meanders in the middle episodes but ends great

The beginning of the season is surprise to the audience, jumping months ahead in time from the last moment of the previous season ( which had the Cylons arriving at New Caprica to take control ). The first few episodes show the desperation of some characters planetside, while Big Adama tenaciously tries to get Galactica and Pegasus trained for an attack to return to New Caprica to rescue those left behind. The rescue finally comes in Exodus, pt2, with lots of explosions and Adama's bold plan put into place. The next five episodes are mostly characters tending to emotions, a few more of the moral/ethical crisis moments that often happen on the series, and some action toward the fleet heading to earth. In the next four episodes ( The Passage, Eye of Jupiter, Rapture, Taking A Break.... ) the fleet finds a planet with a hidden temple that apparently was left by the thirteenth tribe; unfortunately the Cylons happen to also show up, soon followed by an even more potentially deadly problem. After surviving that crisis, which features the retrieval of Baltar, the next four episodes basically fill as filler, again more of the moral/ethical crisis situations than storyline progress, except for a big problem that Starbuck has. The last three episodes really roll ( Son Also Rises, then the two episode unit Crossroads ), with one situation resolved in part 2 of Crossroads but a new group of cliffhanger situations arise.

Insurgents & Suicide Bombers: Gutsiest TV Drama

As my good friend Yeit is quick to point out, the first four episodes of Battlestar Galactica Season 3 are quite compelling. Just consider the choice to have Tigh, Tyrol, and Anders command the insurgency of humans against cylons -- using suicide bombings and other forms of resistance. While I do not embrace guerrilla warfare, BSG is one of the few series, if any, that takes a serious look at the causes and effects of such a last resort measure. ... and the rest of the season [and series!] is solid, too!

This is by far the best season of Battlestar Galactica. The storyline kept me completely enthralled all the way to the end of the season...and then I just wanted more! The plot, characters, and filming are all consistant with previous seasons. The extras are great. Most of them were available online for a limited time during the first run of the show but are no longer easily accessable. I was glad they were put into the box set, as I enjoy seeinghearing them almost as much as the actual show.

Season 3 starts off right were the pulse pounding season 2 left off. The season continues the journey of the battlestar Galactica and the remaining human fleet. The story dives deeper into each character to culminate to one of televisions best hour in the season finale! It will leave you breathless and yearning for more! A word of advice, watch the webisodes on disc 2 first, as they bridge the gap between season 2 and 3.

Finally, season three is out! This is one of the smartest, well-made sci-fi series ever made. Excellent cliff hangers after each episode keeps you begging for more. This is the best season so far, mixing politics, science, religion and romance in the most intriguing ways. This DVD set is a must-have and will provide years of marathon TV viewing enjoyment.

I'm so glad I started watching this show, and I couldn't wait for season 3 to come out so I could catch up before season 4 started. Wow! It was well worth the wait. One of the best dramas, much less science fiction, on the television today!

This is an outstanding, well written, directed and acted TV series. It is unfortunate that so many people consider it beneath them because it is labeled "Sci-Fi". Highly recommended.

BSG is one of the very best dramas ever created for television. Superb acting with a great storyline and it all leads to a very satisfying conclusion.

    worst DVDs ever

i've watched every episode on these dvds, and the video quality is absolutely terrible. this box set was encoded at an extremely low bitrate, an average of 4mb/sec. this would seem to be an attempt to squeeze as many special features onto each disc, but what do you actually get? each episode features a "podcast commentary". what is that, you ask? the podcast commentaries are released simultaneously with the airing of each episode. the problem with this format, for me at least, is that these commentaries lack the kind of reflection inherent in commentaries recorded after the on-air run of a season has ended. also, they're podcasts, and they sound just like it. cheap, low quality audio. there are a few deleted scenes, as well as an extended episode "unfinished business", which includes an extra 25 minutes worth of footage. the extended cut is easily the best special feature here, but doesn't make up for the poor quality of the other special features. there are actually two proper commentary tracks, but again these don't make up for the absence of true commentaries on the other episodes. also included in the special features are some video blogs and "webisodes". the webisodes were featured on the shows website, and fleshed out the events preceding the first episode in season 3. these are actually pretty interesting since there's a significant gap between seasons 2 and 3. the video blogs are less fun, unless you're a fan of watching streaming video quality images on your television. all in all this box set would be worth buying if it weren't for one thing, the episodes look terrible. every shot in every scene is plagued by poor contrast, fuzzy detail, and excessive amounts of grain. compared to earlier releases this box set is a huge disappointment. these dvds fail to deliver on the single most important aspect of any dvd box set, the episodes themselves. pass on this unless, like me, you absolutely have to re watch season 3 before the beginning of season 4.
