It's important to remember that each individual comes to a movie not only with certain expectations and preconceived notions, but a different life experience up until the point they view a movie that will inform how they respond to a given piece of entertainment. I'm a child of the nineties, a product of Power Rangers and Capri Sun's; a time when what some would argue the best iteration of Bob Kane's Batman character would be brought to life. I'm of course referring to Batman: The Animated Series which ran from 1992-1995 and more or less became the defining Batman in my life-the Batman all other Batman's would be chasing from that point on. Too young for Michael Keaton's movies and too juvenile to initially understand just how bad Joel Schumacher's films were, the animated series brought to life the most genuine and credible version of the superhero my generation (or any other up to that point) could imagine. I adore the Christopher Nolan trilogy and what he did for the genre as a whole. I will forever hold that trilogy in high regard and The Dark Knight as one of the single greatest theater-going experiences of my life. Eight years after the Nolan/Christian Bale epic that will go down in history as the best live action version of Batman thanks to the late Heath Ledger's performance we now have the next attempt to bring the caped crusader to life in what is more or less the sequel to 2013's Man of Steel. Jump-starting the DC Universe in an attempt to catch up with Marvel Studios, director Zack Snyder and his team have delivered a film that seems to want to bring the tone, artistic quality, and believe it or not...the fun of that nineties animated series to life on the big screen, extended universe and all. This is where I come at the movie from. A place of balance between what was my childhood Batman (never having a large affinity for Superman given he never had as influential an animated series) and what is my more mature, realistic Batman in the Nolan trilogy. It's a parallel that worked out well for my progression from child to adult and so, the big question was: where would Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice fit into this scheme and how would everything I've seen and read of these characters inform my response to Snyder's bringing together of these two icons on the big screen for the first time? For this particular viewer: I enjoyed it.

It was a good purchase at the time 2016, and i realized my PC optical drive that reads UHD 4K disc doesn't support playback, and now i have an XBOX ONE S to play 4K UHD movies, loved it ever since! Of course you need a 4K TV to watch the 4K UHD content. Love the movie, and a good addition to my collection!

The only redeeming value of the movie are the action scenes in 3D. It's definitely worth watching.
However the story and plot leaves lots to be desired for. Characters pop up like Wonder Woman and you're not really sure why she's there in the first place. Robin is supposed to be dead but if you're not really following the comics, you have to interpret the scene of graffiti on his costume and a sad looking Batman as enough for an explanation (no budget for a flashback?).
The movie itself feels like a Christian film based about Armageddon with Lex Luthor even referring the superheroes as "gods" and even mention God's name along with a list of other gods. Except if you want to watch a movie about Armageddon, there are definitely better ones than this.
There are many parts that will bore you. If Superman is supposed to be the opposite of Batman, you couldn't tell in this movie. Superman is as gloomy as ever. Both heroes are very gloomy. The setting is very dark.
You will be disappointed. Obviously you have to watch it once if you're into superhero movies but they really dropped the ball on this one.

I don't know why so many people hate this movie. It was like taking the "Death of Superman" and Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns" stories from the comics, adding a tiny bit of the Injustice comic, and putting all of it in a blender. True comic book fans will know what I'm referring to.

Good to see Batman and Superman on film finally but not the best. But the action is good, good fight scenes. Superman doesn’t speak much in the film. Good popcorn film. Ultra 4K is beautiful.

Great Picture and Sound for a troubled flick

I have my own personal bias due to my love for everything Superman, but the Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice - Ultimate Edition is worth the purchase(for fans-only). The movie itself aside, the picture and sound are excellent, but just shy of reference material. The Best Buy exclusive steelbook case is a nice addition and worth the extra $5 for collectors.
The movie is another matter altogether. You either like it(with a multitude of caveats), tolerate it, or hate it(any "love it" out there is to be highly questioned). It has a ton of issues primarily stemming from a film that has roughly 3-4 movies worth of content crammed into one 3-hour package. While the "Ultimate Edition" cut is a bit of an improvement to the oddly jumbled theatrical cut, they simply tried to jam far too much into this one flick. Add in another shafting of the character of Superman(for the most part, ably played by Henry "I-so-look-the-part" Cavill) and a goofy representation of Lex Luthor(played by the usually good Jesse Eisenberg), Dawn of Justice repeatedly misses the target of a good DC storyline. One can only hope that future entries in this universe(Wonder Woman, Justice League) will finally meet the higher expectations of today's super-hero movie audience. I can say that the highlights include a good Batman/Wayne played by Ben Affleck, some quality action scenes from the new Dark Knight as well and a pretty great introduction to Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman(fingers crossed for that one next year).
In the end, I would say this is worth the buy.
On a related note: I was rather disappointed by Warner Bros. poor choice of only including the theatrical cut Blu-ray with the Ultra HD release of Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice - Ultimate Edition. This forced me to decide on only purchasing the Blu-ray-only release and skipping out on the Ultra HD set(for future upgrade). A very petty choice by the WB to make sure some fans will double-dip down the road. Generally I do not have an issue with upgrading, but in this case they can go fly a kite.

