Bates Motel is the next take on the Alfred Hitchcock famous classic film Psycho. What set this apart from the bad countless movies except the groundbreaking original is that it focuses on Norman and his Mother relationship as he is going down that path that makes him into the adult Norman Bates in 1st Psycho movie (played so well by Anthony Perkins).... Freddie Highmore (August Rush, Toast) is the teen Norman Bates who is showing sighs of mental breakdown because he having blackouts that he has no memories of his actions. His Mother is aware of his blackouts, and what he capable of when having one. She sets out to shield him and protect him. Unfortunately she is a women who is unstable with a long history of abuse and traumatic occurrences in her own life. She also a magnet for the wrong people and wrong things. Which just causes Norman abnormal behaviors to get worse. The series is solid in story telling it's cohesive with Alfred Hitchcock vision and is extremely well acted by Vera Famgia and Freddie Highmore The first season was one of the best debut of a Television series in tv history. With both star Freddie and Vera getting praise and Vera a Emmy Nomination for best actress in a Television series. The second season had a hard act to follow. It manages to be even better going deeper into the life of this tragic mother and son...introducing new plot twists . The second season we see Norman trying to make sense of his actions and trying to exert his will more often while pulling apart from his controlling mother with deadly results. If you like dysfunctional family shows (or movies like Donnie Darko, Carrie, Breaking Bad, Nurse Jackie) you will like this series

BATES MOTEL SEASON 2 (2014) immediately picks up from the freshman Season 1 finale of Miss Watson's murder with her funeral in the season-opener, then jumps forward 4 months later to the beginning of summer, when all of Season 2 takes place. Business is booming at the Bates Motel, as Norma Bates (brilliantly brought to life by Vera Farmiga, who hopefully gets her overdue Emmy that she should have won for Season 1!) is gleefully bouncing around running her little roadside motel and living the good life with her #1 son Norman (superbly essayed by young phenom Freddie Highmore, more on him later) and her estranged son Dylan (played with understated excellence by Max Thierot). Also on board is Emma DeCody (winningly played by the refreshing Olivia Cooke), who helps Norma and Norman run the motel, and Sheriff Alex Romero (exquisitely performed by Nestor Carbonell), who is trying to keep peace in the not-so-sleepy town of White Pine Bay, Oregon. These 5 major characters return from Season 1 and continue to help shape this amazing series!

i love origin stories and the bates motel does not disappoint when it comes to telling the origin of everyone's favorite psycho Norman bates as his relationship with his mother becomes even more co-dependent and disturbing to say the least. Norman's psyche becomes more erratic as his body count begin to rise with last seasons cliffhanger. i wont spoil to much but if your a die hard fan of Alfred Hitchcock psycho or just a casual supporter of the series you will find a lot to love with this season. bad day geists and ghouls.

I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys suspense and lots of twists and turns in the story line. If you saw season 1, you know that this isn't a boring town. This season will keep you on your toes, with plot twists and detours off the main story (I think Hitchcock was famous for that). I like the quick pace of the show, there is always something new thrown into the frenzy, just to make it interesting. You don't really have a chance to get bored. I was actually sorry it wasn't longer.

I have yet to watch Psycho, which Bates Motel is the prequel to, but if Anthony Perkins is anything like Freddie Highmore, who portrays the teenage Norman Bates, I will definitely add it to my growing list of movie classics to check out. Both Freddie and Vera Farmiga who plays Norman's mother Norma give amazing performances. Freddie can easily give the dead stare that makes you think he really is crazy.

I've been a big fan of Bate's Motel from the very beginning, but this season even tops season 1. Norman reaches crazy status, while everyone else in his life tries to figure out how to deal with him. Season 2 has action, family secrets and just plain craziness. The portrayal of Norman Bates is dead on and on course to becoming the Norman Bates we all know in PSYCHO! Definitely recommend

The relationship to Psycho is perfect!! The theme, acting & suspenseful story are all very well done. Each episode will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting to watch more. "Vera Farmiga" plays the best paradisiacal mother role. This is my preferred way to watch the TV Episodes without interruption.

watched the first season with little skepticism as I love the original movie, and I loved the show, great performances by the leading actors. now this second season keeps building upon the first one, and little by little we see more of the Norman Bates from the original book/movie.

Have really loved the show and can not wait until it comes on again. This was a good buy for season 2 and now waiting for season 3 to get a good deal. If you like the show you will like the DVD's or what every format you get.

This season starts out painfully slow but builds up to a great fourth quarter. If season 1 was the beginning of a great story than I'd consider this as the middle leading to great things!

Norman returns in season 2 just as creepy and weird as season 1. The people of power in the town come to light and you see their motives. This season is not short on action or suspense.

Not the best show on tv, but the performances are some of the best. Although some of the side stories can be a bit silly, it's still better than I ever could have imagined a Psycho television show. I'd still pick Hannibal over Bates Motel, but this one is also fun.

This show is just a little creepy but it makes you keep watching. I'm not sure if its the shock value of it or what but they have completely redefined the psycho story line.

I love all the acting and the drama in this tv show. I think the first season was the best but this season was great as well. It's a drama tv show but still has humor to it.
