I was so excited when I found it and bought it on the spot. I got it home and got it on the charger and let it sit for about 15 minutes. I loved it at first. I put it down on the floor and tried to control it. That was my first problem. The controls aren't very good. Then I tried to roll it into the other room and it doesn't roll on carpet. I put it away for the night and I played with it once or twice more before I took it back to Best Buy. It is not worth $149. Maybe $49.

This remote control robot is fun for any age. The interactive iPad app is very futuristic snd easy to learn. There are several modes of operation including a recon option in which the droid moves about the room on its own and another mode in which the user controls the droid's movements. The only thing I was disappointed by was the incredibly small size of the droid,

BB-8 is a great addition to the home, and we have had a lot of fun driving him around, and letting him explore. My animals are fascinated by him, and I have to watch them around the droid otherwise they think its another play toy for them. I haven't had any big issues, sometimes I just let bb-8 patrol around while I am doing my tasks and he's fun to watch. Took him with me a couple of times so people could also interact with him. You only get an hour of playtime before he needs charging, but that hour is tons of fun. Thicker carpet is an issue, and in the areas where we do have carpet he can only roll on the most walked areas at the highest speed setting so that is the only issue that we have come across. I have heard of people having issues with the app. but we have an iphone and haven't had trouble at all. I have had him about a month now, and he is getting better at not running into things, its just going to take some time. Just be warned he will grow on you if you don't love him already when he comes out of the box! Love hearing the opening music to star wars every time!! It is definitely worth every penny in my book!!!

I purchased this little guy when Best Buy had a sale ($120) the day The Force Awakens came out to Blu-ray/DVD. I have been eyeing it for some time, and have been impressed with the quality of other Sphero products I have seen.
It pretty much does what is advertised. Well constructed, and the app for controls is easy to use. Just be mindful of what surface it is on, due to the fact he was super fast on my hardwood floors, and I had to turn his sensitivity down. The animals love him as he rolls around the house, just be sure to check the small wheels under his head after you are done, since it can collect human or pet hair around the them, and can be a little tedious to clean out, regardless of how clean your floors are kept. I assume the rolling plastic material, combined with the magnet for the head to stay on, builds a very slight static charge since I have to also while his main body down due to it as well.
The additions of him reacting to The Force Awakens was a nice touch as well. He went insane with excitement when he saw his buddy Po Dameron and we got a kick out of it. Charming little product, and I look forward to what other additions they plan to do with the software, as well as hoping they make a larger model down the road.

This little guy is sweet. Steering takes a little getting used to and needs a little preplanning but the rest is very cool. The AR holograms are awesome and I love just letting him roll around and patrol on his own. His personality shines during that. Only down side is it does get a little played out after awhile. I don't use it much anymore...more of a novelty type toy and the novelty has worn down a little. Very dope product tho. My only wish was that it had its own speaker as well and didn't just play its noises thru the phone but I get it would increase the cost at that point too so I'm OK w it in the end. I'm hoping tho that since its pretty much just a phone app running this that they will continually update the app and add more features and routines that bb8 will run otherwise its gonna get old very fast...although I guess they already have my $150 so what do they care? ;-)

so i got caught up in the star wars hype when this little droid got released. i took the plunge and picked one up on bestbuy.com. it was easy to use, and pretty much the app does all the work. it connects seamlessly, and i like the fact that i can drive it, record holographic videos and has voice commands. a lot of features packed into a little droid. it is hard to handle in the beginning, and it definitely works better on hard surfaces. my house is all carpet, so i can really only drive bb8 around in my kitchen. like any new novelty, it lasts for only so long. im sure when im bored, i'll take him back out, and i like that he has a sort of a personality, even though its pretty much myself making him do certain things. nonetheless, i've enjoyed bb8 and i have no regrets.

As a fan I absolutely love this! It's more of a collector's piece than for play, but it can function as both. :) It has it's own little personality and works exactly like the BB-8 from the movie. It's fun to play with if you have pets, especially cats. Overall, do I think it's worth $150? Probably not to most, but to a Star Wars fan, it's a pretty neat little toy!

I was super excited when this was first advertised, and not at all surprised when it sold out quickly. I managed to buy one Black Friday weekend, and love it. It is smaller than I expected, but that's not really a negative...until it gets stuck under the kitchen cabinets.
It takes a little time to get used to the controls, but the speed and maneuverability is impressive. I've only used it on hardwood floors, so I don't know how it does on carpet. One Con - the head is very sensitive. One slight bump along a wall and it comes off. Other than that, very fun. I look forward to trying out all the features when I have time.

