that part can be confusing. Other than that, the storytelling is pretty good. The film goes on to tell what happens to all involved, and how the young girl wants to make up for what she's done. Aside from the great acting, this film has beautiful cinematography.

This is an EXCELLENT movie. I never got a chance to see it in theaters, so I just went ahead and bought the DVD, and I am definitely not disappointed in my purchase. The storyline is excellent, and I think it stays pretty well with Ian McEwan's book. The acting is what really makes this movie great. The young girl that plays Briony has great talent, and Keira Knightly and James McAvoy are of course great in roles such as these. A definite must-see, and I would recommend as a buy also.
