Reviews were good, and support is 7 days a week, out of Washington State. The copter, case, packaging and accessories are all top notch; very professional. Copter is very stable. Photos are great. Control and Star Link app work great. Easier to fly than I expected. Orange color is easy to see in the sky. Very well thought out and executed.

I had never flown a drone before and I was eager to get started. I have a video business and without being able to offer the kind of video footage that a good drone can provide, I was falling behind others who could offer it. With that in mind, I had done some research and decided that I wanted to go look at the DJI as it seemed to be a good place to start based on reviews. I really didn’t extend my research much because when I got to Best Buy where I had intended to purchase my drone, for the first time I saw the Autel X-Star Premium and I was intrigued immediately, I guess initially because of its color. Right there in the store I looked up the drone online and began reading about it. I was intrigued enough about what I read that I decided to put off purchasing the DJI and go home and do more research. So for several hours that afternoon I read about it, watched all kinds of You Tube videos, and had to really look to find anyone saying anything bad about this drone. The only thing I could find had to do with this drone not having crash detection capability. But even those that talked about that said the way they flew the drone, it was a non-issue. This drone had most all of the capabilities of the twice priced DJI and for me that was huge. So, the next day I went back to Best Buy and purchased the Autel X-Star Premium. I’ve had it about 4 months now and I have to say, I am having a blast with this drone. This thing is so easy to learn to fly. The controls are very intuitive, and just getting it started by holding a button down makes flying this thing so easy. I did purchase a couple extra batteries, that, are not cheap but it extends my flying time to about an hour a mission. Some of the camera options and controls were a little confusing at first but over time, I have gotten pretty good and making adjustments to suit my needs during my flights. There are several different types of flying modes, all of which are cool. I really do like the “waypoint” feature that allows you to go onto a map and pick points on the map that you want the drone to fly to at whatever altitude you like and then just hit go and the drone will fly the mission. You can set the drone up to follow you if you are doing something like climbing a hill or riding a dirt bike down a trail and you want to video yourself. Another cool feature allows you to pick a point on the map and the drone will circle that point at your desired altitude and radius. This is a great feature when it comes to shooting property. The features on this drone are impressive at this price point and I absolutely love flying it. When it comes to customer service, I don’t know how the customer service is with the other drone manufactures, all I can refer to is what I read online that the service from DJI owners is lacking. What I can say is, I’ve had 2 different occasions that I asked questions and I was very impressed in how quickly I got the answers I needed. But to be completely honest, there are so many YouTube videos out there that answer almost every question I had, I really didn’t need customer service all that much. This drone is so cool to fly and the 4K images I have captured are amazing. I can’t believe how steady the images are and from a newbie that is just learning to fly this thing that is so important to me. I’ve already used video footage in a couple different videos I’ve done and the response was very positive. I guess the most impressive thing about this drone is it was half the price of the DJI that I was going to buy. All in all, I am above satisfied with this drone purchase. I have bought several accessories like the blade protectors and also a different camera gimbal cover because the one that comes with the drone is kinda of awkward to put on. Oh and another thing, this drone comes complete in a case that is awesome. They even provided extra slots for additional batteries. I even took this drone on a trip on an airplane and the whole thing fit in the overhead without any issues. I would suggest that if you decide to do that that you check with your airline first as rules about transporting lithium batteries vary across airlines. The only negative thing about my whole flying experience with this drone has to do with loosing connection more than I would like. But, I live in Missouri and I fly this thing in a lot of heavily wooded areas so I think that has more to do with it than anything. My maximum range without having connections issues seems to be around the half mile distance. I did test that once and flew the drone above the 400 foot ceiling to see if I could maintain connection and that seemed to help but I want to stay within the tolerances that the FAA allow and that ceiling is 400 feet. I imagine if you fly this thing in a more open area, you will have better results. I know they sell range extenders and I may invest in those at some point but for now what I use the drone for, its really not an issue. Lastly, Speaking of the FAA, you will need to register this thing and do yourself a favor and become familiar with the regulations that are required when operating this drone. You are after all operating in airspace and there are rules about where you can fly this thing safely. The FAA offers an opportunity to get an operators license or pilots license for flying drones. Its referred to as a 107. This license allows you to fly the drone for profit. Its not required but learning how to be a responsible hobbyist or for-profit operator is important to keeping yourself and the public you fly around safe. Hope this review helped, I am so happy I purchased this thing and I am so enjoying learning how to be a proficient drone pilot.

