Possibly the best James Bond movie

Great James Bond movie, first without Sean Connery. Director Peter Hunt tried first "reboot" of the series, casting a young George Lazenby in the movie closest in spirit to the Fleming novels. Terrific Schilthorn location, great ski chase and the finale, an aerial assault on a mountaintop fortress in the Alps, is astonishing. Lazenby is no Connery, but he is a better Bond than anyone else, with the exception of Daniel Craig. This Blu Ray is crisp and clear with tremendous detail. It also preserves the original aspect ratio of the film.

Purchased this as a gift for my son's collection. He has been updating his to Blu ray, and had thus far not been able to find this movie. Arrived perfectly on time for Christmas, and I got the benefit of watching it with him (I enjoy the entire series too:) Classic Bond, but also a good backstory that gives added dimension to the character.

I'm glad I never got the Bond box set, because this would have been one of the deciding factors. A stunning Bond film, well-paced and well shot. But the video transfer is not in the same class as "Dr. No" or "From Russia with Love." It looks like the HD assets for the old DVD were used, instead of a new capture. Given the low price, this could be forgiven...if not for the audio! The mono mix is actually good to excellent. But the 5.1 audio has the same phase/reverb problems in ST Next Generation Season 1. Some of the dialogue has this bizarre loud volume / reverb not present in the mono. Or the DVD. Paramount actually issued new discs for the Star Trek screw-up. But I don't expect the same here. In sum, the the old DVD DTS has better 5.1 audio! This is outrageous. I consider this a defective product, so buy at your own risk...

Sean was the best Bond, but George Lazenby brings an refined understated performance that I Liked. I also liked Telly Savalas as the bad guy. He is the best