Saw commercial on television prior to purchase this on Force Friday. This is one of best robot to play with all day for entire family. Love how it roll and features it has. Sadly it won't work on some carpet. If you have a smooth surface carpet, no problem. The app is what makes it more fun. Comparing this one to Hasbro, Sphero is best because the head does not fall off. Looking forward to what Stars Wars has to offer...May The Force Be With You.

This product really exceeds my expectations. It is super fun for the kids and the cat loves it as well. It was REALLY hard to get my hands on one as the Force Friday deal was horrible on Best Buys part to have these available or at least help customers place orders for them (I placed 2 orders and after 3 weeks later place another order and got it within days) 3 orders/3 weeks later I got one. Product is awesome/Best buy customer service... Not so much.

Fun little gadget. It was smaller than we thought it would be but more our fault than the Bb8's. We all know movie cameras make items look bigger than in real life. The holographic image is seen through your phone when it is put in front of the bb8. It can be hard to see if your trying to send a message to someone else and hold the phone to control it. Neat little toy. Not the toys we had during the first Gen star wars movies.

This little droid is really adorable! Star Wars fans - this is a must as a special piece for your collection. While this droid is fun to play with (for nearly any age), the price is a little steep for the small amount of things it can do which is why I gave it four stars instead of five. Hopefully, Sphero can continue to build on this technology as it is really neat, but this is a great introduction.

I was excited to get this droid. I wanted it when they first came out, but figured I would wait hoping the price would go down. Well I finally caved in. While the droid is fun to play with at first, I got bored of it about 30 minutes into it. Granted I am an adult, but it seemed to have a wobbly head, not move the way I wanted, not move as smooth as I thought it would, and I wish the noises it made came from the droid and not my cell phone. It is a great idea and wish it was larger. I have the R2-D2 I bought years ago for the same price that is about 3 feet tall. I love that one to this day. This is a novelty item and I think I may return it. If they make some updates on it and make it larger, it would be a Real Winner!

I grew up loving the original Star Wars trilogy. I'm hoping the next is much better than the Jar Jar era. When I saw this droid online I had to have him. He rolls, he patrols, he does recorded holograms. Or so I thought.
He does roll around, but he had trouble on even medium thick carpet and he got stuck a lot on my tile. You really need a very smooth floor and very low pile carpet to get the most out of this guy. Also, he gets turned around very easily. There is a light to orient which way is forward, but if you have even a minor collision or stop or turn too fast that orientation gets lost.
Another issue I had is the patrol and hologram fall very short. The patrol doesn't actually map out the room or anything. He just rolls around in random directions until he hits something, usually causing his magnetically attached head to pop off.
The hologram is just a trick on the iPhone. No camera or projection on this $150 toy. Instead you record a message on your phone and then watch the droid through your phone camera to see the playback.
Once I started to have problems connecting my phone to the droid I decided it was time to send him back to the store while I still could. You may have a much better experience as long as you know where it falls short from the get go (I bought it on launch day), which is why I give it three stars. I'm not gonna hold out hope that someone else develops an app that does more than the manufacturers, as some do. Maybe I'll rebuy it then if it does happen. For now, it just wasn't worth the price tag for me. If it was a lower price point I might have kept it.

This app-enabled BB-8 is an awesome little gadget, and a must for any true Star Wars and technology fans! The app connectivity is awesome, and the BB-8 seems to respond pretty well to voice commands. Though a bit on the expensive side for the shelf-life longevity of what it actually does, it's an amazing little toy that's fun to bring out with friends and family! But of all the "remote control" Star Wars stuff out in the toy stores or speciality tech stores, this is by far the best I've used and I'd highly recommend it!

I got this BB-8 just before the release of TFA because of pure excitement. Without spoiling anything, I can say that BB-8 was the star of the show and I have no regrets buying him. All his modes (patrol, manual control, and emotes) are great! The only reason I didn't give a 5-star is because for what he is, $150 is just plain too much.

I got this little droid for my girlfriend for Christmas. It's easy to set up and configure if you know how to use a smartphone. A little disappointed by the one hour of use from a charge, but all in all, a great toy for young and old jedi alike!

Originally got the Hasbro BB-8 from Target, but that didn't work out very well so took it back, we had a hard time getting the Sphero at first so we also tried the Disney exclusive version which is much larger that goes off Voice commands, unfortunately no listing of voice commands comes with it so we have no way of getting to work other than pushing the button on top and having it roll a little. We kept it only because our son loves it. He loves the Sphero version even more though, we were hesitant due to the price but it has proven to be worth it as again our son loves it more than any of the others. Only drawback is the sounds come from the app on your phone instead of the actual BB-8. If you can afford the price which is steep, it is so much more worth it than the Hasbro version.