I truly believe that the Autell X-Star Premium is the best buy out there at the moment. The aircraft and every thing which comes with it is very well made and engineered. The camera is good. I have to qualify that statement a bit. I have been a professional photographer for 45 years. I have had in my hands some of the world's finest optics therefore a bit tainted in my views. But considering the replacement for that camera and gimbal is a mere 350 or some odd dollars, my word, this camera is great and will amaze you with its clarity and resolution. The bird flys well and its remote control unit is second to none. I believe it's the best out there as for as ergonomics and information given by the Remote Control alone. Again, when you pick it up, you can tell it's well made. Now my criticism of this drone has to do with the promise of something the parent company not provided and that is a replacement camera which has a much larger sensor and resolution. But in their defense, the whole industry took a big hit when the F.A.A. came out with its rulings. These folks are taking on the Giant in the Industry, DJI, with all their heart and might. I might segway into their customer service is second to none. You get to talk to a real person with real experience who has a genuine desire to get you going again. Back to criticisms; The magnetic interference being so sensitive drives me crazy. This may be a must because of physics or what ever but its annoying. Having said that, I have never lost connections either with control or video feed and I have had mine 6k' away and all was fine. It's a great drone and a great company. Are there better drones? Yes but not for that price. What you get for the money is outstanding.

As a photographer I am critical of 'so called' cameras. The camera on this quad does a very good job. The still and movie shots are good enough to sell to the client. As far as the flying, this unit is easy to fly once you get familiar with the controls. The only thing that would make it better would be a little more range.

In a world where DJI rules the sky Autel Robotics is your easy to get along with and solid equipment manufacturer. The drone looks and feels just like the phantom series. But its orange which is awesome, The remote is amazing, they have a promotion going till march where they will pay you what it cost to pass your 107 test, and they are all based in America. Ive called them on multiple occasions and they just pick up the phone like they have been waiting on me the whole day. Amazing. I love this product. I bought 3 drones and this is the one i kept.

Love everything about this drone. The price point, the features you get for that price and the look of it. An all-orange drone is so much easier to locate up in the sky as opposed to white. Back to the features: you get Waypoints/Follow Me/Orbit. The customer service is 24x7x365 US based. Fantastic all-around. IF you have an issue it will be resolved quickly. Can't say enough about this company and this drone. Hoping they become a big player and competitor to DJI. GO WITH THIS DRONE!

I looked a lot of other drones and settled on this one. It received some of the best reviews over multiple sites. I like it one because it handles well. It starts on a beginner level which gives you the feel of handling it. It allows for you to move passed that to more advanced flying. It comes with a remote that is better than just using your phone. The X-Star Premium I purchased is orange so it stands out and I can see it against the white sky. It has features that really stand out for the midrange drone like follow me and orbit.

I had been researching drones for the better part of year. The first purchase candidate was the DJI Phantom-4. However, on a visit to a Best Buy store, I saw the X-Star Premium. At first the price is what caught my attention. Before Christmas, it was $300 less than the DJI. Additionally, it is made in America which is a plus. The thing that really sold me were the comments on the quality of the Technical Support and the rapidity with which issues are addressed and closed. I bought the X-Star for my small business. Today was the first day I got to fly it. It is incredibly easy to control. It will take some adjustment to fly the aircraft using the FPV view; however, i am sure i time it will be second nature. Generally the controller is intuitive and easy to operate. I really like the Go Home and Takeoff/Land functions. Using my cell phone (Samsung Galaxy S-5) for the video display can be a challenging as the display is a little small. I will investigate using an Android tablet or a Kindle for that purpose. The quality of the video and photos is more than acceptable. It was a total bonus to get the semi-rigid carry case with it. The only questionable issue in my mind is putting the serial number on the packaging instead of on the aircraft somewhere. I cut that portion of the package off and now keep it in the carry case. All in all,I am VERY satisfied with this system and I am eager to fly it more and farther.

