Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad is about a band, but at the same time it is about the main character, Koyuki Tanaka and the trials he goes through. It is an exceptional telling of Koyuki's dull life until he meets Ryusuke, and the band Beck- and music in general- comes into his life. The story is amazing and the voice acting is as well. Koyuki is supposed to have an amazing singing voice, and Funimation did an excellent job choosing a voice actor that has a great voice (Greg Ayres) to portray him. While this disc doesn't include much about the band- yet- the start of it is there and the story gets off to a quick start. The pace is a bit fast but not too much so. The music as well is fun to listen to, even on its own without paying attention to what's going on. The disc contains the first five episodes and a guitar pick as a bonus. If you have read the manga it's based on, you'll be pleased as it stays pretty close. All in all this disc is definitely worth owning.

    Possibly one of the best...

I originally saw this in Japanese and thought "They could never translate this into English because they speak both Japanese and English to begin with." But I decided to buy this and boy, was I surprised. Funimation has outdone themselves when dubbing this little gem. Except for a few minor characters, all the dubbing was done excellently. My only problem was an excessive use of the F word in almost every episode (watch out for Chiba, he's got a loose mouth). No other form of media has ever made me want to go out and play a guitar. The music is great and you just can't help but be connected with the characters. Go out and buy this...now.
