Bought this speaker as a studio monitor. While there are better speakers out there. This one does a great job for the price. I guess value is the key word.

I like hot spot monitors because they are light weight and maneuverable. I play drums in a rock band and because of its size and weight, I can mount it on a stand closer to my ear, instead of using a floor wedge or the very expensive in-ear monitors. I used to use a passive non-powered hot spot and the sound was much better than this. However, if you want a powered hot spot, with a built in equalizer, than this can work. The only thing I don't like about it is the quality of the sound is not as rich and full as my non-powered one. I guess that's the sacrifice you make for having it powered and compact.
