Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Beoplay Portal's sound quality and comfort, frequently citing its lightweight design. However, negative feedback centers on the high price point, inconsistent battery life, and occasional connectivity issues. Some users also noted that the volume could be improved and that the bass response might not satisfy all listeners. The active noise cancellation feature received mixed reviews, with some finding it effective while others felt it could be better.

Love these headphones for playing online games. Voice isolation features are great when there is background noise. Noise cancellation is great too.

Good Product, But Not for the Price

Let me first start off by saying that the product does feel nice, comfortable, and has decent ANC. Those reasons are why I didn’t give it 1 star. But, at the time of writing the price is $500, and this in no way warrants that. They’re supposedly sold for that much because of their Dolby Atmos & Xbox Support functionality, but the former doesn’t come close to justifying the price. While pairing them with the Xbox is very quick and easy, you do have to re-pair them every time as the Xbox does not treat them like a controller and saves it’s connection information. Once connected you have to download and activate the Dolby Atmos app, and enable an audio profile. Then you have to go into your system setting and make sure your headset is changed to Dolby Atmos for Headsets. For games, I tested it out on Immortals: Fenyx Rising as this is one of the demos found on the Dolby Atmos Windows App. While playing with Dolby Atmos “Game Mode” on and Off, I could not find any noticeable difference between these and any other ANC headphones besides that when Game Mode is turned off there seemed to be more “crackling” in the headset even though I play less than 4 feet from my Xbox. Compared to the HX that were released at the same time as these, the portals gain Xbox compatibility while not coming with the same carrying case, meaning they aren’t nearly as suitable for travel. Save yourself some time and money and look elsewhere. For anyone wondering, before using these on my Xbox I did make sure to update them using the Mobile app.

These are the best sounding gaming headphones that are not just gaming headphones. They completely replaced my music listening headphones, these are a complete product. The people complaining about the price. The price is completely justified by the build quality, the sound and the fact that these are so reliable. I have never had a issue pairing or keeping a connection. Please keep these as a consideration in your next Xbox headset purchase.

Tech is cool and all; they’re extremely lightweight and comfortable. My only gripe would be that for $500 the sound isn’t amazing compared to the recently released Xbox headset; the cheaper $100 headset actually blows these away, to me. I’ll be returning these purely based on for $500 I wanted to be blown away but maybe that’s just me? The idea was I’d return the Xbox headset figuring these would be a major sound quality step up — they weren’t.

Overall, these are very good, but they do have a couple of issues. First, they don't offer dual audio playback that even the $99 wireless xbox headset does. Meaning, you can't have your phone and xbox connected at the same time. so if i get a call on my phone i can't answer while gaming. this is a small problem, but a bit annoying for a headset of this caliber. the bigger problem is audio cutouts/crackling if you are "too far away". By too far away, i mean 15+ feet. I have issues where this occurs and the only way to fix it is turning them off and back on. Other than those, the audio is superb and they are fantastic for both gaming and music playback.

When comparing this unit in quality and functionally at its price point compared to other gaming headsets this product falls flat on its face. For B&O this is sadly not even worth it even at the heavily discount price I received. It also doesn’t offer concurrent audio sources like much more cost effective video game headsets. The design was really nice though!

The sound stage is spacious. The separation between game, voice, and Sp0t1fy in the background is amazing. These are the clearest and cleanest headphones I have ever heard in a gaming environment. They work w/ the Xbox wireless protocol flawlessly. I've had Raz3r and LucidS0und sets and both had connection and range issues, dropouts, occasional digitized sound and compression issues. And I'm a casual gamer, but have never had an issue with battery life.

Beautiful and sleek and functionality is attempted but not fully reached has some connection issues especially to Xbox which couldn’t be expressed more that they are compatible but could have fooled me.. sound quality is on the higher end but for $500 not what’s expected. Overall slightly disappointed in what seems to be a well designed and and well crafted pair of over the ear headphones.

