Got this at Best Buy just recently.
I am about 25% of the way through this game so far and I can't tell you how good this game really is. The voice actors are great (especially the Joker). Its fun to watch even if you are not playing. It has lots of small things done right, and it makes it feel like they didn't just piece something together.
Difficulty is appropriate. Teen rating is appropriate for the game so I don't have to worry about keeping the kids out quite as much.
I've played a LOT of games so it is saying a lot when I say it is my favorite action game to date for the xbox 360. It is not nearly as difficult as Ninja Gaiden 2 but is plenty difficult for the hardcore gamer. Unless you just hate Batman, get this game!

Pros: This game catches you in right off the bat. It is very easy to get the controls down. I like how you get different gadgets as you go through the game. It makes it easier to remember which gadget is which button. The bad guys in the game are very simple right off the bat and I was worried that they would not get any tougher, but they do by adding various weapons. The bosses are set at a good difficulty and are tough enough that they could take a couple times to beat, but easy enough that you are not spending too much time trying to beat one boss
The only Cons are that it is $60 which is a con for every new Xbox 360 game. Also, the game is so in-depth that I do not see myself playing the game again.

Very good action game, with RPG elements.
Arkham Asylum has a very smooth combat system, allowing combos on single enemies, which is standard, but after an enemy is knocked down or subdued, you're allowed to continue the combo by flipping, jumping, or turning around to immediately hit another enemiy, and moves are varied so combat never gets tiring, and always entertains with different situations, and later on you can often incorporate some of the Dark Knights gadgets into hand to hand combat.
When you can't risk, or prefer a stealthier combat you can climb up to gargoyles placed at the top of many of the rooms you're in to pick off enemies one by one. Enemies react differently in each situation, and have a fear level to determine their actions as well. If an enemy is terrified, he'll be more likely to back into a corner to be able to see eveerything, and less likely to follow his comrades to investigate a downed comrade.
There are also many puzzles to solve from the Riddler, hidden around the entire island, with various clues and hints to show you where they are.
The game also has an XP system, allowing you to get XP from defeated enemies and solved riddles to upgrade your combat abilities and gadgets. You should be able to upgrade all the gadgets towards the end of the game, and some of them are really fun, such as the explosive gel you can use to knock walls over to subdue enemies or make them fall through holes in the floor.
There are also many extras to find such as patient interview tapes and biography info, as well as character trophies to view character models. Throughout the game you also unlock challenges that you can access from the main menu, such as fighting enemies without getting hit and trying to get the highest possible combo, or trying to take out a roomful of enemies which you need to take out in certain ways. After each challenge you complete you get a rating and a score, the score is posted to High Score board so you can compete for the highest rating.
Overall Arkham Asylum is a great game, but I didn't have much enthusiasm for a second playthrough, though the achievements and finding everything would be a good reason, because there's plenty to find and achievements for different difficultys.
I'd definitely recommend this game to anyone that enjoys a good action game, with slight RPG elements and puzzles to solve anyone can find something to enjoy in this game.

Let me start by saying the graphics and the voices of the characters are great. I’m almost half way though the game and the game play is very solid. The controls are easy to pick up, learning to fight, block and counter takes no time. The x-ray vision is great it really help you pick out and pinpointing the enemies. There is one part of the game that had me thinking my Xbox was going on the blink but it was part of the game so stay cool. The game map is pretty huge but you’ll be able to find your way with no problem of you could pull up the map. There is also the combat challenge but I haven’t started them yet. There is no online but is not the end of the world.

This is by far one of the best games I've played in a long time after Gears of War 2 and Bioshock. The graphics are insane! It's like watching a movie. Plus the story and the acting is awesome. If you didn't know, the voices are actually the voices from Batman: The Animated Series which I really dug. I haven't beat the game yet so I can't really comment on the length. The unlockables, achievements and the upgrades are all fun to do. I thought the fighting would get repeatitive, but it's actually quite fun if you string the combos together. Overall, this is how a Dark Knight game should be: dark, sinister, and action packed.

If you're a fan of Batman whether comics or movies you'll love this game. You feel like The Dark Knight himself hanging and swinging from Gargoyles, searching for clues with your high tech gadgets to your next destination and using your batarangs to fight your enemies.Sometimes the 360 degree camera can get in the way of you looking for clues but that's a minor problem. Some of the boss fights are not that challenging. It may take you a couple of times before you get the pattern down for the boss fights. There is no multiplayer, but it has a leaderboard challenge,to pin your scores against other players who have the game. The music sounds like something from Metal Gear because it sets the mood for whatever situation you're in.Whether enemies are looking for you,or boss fights. The voices of Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as The Joker are very well done. The controls are tight, this is not just some button-mashing game. There are specific buttons you have to press for certain types of enemies. So if you're a fan of Batman pick this game up.