This is a dark full of action superhero film! No jokes every 10 minutes like the other superhero films aimed to please the children & female audience. Adults will love this movie!
It's a Frank Miller/Dark Knight comics based storylines - this is not a kids film.

Underrated Movie

A lot of people give this movie a hard time. We need to stop expecting Christopher Nolan-caliber movies from Snyder. Snyder is a different director. While Nolan emphasizes character relationships and movies grounded in realistic fantasies, Snyder is more about the action. Take 300 for example. In my opinion, no one is attempting to extract deep character relationships from that movie. It is an action movie, and was reviewed as such by most critics. I feel that many critics were overly harsh on this movie because it gets directly compared to the Nolan movies from the same universe. When I went in to this movie, I had no such expectations. The only thing I expected was incredible special effects and action. The movie delivered on this front. I agree with most that the story was shallow at times. It attempted to "hit all the bases" and reshape the DC franchises. This did not work in favor of "Dawn of Justice." Eisenberg's Luthor felt "try-hardy" at times, which makes the villain seem awkward. Wonder Woman's appearances also felt jumbled and out of place. Overall, the movie was "fun," no more, no less. However, the movie does take itself way too seriously.
On a 1 - 10 scale I would give it a 7.0. Don't expect a Nolan film, just go in with an open mind and have fun watching some incredible cinematography and special effects.

Batman vs., Superman: Dawn of Justice is the setup of DC Comic book universe that will ultimately lead into the Justice League. Henry Cavill reprises his role as Superman, the man from Krypton who saved Planet Earth from the evil General Zod. Ben Affleck joins the cast as Bruce Wayne and Wayne's alter ego Batman. Also joining the cast Gal Gadot as Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman. The movie begins where Man of Steel left off. Bruce Wayne witnesses the destruction of Metropolis because of the epic battle between General Zod and Superman. Wayne immediately distrusts the Man of Steel, he believes Superman's actions are irresponsible and his alien powers are not to be trusted as Wayne believes he can be easily corrupted. The film moves forward 18 months and we meet the main protagonist of the film Lex Luther, Superman's arch-nemesis played by Jesse Eisenberg. Luther's master plan is to discredit Superman and tarnish his savior image and pitting Superman vs. Batman in the process. A lot worked for this film. Gal Gadot stole the show. Her portrayal of Wonder Woman was awesome. After watching her embrace this role, I cannot wait for her stand alone film. 2017 cannot come too soon. Surprisingly Ben Affleck was awesome. I was completely worried when they announced he would be playing the role of Batman. I remember his Daredevil film and how disappointed I was with the film. I did not expect him able to carry another superhero role let alone Batman. The tone of the film is a plus as well. The film is dark and gritty, a grownup superhero film, not one where a guy flies around calling people names of characters of other big films because they look like them or constant silly jokes. Doomsday was also pretty cool; he was created different than in the comics but looked perfect for the part. There are a couple things that do not work. The story at times drags a little but not too much where you will be bored with the film. Also, some characters are a tad underdeveloped like Holly Hunter as Senator Finch. At times she seems like she wants to be good and there times she wants to be bad, she can't decide. Lex Luther was off. He seemed more like The Joker than Luther as he was portrayed as a psychopath not a sociopath. Eisenberg's portrayal was at times over the top, but not overly annoying. I found myself OK with him and at times frustrated with him. Overall I enjoyed Batman vs. Superman. Is the film perfect? No, no film is no matter what anyone says. Is this the best superhero film, no it is not the best. Fans of Frank Miller's Dark Knight and The Death of Superman will appreciate this film. Marvel fans will pick this part just to find ways to hate this. Everything they criticized the film to me, they praised about The Avengers. Am I a DC fan boy that hates Marvel? No I am not. Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool, Captain America: Winter's Solider, X-Men: First Class, and X-Men: Days of Future Past are some of my favorite films. I tell everybody, see the film for yourself as everyone has different tastes.