Crackling noise with Xbox Series X

When connected to Xbox Series X, there is a crackling noise, which comes and goes. I watched a movie and the first 20 min, there was no crackling noise and then it came, whereas I did not change my position on the couch 7 feet away. By crackling noise, I mean that parts of some words completely disappear. It actually gives a headache. I did not finish the movie with this headset and switched back to my wired Bose headset. I performed multiple resets and with no luck. Called Bang&Olufsen tech support and they told me that there is nothing else I can do that I have not done already. Crackling noise does not go away or diminish even when being within 1 foot from the Xbox. The noise intensifies as you move away from the Xbox. Bang&Olufsen promised to e-mail me a ticket number, but they never did. I returned it back to Best Buy the next day and bought Xbox Wireless Headset for $99. It does not have any crackling noise which rules out that it is a problem with my Xbox. The sound quality of this $500 headset is amazing. It works flawlessly when connected to PC via USB cable.

If you are looking to splurge and consider yourself a serious gamer/music lover. I doubt these will let you down. The mic isnt the best if i had to say something bad. But the mic is okay I've been told i sound like a phone call in the party chat. But the sound is amazing. Probably one of the best if not the best sounding headsets out at the moment. The build quality seems strong as well.

Hello, I don’t write reviews for products, however, I felt compelled to today. The headphones are well built. And that is about the best feature. I work from home and I was looking for a headset I can use with everything. I need to have a good reliable bluetooth connection for work and instead I received dropped call and disconnection. As for the sound it felt like it was missing something. The sound did not fell complete for a $500 set. I waited to buy and when I finally did the set was on sale for $345. I returned the set the same day I bought them. I am truly disappointed in a product I waited so long for. I do not recommend the headphones unless you are purchasing the set for style points. A true let down.

Good for Music, Terrible Sound for Gaming

Ive been waiting for a audiophile headphone like this to come to market for years. I quickly returned the Xbox Wireless Headset after losing patience trying to find the right EQ, they just didn’t compare to my HyperX Cloud Alpha’s. Then the B&O Portals are released checking all the boxes. Once they arrived, I was quickly able to get them hooked up to my mobile device and Xbox Series X, really seamless experience, so I’ll give them that. Music sounded amazing through my BT connection, had high hopes for their intended purpose, gaming. However, once getting them paired (Atmos on) they sound incredibly dim, thin and comparable to a $75 headset. I’ve read that there’s completely different tuning from the BT and Xbox connection that’s “optimized” for gaming. The lossless and compression-less connection to the Xbox should blow BT out of the water, but it doesn’t. Feels like this was an ANC headphone they decided to turn into a “gaming” headset.

Love the noise cancelling, sound quality is great, the virtual mic works, pairing xbox was easy, before finishing phone app set up to see different profiles and noise cancelling options, finishing set up and phone app was difficult, when set up finally started was informed the website was down on the app, and an apology email after set up, this setup is the only reason for average ease of use, after app setup it is very good

    Gaming/Lifestyle Fusion Headset

If your not an audiophile who likes to game this headset is likely not for you. For those of you that want great mid-fi lifestyle headset and gaming headset in one this is a great option. The headset offers B&0's signature sound, which is quite neutral and accurate; however, you have full control over the EQ, which allows you adjust to your liking or the content your using for music gaming etc. For music there is good instrument separation great mids and a good soundstage (For a closed back headphone at this price point). Now for gaming and movies there is free dolby atmos support w/ the app on Xbox and the base can be adjust rather high to give you cinematic feel when it comes to explosions base etc. Situational awareness due the soundstage and 3d audio imaging, in Insurgency Sandstrom one can easily pick out footsteps and accurately figure out where they are coming from incoming fire etc. (Now to some gaming centric have footstep focus etc. this doesn't have gimmiks, like that focusing more high quality audio and soundstage). Also the build quality is second to none in "gaming" market.

Nice sound as always from B&O. Is it worth $500?? Only you can decide that! Don’t make a decision based on reviews, try it for yourself…maybe find where they have them and give them a try. Seamless connection to the Xbox Series X. I’ll keep mine.