Great Drone. Helpful tips to know

This is a great drone and one I had to have after I saw someone flying it at the beach. I was blown away at how far and smoothly it flew. I came home and researched many drones and decided the Autel Robotics - X-Star Premium Quadcopter was the one for me. The cost was around $800.00 and many others I looked at were much more expensive with similar specs. I'm going to share a few helpful tips that I didn't know that may help others using this drone: 1. Make sure you change the settings from Metric to Feet. I was looking on how to do this. To do this, change your settings to "Imperial” which will change everything to feet. 2. Sign up with and register your Drone with Autel. This will allow them to keep a log of your flights in case you have an accident. They will be able to see if your drone malfunctioned and provide support if you contact them. I have even read that they replaced some drones for free after reviewing these logs. 3 Change your video capture settings from 4K to 1080P if you have a slow computer. The 4K setting is great but when I went to look at it on my computer it was very jerky. I contacted Autel and they recommenced that I change it to a lower setting because most computers cannot handle the 4K playback. I have mine set to 1080P at 60 frames per sec and it looks and plays great. 4. Change your video settings from MOV to MP4. The MOV setting is the default and I find that MP4 works and plays so much better on my computer. 5. Please note that your videos DO NOT record sound only video. If you want sound you will have to hook up some audio source to your videos. Perhaps in post-production. 6. One thing that is very disheartening is place to fly with your drone. Make sure you are nowhere near an airport. The law says you cannot fly within 5 miles of an airport and if you live in the DC area you cannot fly within 20 miles of DC. Lots of parks and towns have no fly zones as well. This can be very discouraging so make sure you have you know your area before you buy a drone and realize you can't fly it anywhere. 7. Always check your location twice before you fly your drone near trees. I learned this first hand when I got pretty good at flying my drone and wanted to take a chance and maneuver though some trees in front of me. I saw a big tree in front of me and I cleared it with no problem, however I didn't see the 2nd tree that was hidden behind the 1st tree and crashed my drone into it when I started my climb. I was totally shocked when my drone fell down. If I had checked my location better I would have noticed there were more trees to clear. Pilot error for sure and lesson learned. 8. Autel customer service is really good. I called them and the line was busy and I was put in a que. After around 3 min a recording came on and asked me to leave my number and question. Within 30 mins after I hung up they called me back. Very nice. 9. With this drone you will have to register it with the FAA. The cost is $5.00 for three years. Please do it to save yourself a big fine if the cops stop you. Make sure you keep your FAA id number with you at all times in case you get stopped. I hope some of these tips will help others who may be interested in flying drones. I really love it and its a great stress buster.

This is by far the easiest drone to fly,a five year old could fly it. Don’t forget the controller,it also is the simplest intuitive controls for flight. Start rotors button, take off and land button how can that get any better. Oh the camera, simply great! If you have been thinking about buying one, don’t hesitate to buy this one. And support from the manufacturer is second to none, download the app and watch the videos on the XStar Premium and visit there web site and you’ll order one and you won’t be disappointed.

All I can say about the X-star Premium Drone is WOW! I'm VERY impressed! I'm a nOOb with drones and this is my first RC toy. Set-up was very easy and I can only encourage anyone to read all the documentation, and view YouTube videos explaining functions and details of the Drone, remote, batteries, and charger. I did purchase two extra batteries, additional charger, and prop guards. Although the Drone doesn't fit in the splash proof case with the prop guards on, it only takes a few minutes to remove two screws holding each one. I would rather spend the time with pre-flight and post-flight to make sure everything is checked, which also gives me time to think in case I forget something. I have taken two flights so far with my new toy. Weather here was bitterly cold, but the sun was shining. Until I get more familiar with inputs and the like, I will leave my remote in "Beginner Mode." In "Beginner Mode", the Drone will only fly to an altitude of 98 feet and will only go so far from you. I have hooked up my iPad, but also used my iPhone. I definitely recommend using a tablet with the Star Link App, as it is much easier to see all the functions. The "Hold To Take Off/Land" option, The "Hold To Start Go Home" features are very nice. Just make sure to set the altitude high enough before taking off, in order to ensure you clear any obstacles when coming back to your take off point. The 4K mode for video is strikingly crisp and clear. I filmed two videos, one using 4K and the other using 1080P. The difference in quality is quite obvious, therefore, I will only use 4K. It's kind of like watching movies in Blu-Ray. Once you see Blu-Ray, you will never want to watch a movie in any other format. I registered my drone with the FAA and also with Autel. Cost to register with the FAA is a mere $5.00. This gives you a number which you can affix to your drone, or any other RC toy that flies in the air. Your registration is good for 3 years and then you will have to renew. I recommend doing this prior to any maiden voyage you take. Why risk being fined thousands of dollars? Also, Autel is reimbursing anyone who takes and passes their sUAS Part 107 test before March of 2017. The cost is $150.00 and I figured, I might as well study and get my license. Why not? Then I can make some side money for aerial photos and videos! Additionally, I have contacted Technical Support and have always been able to speak with someone in a reasonable amount of time, to answer any technical questions I had. I have also had a good experience with Technical Support via email. I like the fact that this company is in the United States! That was another reason and probably the most important in why I chose Autel Robotics when shopping different makes and models. Not to mention, all the reviews in regards to Autel were what persuaded me more in my purchase of their drone. Hands down, I have not been disappointed! In conclusion, I would recommend purchasing this Drone. The camera, remote, intelligent Li-Po battery, hard splash proof case, positive reviews, and excellent customer support are all worth serious consideration with your new Drone purchase. I will try to add some more information with this review in the future once I become more acclimated with my new Drone!