While the previously unreleased material do add a little more context to what is going on, it does not fill in all the holes that exist in this film. With that said, this is still a highly enjoyable film that is at the level of the early MCU films. One of the issues that the DCEU movies are running into is that they are focusing on their most well known characters, and having to try and introduce them as something new. The MCU started with characters like Iron Man and Captain America, while well known, were not the foremost characters of the Marvel comic universe. They certainly are not at the level of Batman and Superman in terms of being known characters in popular culture. So, the introduction of these characters did have some unknown qualities to them. Batman and Superman are so well known that there is no way to really introduce the characters without creating some serious changes. Thus we get a sullen Superman, and a murderous Batman. Where BvS seems to get right, and what might ultimately be the DCEU's path to righting the ship, is with Wonder Woman. She is certainly one of the better parts of BvS. Early previews of her standalone film also provide hope. What makes Wonder Woman such a better character to follow in the DCEU than Batman and Superman is that she is a known character, but few non-comic book people could really say anything substantive about her. This allows for a film similar to Iron Man. A movie about a known character, but is able to tell a story that a large segment of the audience might not know. What all of this amounts to is that this is a worthwhile purchase because it could be the start of a good thing, much like the early films of the MCU.

I saw BvS the night it opened and it was better than I was expecting after all the bashing I’ve heard from critics and the media. It wasn’t perfect, but no movie is (other than Empire Strikes Back). I’d give it a 7.5 out of 10. I loved Ben Affleck as the both an aged and bitter Bruce Wayne and the brutal and violent Batman. He really nailed it in my eyes, making the character his own while creating a great adaptation of the 1986 comic book The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. I also thought Wonder Woman was the highlight of the movie and had good chemistry onscreen with Affleck. Her screen time was limited though and I can’t wait for her solo movie in June 2017. The final third act; the big fight scenes between Batman and Superman and the battle against Doomsday by DC’s Trinity were awesome eye candy for every comic book nerd out there. This movie is more of a straight forward drama which was more engaging than a fan boy energy rush (like all those dam Michael Bay Transformers movies). Eisenberg is a different Lex Luthor than we have ever seen on the big screen. Rather than just being evil greedy a-hole like we have seen of previous versions of Lex, this one is driven by his ego, clearly has some mental disorders and is just crazy at times. Overall, BvS is different than the movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but that is a good thing as they have to take a different approach to get all the characters together. I don’t want to go into too much detail about the movie because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, but I think the DC Extended Universe is building toward something special and all its own.

Love the Steelbook, Better Version of the Movie

First and foremost, I love Batman. Have since I was a child and still do as an adult. Which means anytime there's a movie featuring him I'm close to the front of the line to see it. "Batman v Superman" was no different I saw it in a half-full theater at 7pm on the Thursday before it truly opened. I liked it but clearly watched a flawed movie, missing pieces, and questionable stylistic (not to mention story) choices.
This extended version fixes almost all of that. True, Batman is still utterly and totally broken which means he completely throws away his golden rule and mows down thugs like a weed whacked in a field. And Lex Luthor is possibly even more Edward Nygma than the ruthless, cunning mastermind his comic counterpart is.
But now Lois isn't just a pretty lady who pops in every so often when convenient. She actually has reasons for her actions and also means the entire first scene after the opening has backstory and less of a random set piece.
Scenes are more fleshed out, the (still chaotic) story flows together smoother, and Zach Snyder's overbearing style with his directing isn't as much of an eye sore since scenes have room to breathe now. Overall, greatly enjoyed this version and the daunting 3-hour run time flew on by. Looked and sounded great at the same time, which isn't surprising as the Ultimate Edition Blu-ray has only the movie so plenty of space for the movie.
The steelbook packaging is OK though. Promoted as choosing either a Batman or Superman versions they are overall just the same book, only flipped to the hero of your choosing. So that's a little to be desired but match the Nolan trilogy steelbooks I already have.
