If the base for the phone charger were less tilted the phone would probably charge without removing it from the case, as the magnet isn't strong enough to hold the phone at that angle.

AirPods Do Not Charge Correctly

After a few months of usage, AirPods did not charge roughly half of the time, despite the LED light indicating the device is charging. Not worth the money.