This game is absolutly fabulous. The gameplay is SOOO smooth. You can create combo's that go on for days. A kick here, a choke there, and a punch there, and you got a lethal combo waiting to happen. The jokes and cut scenes (script) are very good. Some cheesy jokes, but thats how the joker tells 'em. The script and plot is actually so good, they could make batman three or four into this, no dougt. The side quests like the riddler tropheys, are actually fun to search for. The game has great graphics. From the island to gotham, the grapics keep your attention. If you think that you are only in the asylum, you are wrong. You swing and run all across Arkham island, fighting goons, maniacs, and a lot of batmans villians. Such as Bane, Killer Croc, Scarecrow (Killian Murphy from Batman One), and so much more that you will recognize immediattly. You will also see villians that you didn't know about from the comic books (don;t want to spoil). The ONLY bad part about this game is it can get a bit repetitive. Like the vents and the gargoyles, but even that is'nt a big deal. If you want a batman game that opens up an island worth of fun and excitement, Get ready to get schooled with Batman: Arkham asylam!! (Yes, i came up with that)

I purchased Batman: Arkham Asylum expecting a great game, and came out thrilled that it was oh-so more. The gadgets, fight combos, and super villains- it's all here. Mark Hamills' voice acting as The Joker is just as, if not more well done than in the cartoon. The game is spent trying to stay one step ahead of Batmans arch nemesis as he attemps to take over Arkham and they really did a great job progressing the downfall of any hope coming Batmans way- you are truly the last hope. Problems with the game include some weak boss battles and a short campaign. I played on Normal and had no problems beating the game in under 8 hours. There are, however Riddler puzzles and fight challenges to beat to try and keep the player going, but for me that just wasn't enough after beating the story.
Overall Batman is hands down the best Action game this year and the best comic book game that I know of. Definitely worth a play-through. And gliding as Batman could possibly be the coolest thing ever.

This game is by far one the most well developed games I've played. At first, it appears to be just another 3rd person button masher type of game. It turns out that the game is subtly teaching you little attributes, skills, capabilities and usage of gadgets little by little. It becomes quite addicting and the battles with thugs never cease to get tiresome. There are so many unlockables in this game which leads to more replayability. The graphics are wonderful and the voice acting was very VERY well done. Everything about this game warrants for a Game of the Year nod. If there were any weaknesses to this game, it would be that there is no realtime GPS on the screen. You have to keep pressing '<' to access the map. Also, you can practically pass the whole game staying on "Detective Mode" continuously (except for the Scarecrow sequences). Aside from that, this game definitely took me by surprise and I was impressed how all the rave and reviews of this game were quite accurate.

If you're a batman fan, buy this game. If you're an action game fan, buy this game. If you're a well done games in general, well, you get the idea by now.
While predominantly an action game, this has a good variety of different gameplay styles in it. Combat is fast and fluid, very easy to pick up but will require some time to become flawless. Batman really does feel like a ninja - effortlessly taking apart the hordes of unarmed thugs that come at him which is made more entertaining by the VERY satisfying bone-crunching sound effects you hear as he fights. I would compare it to the agile combat of Prince fo Persia, only slightly more satisfying. One could complain that most thugs are too easy to defeat, poor guys don't even know how to block aside from 'special' enemies who are immune to certain directional attacks, but watching yourself spin around like a whirlwind is so fulfilling that you won't mind.
Almost as a counterpoint, you will also engage in certain stealth elements. This is the most flawed aspect of Arkham Asylum though still provides some challenge, not to mention malicious fun. This 'Stealth Predator' mode typically involves you using the environment to your advantage. Crawling through ventilation shafts, hanging from gargoyles, popping up from grates along the floor... there is some good variety, and if you are inclined you can just try to drop down and fight it out. I wouldn't advise it against enemies with guns, though. As you pick off your enemies comrades, they start to get scared. If you have detective vision on it reads their heart-rate as you terrify your enemies, gradually taking them out one by one. Setting traps with explosive gel on walls, ceilings, or floors, hanging your enemies from gargoyles, or any other style of torment you want to inflict on your enemies is up for grabs. But there is a downside. Enemies are almost supernaturally daft. You can easily take out an entire group of baddies without a single touch of risk to yourself, and they hardly notice if you take out one of their friends with a silent takedown right behind them. The difficulty does gradually increase as you work your way through the game, at times spiking far more than any previous situation in the game, before dropping back down to a cakewalk. I found myself attempting multiple overly elaborate traps just to get some kind of challenge out of it.
Exploration is a large part of the game as well. Whether it be finding alternate paths to approach an unsuspecting enemy, or trying to find one of the hidden items scattered throughout the game. You can research the history of Arkham itself (nerdgasms galore), find interview sessions with several of Batman's prominent rouges gallery, or enjoy the sarcastic congratulations from the Riddler as you solve his puzzles. These are the only true puzzles that I've seen in the game, the majority of them are finding items related to more characters central to the Batman mythos. These items may be more interesting to Batman fans, but its hard not to enjoy some of the truely chilling interviews.
While there are other aspects of the game to discuss, I won't go into any more detail to avoid spoiling anything. Playing on normal the game is pretty easy, but the story is interesting and the game is fun. Definitely recommended.

