Hear your music? So does everybody else

don't get me wrong. These headphones sound amazing. You will love hearing your music pounding through these headphones.. But so will everybody else around you. They do great at keeping the noise out of what you year, but they dont keep the music in and away from everyone else. If you listen to explicit music beware, the people around you will get offended because they can hear everything your listening too.

These studio headphones are the best thus far. Just to address a concern people have about the rechargeable battery, I recommend buying the geek squad protection! That way you don't have any worries. Anyway these are perfect for traveling especially on long airplane rides. The noise cancellation blocks out crying babies and the loud engine noise. The headphones have a great balance so that the bass gives a nice punch but isn't too overwhelming. Another thing is the size of these new studios. With the older studios I shyed away from them because of the size. I am a female with a smaller head so the studios looked and felt humongous on my head. These new ones are much more comfortable and the size isn't overwhelming. The build of the headphones are much improved but the plastic make still doesn't seem too "sturdy" and are a fingerprint magnet. As long as you take care of the headphones and don't rough around with them they should be fine. Also the fingerprints wipe off really easy with a cloth. The price may feel like a little much but it is what it is. You get what you pay for. Style and quality come at a price. All around these are very nice and I'm really satisfied. Hope this review helps anyone that is a little hesitant with purchasing.

I was a little reluctant to spring for these because I am so often disappointed in head sets that are so stylish. So far these have over delivered. The music is so crisp. The design is pretty spectacular. I like the way they make the cables and accessories so convenient. I was hoping for great sound but I was not expecting the level of noise cancellation that really adds to the overall audio experience. Very pleased with these.

just got these headphones in the mail and fire them up right away. Great sounds and comfortable. I can see them getting them a little rough on the top cushion while wearing them for a while but not a problem just take them off for a bit or re adjust them

I got these headphones for Christmas a few years ago, and they still work perfectly fine. I put them back up in the case that came with it after every time I use them. I've used them while traveling, while at soccer games, and in class. I really like the sound quality, but sometimes they hurt my ears due to the heaviness of them, mind you, I have very small baby ears.

    After Only a Year

So I was not to excited that the wife went out and spent almost $300 on headphones but I apprecired the gesture very much. With that said the sound is, no doubt, great. The material not so much. After only a year the headphone material has separated showing the foam underneath. The plastic near the ear pads has started cracking like an old car's dashboard after years of sun exposure. I received an estimate to repair of $157 and declined knowing that I could get a very decent set of headphones for that money from another manufacturer. The hype was not worth the money. Considering I only used these headphones at night, just before going to bed, I was vey displointed that the material would start doing what it did. The average use per night was maybe an hour. So the material started going bad after only 365 hours of use. Not good to me. Hope yours last longer.