Being winter I have only flown this 3 times because of the temps. So far for a Drone NOOB it was easier then the $50 drone I have tried before. It was very easy to control and performed GREAT. XSTAR takeoff and land button is the way to go. Camera pics & videos looked AWESOME the first 2 flights & then I took the protective film off for the 3rd flight. I never pushed the battery to the limit but they seem like they will last the 25 minutes as stated, I think I flew about 18/19 and it never alerted to being low / 25% when I finished flying. I will say fly in the open areas like a ball field or park till you get used to it. My 1st flight was in a semi open yard at the cabin and I bumped a few branches with a pilot error but the XSTAR stayed UP!!!

I didn't know what to expect when I purchased- quite honestly, I knew I wanted a drone, but didn't want to spend over 1k, but wanted good quality. After reading some reviews and looking at the overall design, I chose this little guy- I love it . Started off in beginner mode to learn the drone and protect my investment, and I must say, ease of use, the Starlink app, and general coolness of this is awesome. I have had. I issues at all- save yourself some time and buy the extra battery in the beginning because when you're learning and having fun, that 20-25 minutes goes very fast.

Spent a lot of time online the past 6 months comparing all the major brands for drones. Based on my needs and the features I wanted, I bought the Autel based on numerous reviews and feedback. Even talked with Autel support, which gave me a lot of pre sales info... their competitors did not provide the same support. Came down to the Autel XSP and DJI Mavic. Clincher came down to support and warranty feedback. Got the drone home, unpacked, read the instructions and charged the battery overnight. Next day, got the drone up and running with zero issues. I've now flown the drone for 6 full hours with no issues. This was the easiest drone to set up and fly ever. The camera and gimbal are superb and provide top notch video and photos. The case it came with is a nice touch and should hold up to light travel. If this is your first mid level drone, I would highly recommend the Autel XSP. Since you are supposed to fly this within line of sight, features like obstacle avoidance are an added cost. Use the money you save on extra batteries and filters for your camera! Don't forget to register your drone and follow local rules! Otherwise have fun!

Flew less expensive drones to learn my way. Ends up this drone was easier to fly than the learner quads. GPS assist makes this thing dummy proof. Have flown 2 miles away in the country with insane pics and 4k video. Phantom? Please.... Had them and they are great but Autel has pulled ahead. Nice to be able to see the drone hundreds of feet above unlike the Phantoms that just disappear into the cloud background. Comes with a killer case that Phantom does not. I could go on but I'm tired and need my beauty rest.

Bought this drone for some of the standard features it came with having dedicated buttons on the remote such as; return to home, take-off/land, start/stop rotors. I also read of fly aways with phantom and couldn't find any on the autel, which I thought was good. Does not require any updates once you open it, they have awesome customer service which I read about, and the reviews are true. I would high recommend this to anyone considering their first drone, breeze to fly, great quality.

I had previously like most people bought a cheap ($100.00) drone and it was cheap made, hard to fly and could crash any second. However, I was torn between the DJI and Autel. I went out on a limb and Im glad I did... This drone is so easy to fly, you can leave it hovering and go in and get a drink, when you come back it will still be in the same spot! I love the clarity of the camera as well as the Bright Orange color, which is so easy to see and navigate, unlike other brands..