The graphics are awesome! The original voices of the cartoons being apart of all the characters is just great. The gameplay is nice because of the full control you have during gameplay. The xray vision is a cool touch to see the enemies, and another way to let you see into how Batman really makes the best hero. Seems quite easy to play though, haven't went against a boss though. Can't wait to get the collector's edition, because of what it includes. I have seen the collector's edition already, pretty big box but is so awesoooome!

The graphics are outstanding. The gameplay is outstanding. I really like the story mode and the characters. Joker is really funny. All the toys you get to use through the game is incredible. It makes you keep playing, and playing, and playing, and playing. The way Batman's cape moves when he walks is almost lifelike. Gliding through the air is also really fun. It feels as though you are flying through the air. There is lots to do in the game, and lots of things to find. Get it now.

This game is ridiculously good!! i have yet to beat the game, but i can't put it down... hours go by without notice. The riddler puzzles and hidden gems make the game last so much longer, and can be very tricky. Fun to play a game that really makes you think while you beat up bad guys with sweet fighting moves & gadgets. This is a great 1 player game, and i hope it will have many expansions to it because of the lack of online play.

The graphics, music, storyline, and voice acting immerse you into the BATMAN universe. This game will be in the running for game of the year when all is set and done. Another thing the joker will be a playable character in the 360 version folks, remember Darth Vader in Soul Caliber IV being only exclusive to the ps3, it ended up being downloadable content on the xbox live market place just a few days later .

Graphics: Excellent 9.5/10
Sound: Excellent 9.5/10
Controls: Great 8.5/10
Gameplay: Excellent 9.5/10
Replay: Very Good 8.0/10
Overall: Excellent 9.0/10
Note to the reader: This game has been played through and completed in its entirety.
Graphics: Excellent 9.5/10
The graphics are excellent, the cut-scenes and in-game graphics are seamless, and this is a great addition to the Fall 2009 line-up. It looks, feels, and has undertones of being "Bioshock-esque". This title pushes this generations graphics and leaves the purchaser wanting more. The shadows, lighting effects, colors, but more importantly the motions and combat animations are great, and really immerse you into the game. The bad guys, though repetitive, are detailed along with the backgrounds, and environments. This is a rich, and engrossing, environment.
Sound: Excellent – 9.5/10
The thing that sets this game apart is the voice acting. Games have had problems with cheesy actors, but this title gets Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil to do the voices of Batman and the Joker (from the Animated series). This game has the sound, from the sounds of the punches, groans, the heightening tension of the music when an attack is coming, and the sounds of The Asylum. The ambiance is set in the different areas by the increasing tones of heightening sense of importance through the use of music in this game.
Controls: Great - 8.5/10
Very well done and responsive control set. During combat, the controls can be pinpoint accurate, and makes it fun when playing the challenges. The downside is the use of Batman's arsenal, which the controls are lack accuracy.
Gameplay: Excellent – 9.5/10
Let me start by saying that when playing this game, there is nothing better than having an excellent Batman Game. With or without Batman, this game would be fun regardless, but just having this license makes it that much better. However, that being said, this game is a single player experience, and that is not a bad thing. Having a multi-player may have actually hurt this title. The computer A.I. will shoot you in the back, hunt you down, and will be aware of where you have been.
Replay Value: Very Good - 8.0/10
Once the game is over, you will most likely be wanting more. Luckily, there are many unlockables, multiple difficulty levels, and a challenge mode, with more maps to come, to keep you going. You will want to find all the upgrades for every weapon, and compare your times to your friends. After all that is said and done, you will have got your money's worth.
Overall – Excellent 9.0/10
This is an excellent game, and is almost a 10/10, but it is not perfect. This game is a nice addition to the end of the Summer 2009 release schedule and is worth every penny. This game is a great mix of pure action and stealth.
This game is a mix of Gears of War, Bioshock, and Assassin's Creed. Where this game does many things right, it is flawed and glitch in just as many areas. If this were another title name, I would still have enjoyed it still as much.
Verdict: BUY IT