    Improved Comfort and Sound

I am not an audiophile. I am just an average consumer, a teacher (I love using Beats in a coffee shop or even at work when I'm grading or lesson planning for long periods of time), and I also use my beats when I play video games. I have been using the original Beats Studios for a while now, but I've got a problem. I have a big head (size 8 in fitted hats, for reference). The original Studios press against the side of my head to the point that I get a headache if I wear them for more than a few minutes. I decided to get the new Studios because I have heard that the comfort is much improved with them. In only 24 hours, however, I've debated returning them. Here's why: I used the Studios for about an hour right out of the box, as the fuel gauge indicated the battery was full. I got out my old studios and conducted about an hour's worth of sound comparisons just to see if I could notice a difference in the range, the sound quality improvements about which I have read so much, etc. I used a few different songs - bass-driven rap, indie (specifically for the twangy guitar highs), and a song by a quartet of singers with an ukulele. Within these parameters, I was able to get a good feel for the range of audio capabilities of the new Studios alongside the my old pair of the originals. The improved comfort stood out right away, which was great for my big head. I can wear them without getting a headache. The sound of the vocals in the songs, however, slightly annoyed me. In the new Studios, the vocals sound like they are coming through a tin hallway. I'm not talking about reverb here, but more along the lines of a compressed or filtered effect that I would use on my guitar. On the upside, I feel like I am standing right next to the singer in the studio, if that makes sense. I've read that this is the experience for which Beats are made, anyway, so perhaps they did a great job here. The bass has a nice punch to it without overpowering the rest of the music. I do feel that some of the background sounds (such as guitar and synth sections in the indie song) slightly disappeared in the new Studios when compared to my old ones (I had both pairs on and kept switching the cable between the two for an immediate comparison. And, clearly, lots of free time). If the new Studios were my first pair of Beats, I'd probably be blown away. Even without the cable plugged in, you can turn on the "white noise" noise cancellation feature. I tried this next to my old, buzzing refrigerator and the Studios delivered enough noise cancellation to block it out (talk about real world application!) and I personally like the sound of the white noise. You can't hear it when the music is playing, either. Some reviewers complain about a "hiss," which I am assuming is the same thing. To each their own. Unfortunately, the very next morning (literally twelve hours after I purchased them on the day prior) when I decided to use my new Studios again, they would not turn on. I tried plugging in the audio cable, which initiates the auto-on feature, pressing and holding the fuel gauge button to manually turn on the noise canceling feature without the audio cable plugged into the headphones, and charged them from multiple outlets around my house just to be sure. No luck. So I packed them all back in the box, got out my receipt and was just about out the door to return them when I looked online to see if anyone else had a similar issue - that is, brand new, three-hundred dollar Beats Studios not working less than twenty-four hours after opening and using them for the first time. Sounds ridiculous, right? Luckily, I found the Beats page with directions for resetting the Studios. I figured I might be able to save myself a drive and having to wait in line for customer service, so I unpackaged the Beats (again, although it was not as suspenseful as the first time) and held the fuel gauge button down for ten seconds. I hadn't held it for a full ten seconds when I first realized they weren't working earlier that morning. When I released the button, the LEDs lit up white, and then one red LED lit up, and they were back in action. I've been listening to them for the entirety of this, my first ever online review of a product, comfortably and loudly! I could not have gotten any closer to returning the new Beats Studios, but I am (I think) glad I am keeping them. I still have fourteen days to decide, but I'm leaning towards keeping them. The only thing that will influence that decision is seeing how they hold up after depleting the battery for the first time, and if there are any other ridiculous issues for such an expensive pair of headphones. Overall, the sound of the new Studios compared to the old is different - I don't know whether I prefer it or not. More importantly, the ear cups and overall comfort are improved, and that alone is a reason for me to keep the new Studios over my old ones. I don't really like having to unplug the Studios every time I want to get up and do something, which is how they turn on and off. However, holding the fuel gauge button for a few seconds turns them off without having to unplug the cable from the headphones. Also - in the Best Buy Studio Beats video, the saleswoman demonstrates the auto-on/off feature, but says that it works when you unplug the cable from the device rather than the left ear can. This is faulty. The cable needs to be unplugged from the headphones themselves. Likewise, even if the cable is not plugged into a device, and you plug it into the cans, it will turn on the noise cancelation (white noise). Best Buy should probably fix that video. Again, I am just a normal consumer. I play guitar, so I am used to dialing in highs, mids, and lows on ridiculously expensive guitar equipment and effects pedals, so I know what I like in terms of music. That said, this review is simply about what I like, and what the first twelve or so hours were like for me and my particular pair of Beats Studios. Not everyone who likes Studios is looking for the same thing. Again, I am not an audiophile; I just like having a nice set of noise-cancelling headphones, and as long as the Studios continue to function as well as they are, I will be happy with them.

    Decent Sound, WAY overpriced

While these headphones sound pretty good for certain genres of music (rap & hip hop), they are lacking in so many categories. Primarily, the price for what you get is terrible. They are constructed of cheap plastic that is known to break over time, wires/cables that are garbage, and sound quality that is mediocre when compared to the likes of other brands for the same or considerably less money. They wont even advertise specifications on their website because they know they are under-engineered; this is particularly embarrassing... The ONLY info you can actually find anywhere on the internet is their frequency response which is not impressive at all. Beats Studio($300) : 20hz - 20,000hz V-moda LP2($200) : 5hz - 30,000hz ...wow. That explains why they don't advertise their specs. Another category where Beats falls short is construction. Made almost entirely of cheap plastic, they are known to break over relatively short periods of time. I, as well as a few friends can attest to this. The Studios I purchased did not break on the outside, but were snap, crackling, and popping within a month. Annoying white noise is present as a result of their build-in amplifier and pointless noise-cancelling features that should NEVER be included in "Studio grade" headphones. While they have a decent warranty policy, companies such as bose and V-moda have far superior ones. All in all, these headphones sound OK, but not anywhere close to where they should be for the price. This high price point is probably a consequence of the over-marketing/advertising they do. If your looking for style and don't care much about sound quality or durabilty, these headphones are for you.. I think thats the main demographic for Beats anyway - people with lots of money to spend on a fashion statement.

I have to admit i was skeptical going in to my local best buy. I had heard so many good things about these headphones yet so many bad. I figured out that these people that were hating on beats are just skullcandy fanboys that cant afford beats. This was a great buy not are they only great sounding, but they look good too. Great job Dr.Dre.

Over the Ear Beats are all great... Amazing sound and well constructed for long term comfort, but I prefer wireless. I love the product but just did not want the hassle of a wire so I exchanged them for the wireless.
