The best Batman movie aside from the Nolan films

Batman Mask of the Phantasm was easily the best Batman film of the 90's. Tim Burton's takes on the character were very stylish and dark as well, but had little Batman mythos and although fun and memorable were fairly shallow takes on the hero and his more famous villains. This film, however, even as a cartoon manages to tackle such fascinating aspects of the Batman as whether he has ever loved or how he can deal with it.
The film begins when a series of mobsters are killed by a mysterious cloaked figured with a strange tendency to appear and disappear from nowhere and a large blade instead of one of its hands. This figure is mistaken for the Batman, and it becomes the belief that he has finally gone crazy and is tackling the underworld of Gotham. As Batman seeks to stop the killer and clear his name, Bruce Wayne's old love Andrea returns to Gotham, and throws his private life into disarray. Forced to face a past in which he sought to lead a normal life, Bruce is torn between his desire for happiness and his duty as Gotham's Dark Knight.
This is a very layered story, and the voice acting is top-notch. Mark Hamill of course steals the show as the Joker, who becomes one of the killer's targets, and who gets the chance to push the limits of his psychosis much more in this film than he even did in the television series of which this film was the culmination. There were some lesser spin-offs later on, but this is definitely the coup-de-grace for a truly great show.
I recommend this to anyone who likes Batman. It's fun for all ages, but it's not too childish for the oldeer crowd. Also, if you love Christopher Nolan incredible reboot series (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight), then you will find that the level of darkness and intelligence in this film is similar to that found in those. This is brilliant entertainment.

Batman and the Phantom

This is a great movie. In this movie you learn some about Bruce Wayne's past, before he was Batman and this information you will only find in this movie. You also get to learn some about the Joker's past, how he use to be a gangster and this was before he was the Joker. Andrea use to be Bruce Wayne's girlfriend. Her father had borrowed some money from some gangsters (one of them being the Joker, but this was before he was the Joker) and they kept adding more and more interest, so that he would never be able to pay it off. So Andrea and her father left the country, but then the gangsters ended up finding them because someone sold them out. Now ten years later, the Phantom is in Gotham and he's after the gangsters that conned Andrea's father. The mischief that the Phantom is doing is being blamed on Batman because people are mistaking him for Batman (I'm guessing because of the cape). So it's up to Batman to unmask this Phantom and make Gotham realize that his record is clean. The conclusion will leave you in a state of shock in this exciting thriller. So you should definitely buy it if you're in the mood for a great suspense movie.

This movie is really GREAT! While it's the only one I own, it still is a good film, with Mark Hamill as the Joker and Kevin Conroy as Batman playing their roles perfectly. I recommend it to any Bat-Fan!
