The most overhyped DC animated film

The Killing Joke is based on one of the most iconic Batman comics ever. So when it was announced that they were making this comic a film, people were excited. Unfortunately, this movie is just okay. The beginning is an original by Bruce Timm and follows batgirl as she tries to capture a sociopathic criminal. The prologue tries too much to make as much an impact as the Killing Joke. And there are so many creative decisions that just don't work. Such as Batgirls obsession with Batman (which is creepier in the film). However when the film finally gets to the comic that inspired it, it gets good. The prologue tried to get you to care about Batgirl a moment later can shock you even more. However it takes away from The Joker himself who is supposed to be the main focus of it. The cast is all fine here, however it's hamill that steals the show. If you're interested in purchasing it or even just watching it, just skip maybe 30 minutes or so to actually get to the killing joke. It is much much better.

    Killing Joke

The Killing Joke is a very dark graphic novel which I do not recommend for young children. With that out of the way, it is one of my favorite books because it addresses the possibility of having to face the darkest side of anyone's personality. Batman had to face the fact that he might have to kill in order to save an innocent's life. Luckily he was willing to take the risk. This is not a question that could be handled in the mainstream books and movies. I hope you will watch this and enjoy it as much as I do. A Faithful Batman Fan Forever

The Killing Joke drastically changed and redefined the role of Barbara Gordon in the DC Universe. The movie stayed on course with the events of the comic and added a prologue for Batgirl. However, there is a shocking twist presented that a true Batman fan may have a hard time accepting. I do recommend the movie for those that haven't read the comic.

The “Killing Joke” is one of my favorite graphic novels of all time. But, I was skepticle when this film was announced at Comic Con. I decided to take a chance and purchase it. For nostalgia’s sake. After watching the film, I came away impressed. The film not only followed the graphic novel, it also added a back story for Batgirl and her relationship with Batman. Although the film did not have the profound effect the graphic novel did when I was young, it is still a great film to enjoy.

I'm very happy they've decided to bring this classic to an animated format. The inclusion of the graphic novel and the figurine are a plus. Furthermore, they have included an introductory story about Batgirl which, although not necessary, it is welcome. Although the animated version of these stories often fall short compared to their novel/ comic counterparts, I think this version is going to please many fans out there as they have tried to keep it true to the original story. In my opinion, this is a must-have for everyone.

This is A tough one.I love the voice cast specially Mark ha I'll and Kevin Conroy coming back as the Joker and Batman...overall it just wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be...kind of slow paced...The prologue that a lot of people said was unnecessary did in fact seem unnecessary but overall has a completest I would recommend it

This movie is more for collectors of Batman franchise items and may not be as entertaining to a casual viewer. Still, it gives an infamous background and origin story for the Joker and stays pretty faithful to the ironic comic of the same name. A Batgirl Act 1 intro adds to the run-time to make the cartoon have a full movie run-time.

The Killing Joke is hailed by many as one of the greatest comics ever. And so the animated movie had big shoes to fill. Thankfully I think it did the book justice. The story originally is really short, so for the animated film they added more story elements to better develop one character in particular and I actually really enjoyed it.

The killing joke works great when it sticks to the original story. The movie adds u necessary back story, and a bizarre love scene between batman and Batgirl. The actual adaption of the book is great, amplified by amazing performances from Conroy and Hamil. Did we need all that back story? No just fast forward to the actual adaptation.

A very dark and foreboding comic book movie, just what you'd expect with the Dark Knight involved with the Joker's sheenigans again. This time, we get to see how Batman handles the Joker when he does something horrible to someone close to him. The ending will surprise you (if you already don't know the ending to the comic book).

This movie was interesting and followed key points of the comic. There are some extras added in but I thought they were okay things to add. It is a dark movie and not for kids in my opinion. I'm so happy they brought Mark Hamill back! He truly is the Joker. Overall, worth watching but not as good as some of the other DC animations.

Great story, even better when it's animated. Mark hamil really embodies the joker and that laugh is just spine tingling. Great movie. If this was the last time Mark hamil and Kevin conroy reprise their roles as batman and joker then it is a great exit. Thanks to both for bringing those characters to life for the past 25 years

Unlike a lot of people I didn't hate the first part of this movie. The Batgirl story was okay but it didn't really add anything to the story, at the cost of a seriously cringeworthy WTH moment. Once The Killing Joke story took off it was much smoother. This is one of the essential Batman stories and it was done very well.

The producers took some liberties when it came to the source material...but as an origins story (or in the case of Barbara Gordon, an career finale), it was well worth the ride. The Collectors Edition, complete with The Joker figurine & Graphic novel "Batman: The Man Who Laughs", was well worth the price of admission.

Let me start by saying that I have seen every Batman movie on Blu Ray available. This one left me a little bit disappointed. The first half was okay but the the second half was better. I have been waiting for this movie to come out for a very long time, after reading the book, which I highly recommend. The graphics were great and the character voices were great, especially Mark Hamill as joker. It was rated R for a good reason; swearing, violence, and certain situations. Definitely not a movie for kids. it was great to finally see Batman laugh. If you really, really like Batman and the DC world then you should buy this film, especially if you collect them. If you just like the Batman motion pictures, then maybe this is not the best movie for you to buy. The special features were good. I repeat, this is not a movie you want to show your younger kids, it is rated R for a good reason.

To start, this Batman animated movie is more mature than any other one that I've seen. It is a really good movie, but the story is driven heavily by serious drama (not the typical comic book action of many animated movies) with real adult themes and concerns. The story is top notch and it is a great thing to see the producers taking a chance on a Batman story that is such a psychological thriller as compared to relying on adrenaline-fueled fight sequences to carry one scene to the next.

Much has been said about the new beginning added to this story. While I don't think it was needed I didn't find it as bad as many people did. The overall presentation is still a very enjoyable adaptation of the classic Batman story, plus having Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill back as the Joker is always a plus,
