I paid way to much money for this, and it's only because a few manufactures make these cables right now.

Ignore the negative review above. That guy decided to write an explanatory on USB C/Thunderbolt 3 Cables and stated it will not run max speed of 40 gbs. The specs clearly say max speed is 20 gbs. If he did not read it he should not post. If he did read it then he would know 20 gbs is what it advertises and that 20gbs cannot support 5k monitors and if he did not know that he has no business attempting to explain cables to us. (He should also know the cables he is looking for would have a much heftier price). Ignore his passive and active information also. Even if the cable was .5 it would not properly support 5k. If you need this cable for a 5k display get one that supports 40gbs. That is all there is to it. If you rate using it to charge or connect peripherals this cable is super fast, and no one at this time even makes a drive that can take advantage of the cables 20gbs capability. It would be hard to find any peripheral doing more than 5gbs max. So again, unless you are connecting to a 5k display, this cable is perfect and will work well in the future also as we are a year away from peripherals that can hit its top speed.

Description is wrong. Passive TB3 cable = 20Gbps

There is nothing inherently wrong with this cable, BUT I do want customers to be aware that Best Buy's product description is WRONG and MISLEADING and I don't want customers to purchase this without knowing it's true capabilities. All Thunderbolt 3 cable are not created equal. There are 2 types of cables - Passive and Active. I will explain the difference. PASSIVE Thunderbolt 3 - These cables are only capable of delivering 40Gbps speed if they are 0.5M or less in length. 1M (like this cable) and 2M cables are only capable of delivery 20 Gbps. This is important to keep in mind for a few reasons: 1) "This cable" can NOT run a 5K display as Best Buy's description claims because it is 1M passive cable and can't deliver the required bandwidth to drive a 5K display 2) Not an ideal choice if you plan on hooking up high speed SSD raids, for example, because real world speeds will top out between 1300 MBps - 1500 MBps. (Similar to TB2) ACTIVE Thunderbolt 3 - These cables are capable of delivering the claimed 40 Gbps at 1M and 2M lengths because they have special chips built into each end that allow them the highest possible data transfer speeds over longer distances. I like to think of these chips like signal boosters that are often used when a really coaxial cable is required. Without those boosters the signal degrades, similar to these cables speed loss over longer distances. 1.) These cables are REQUIRED to run a 5K display at this time (unless you are using a 0.5M or less passive cable. In summary - Best Buy's information about this "Passive TB3 Cable" so do not buy it if you want to use it with a 5k display or want the fast 40 Gbps connection for high speed storage.
