MGM brings Battle for Britain to Bluray in a 1080p/MPEG-2 encoding that overall is very pleasing and natural, but not without some problems. To the good stuff; the print from which the encoding is derived looks free from blemishes and scratches. This is probably the most natural looking presentation I have reviewed so far, no pumped up colors, no highly polished look, no overly contrasted images, just natural looking images that resemble what we see when we go out doors. For this to be a nearly forty year old film, there is an amazing amount of detail both fine (Look at the detail everywhere in Sir David Kelly's office), and far field detail as well (Look out in the distance of outdoor shorts). The film grain looks coarse, but not objectionable. The aerial scenes looked amazing, so amazing that some of the visual effects just fall apart before your very eyes. Quite frankly, the picture quality is quite good, and looks like film on video, not film turned into video by excessive processing and digital manipulation.

The movie was very good and the video quality was great, considering the age of the original film. This was made before CGI became so widely available, and, as a result, much of the aviation footage was shot with real airplanes, some of which were modern aircraft modified to look like aircraft of the period, and some were actually borrowed from other countries that were still flying them! Lots of good actors, and a plot which was mostly historically accurate. Recommended.

A powerful, colourful and star-studded re-creation of the epic 1940 battle that took place in the skies over England. Surprised and understaffed, the British forces used determination and guile to valiantly hold off the superior forces of the German Luftwaffe in the early days of World War II. If England had lost, the Germans may very well have won the war. The incredible cast includes Michael Caine, Robert Shaw, Curt Jurgens, and Laurence Olivier, in a no-expense-spared production featuring stunning airborne dog-fight sequences.

Although the effects look a little dated by comparison to today's era of CGI, this movie accurately depicts how Royal Air Force prevented the German invasion of England. Sir Winston Churchill called the greatly outnumbered pilots of the RAF ' the few' to whom the British people owed a tremendous debt for preventing almost certain defeat.

Really good movie worth a watch and captures the historical event that happened in 1940 England, while it succeeds in giving the an impression of a historical moment, with some of the most astonishing aerial-warfare sequences pictured during those days.

With the upcoming release of Dunkirk, this film screams remake. It has held up well with the test of time. Historically, this film depicts a crucial point in western civilization where so few did so much for the many.

I purchased this movie because it was on sale and on Blu Ray. I love this picture and the flying scenes on Blu Ray just makes it even better. Great price for a great movie that I saw several times in the theater when I was 9 on a Saturday afternoon.

This was a halfway decent depiction of the ww2 bombing of GB and a time that should not be forgotten, let us never forget that peace comes at a price paid for many times over, and this is an example of the reasons why we have a military.

What the RAF did over the English Channel to stop the German Luftwaffe in the summer of 1940 was unbelievable. The movie action scenes are remarkable for 1969, some of the fill-in storylines are a little limp though, Good Blu-Ray video.

There something about old war movies that just gets one going. With an all star cast and one of the biggest storylines of WWII how can it go wrong?!?

I love history, and some of these older movies are great to watch when you don't want to read. I love that a lot of these movies are now coming out in blu-ray.

It is amazing that the prints of so many classic movies are being produced on Hi Resolution media. Brings new life to these movies and permits an OUTSTANDING viewing experience not possible for decades.

This is a great blast from the past with a young Michael Caine and other old school actors in their prime. Still a good dramatic telling of the Battle of Britain.

This is a movie that we have not seen and we were delighted when I was able to purchase it from BestBuy at a good price so my wife and I can watch it anytime we want.

This is a classic war film that is best known for its' amazing flying sequences. While the plot is a bit trite, the film is totally worth it for the battle sequences alone.

Good film, epic in scope with an all start cast. Great deal on this at Best Buy - War Movies on sale for fathers day.

The production was absolutely outstanding, even by modern standards. It's an interesting movie, and I believe, pretty close to history in its telling. I'm usually pretty good with British accents having traveled the UK, but this is a seriously British movie in vocabulary and accent. Not a show stopper, just a bit frustrating/distracting during an otherwise riveting enactment.

great insight into the character of the British in WWII - marvel at the courage that it required to fight against such long odds

If you don't like Spitfires, Hurricanes, Spanish versions of Bf-109 fighters and HE-111 bombers, great aerial shots, and history, don't waste your time.

This is one of my all-time favorite war films. It is a must-see just for the aerial sequences alone.