Having spent a few days with this game, I can tell you it is incredible. I have not been this impressed by a console game since Force Unleashed. This game rocks my world.
The first thing I noticed, is that incredible detail is given to the graphics. They're amazing. All through the game, the rendering of locations and people is fantastic. The second thing I noticed were the voices. The Joker sounds incredibly familiar, and so does Batman...I wager they might actually be the voices from one of TV series. They're probably not, but...they sound so close, that for me, this just added an extra level of authenticity. Next was the mature, darker setting of the game. Not a kid's Batman game; the Joker immediately started by strangling a prison guard to death with his handcuff chain. The Joker's persona is portrayed impeccably.
Combat...is just plain awesome. Like you would expect from Batman, he faces 4-10 thugs at a time, with awesome martial arts combos that spring from just two buttons, so it's easy. With the "counterattack" button, you can drop Batman's focus from the guy you're slugging onto the guy that's about to pound you, and successfully take on large groups. You can also throw some liberal use of the batarang into combat. However, give the thugs guns, and the entire focus changes. Even ONE with a gun is hard to fight head-on, two is almost impossible...he's definitely Batman, not Superman. Grappling to higher levels sets you up for awesome glide kicks (where he spreads his cape and soars down to plant both feet into the bad guy), or rappelling down to grab one, pull him back up, and leave him dangling from a ledge wrapped up in cable. On the ground, sneaking up behind someone leads to a silent takedown (the only way to take one guy in the room out without alerting the rest). Of course, once they know you're there doesn't mean they can see you, if you just swing around the top of the room, wait for one to separate from the group, and pick them off once they isolate themselves. Add in panicked comments from the thugs like "how does he keep doing this" or "where did it go?!" and it makes for a pretty sweet experience. The camera also zooms in and switches to slow-motion for various awesome knockouts.
The music is pretty sweet all through-out the game. The gadgets are sweet, from using multiple batarangs to knock guys down in the middle of a brawl, to a gel explosive you can blow walls down with, to a very sweet "detective mode" that lets you assess where bad guys are in the room, whether they're armed, check from structural weaknesses in walls/floors, etc. There are more gadgets I haven't unlocked yet. The entire game is also permeated by a series of challenges (collecting hidden trophies and solving riddles that correlate to your environment) to complete some extra, outside-the-plot challenge laid by the Riddler.
Already this game has provided an amazing experience for me...and I have a feeling it's only going to get better. I'd recommend it to you in a heartbeat...you'll LOVE it.

Once I figured out the fighting technique it moved a lot better. Actually going through the combos against multiple opponents was a lot of fun and the Challenge mode is indeed very challenging. The story line keeps you involved the whole way through and using all of the different Batman gadgets makes for an excellent Batman experience. I wish you'd have gotten to drive the Batmobile or Batwing at some point but maybe in a future game this will be possible.
You could easily get through the game button-mashing your way to victory but the stealth-like Batman plays even better if you play it like mystery he's supposed to be.

First, everyone knows how great of a game this is, so I am not going to comment on this aspect. Instead, I will address what could of been better.
Still a great title that you need to buy.
.
CONS
1.) There is absolutly no challenge to beating this game. That is probably why it feels so short in story mode. It's over in a blink of an eye.
2.) With all the characters in this game, it would have been nice if they added an online multip player game or at least co-op story mode.
3.) The story was okay, but could of been developed a little more. There was no mystery to the plot and you can pretty much guess what is going to happen next. As a result, you get a feeling that Batman could of played more of detective role if the story was better. In turn, you would then become more invested in the character.
4.) Although Bain and Croc show up as bosses in the game, they reallly don't add anything to the story. Also, you find Ridller clues which he taunts you, but where is the man himself? Where is the peinguin and Mr. Feeze?
5.) Scarecrow and the nightmare scenes are VERY impressive. The eriee sounds and mind blowing graphics really can't be described in words. However, Scarecrow as a boss was really disappointing. Just avoid his sight and you got him beat.... you got to be kidding (that easy). At least have his syringe hand come after you or something!!!
