Waste of time and money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really hoping that the reviews that I read online only applied to a few rogue devices. But, having spent the last 2 hours trying to set this up, I sadly have to agree - this is a piece of junk. The network kept dropping when I was trying to set it up. When I was just about to give up on it, it popped up with a message saying that the firmware needed to be updated. So I clicked on that, thinking, naively, that that might improve matters. Instead, it locked up my phone on me. I will be bringing this back to Best Buy tomorrow. Belkin used to make good equipment - I don't understand why they are willing to destroy that good reputation by selling junk like this... Anything for a quick buck, I guess. But it will be the last buck Belkin will make from me.

Handy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I set it up so that whenever someone walks through the front door, the floor lamp at the end of the dark hallway would turn on. The motion detector is sitting on the floor in plain view; I'd prefer if it didn't have a long cord attached and just plugged into the socket like a nightlight or something. I also control it with the iPhone app, which seems to work as it should, but other people here have Android phones, which (to my knowledge) is not supported.

does what it says
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use it so I can control my kids watching TV. They have to ask me to watch TV. One thing though is you have to have an iPhone or iPod IOS device to use it. Well, you can have another phone ,but you can't use the app. If you have an android phone or another cell phone, you can use tfttt.com website to create a "recipe" that will allow you to send a text message to a number that will turn on and off the device plugged into the box.

Need more of these!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love this device. It may take a bit of work to get it going, but it's well worth it. Depending on the season this serves different purposes in my home. In the summer it runs the AC and using IFTTT and my Nest theromstat, automates turning the AC on and off depending on the temperature in the house. Talk about a cheap central AC workaround! In the winter/spring it's automating the lights for my indoor hydroponics garden. Definitely will be buying another soon.

A cool product for home animation.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is pretty simple in function. I use two of them to control lamps throughout our house. The only thing I dislike about the product is that you have to either press a button on the device to turn the lamp back on OR you have to use the mobile app, which can be slow...or non-responsive at times. Otherwise, the product does exactly what it says.

Great device for home automation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used my switch to turn lights on and off while on Vacation and window AC units in the summer, but the best thing now is the If That Then This (ifttt.com) service now supports the WEMO system so now I can do things like link a switch connected to an window AC unit to turn on when my Nest Thermostat gets above certain temperature.

Quirky
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup sucks. I suggest you reset the thing before you even try to set it up. Once I got passed the hour trying to configure it to the wifi, then it worked well. It has a very loud CLACK sound when it turns in and off, so make sure you can live with that first.

Worst product I ever bought in my life.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is , by far, THE worst product I ever bought in my life. Plugged this in in a normal socket, it is supposed to start flashing orange-and-blue once it is ready to set up. Nope. Did not do that. Just kept flashing ONLY orange. I waited about 20 mins, then plugged it into another socket. Same story. ( I know for a fact both these sockets work, I change my phone etc. with them every day ) . Downloaded their app, but of course it didn't see this piece of junk. This thing failed at the first step, I could not even get to later steps of connecting to Wifi. Returned it 2 hours after I bought it. Now that's a record I think.

Doesn't Work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this in store as an experiment.. I dickered with this product for several hours and tried various things to try and make this device work. I finally placed it in a socket 12 feet from my Belkin router and in direct line of site and it still won't work. I'm glad that other people are overjoyed with this product but, due to my experience I can't recommend this device to anyone.

Great Concept - Very poor Performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Out of the box the instructions are simple and with one minor hiccup I was able to connect the wemo to my network and access it from my Motorola MotoX (running KitKat Android OS). The bad. The App is buggy at the very least. Occasionally opening the app my wemo device is not listed. Their is a refresh button which is sometimes responsive and sometimes not. When the refresh is responsive, occasionally the wemo device shows up, while other times it is stuck "thinking" and will continue indefinitely (I have gone to bed and woke up and it was still attempting to refresh). In the app when it is stuck on a command such as refresh, the only way to interrupt it is to kill the app and restart. I have never been able to schedule "rules" (e.g. on at sunset/off at sunrise). It locks up most times and if it does not, then the save button is unresponsive sending the app into the death spiral requiring the app to be killed and then re-started. I have tried installing on our Ipad and ran into the same 'bugginess', so I do not think it is an OS issue. I went to the Help page and some of the help FAQ's have no answer. It seems as if the easiest part of the product was an afterthought... as the plug by itself performs well.

Not reliable and difficult to set up motion switch
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got these devices in June 2013 as a gift. I got a standalone switch and a motion sensor/switch combination. The standalone switch was fine, though it failed after a few months & had to be replaced. The motion sensor was difficult to set up. With tech support, got it going. When I had to unplug it to relocate it after about 5 months, I could not get it to work. I have spent close to 20 hours on the phone with overseas tech support to no avail. Now, last night, after two hours with a senior tech person, I was told there is a fix/patch that needs to be done, & there is no estimated completion date. So I have useless hardware. Best buy won't take it back. Belkin won't either. Belkin will replace a defective switch, but it's not defective, only waiting for a fix that is who knows how far off. DO NOT BUY THIS!

Can I give it negative stars?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing did not even begin to work for me. I guess some people are able to get it to work, but I am skeptical about the score it gets on Best Buy. If you look at the reviews on Amazon, it gets a much lower score, and there are many, many more negative reviews. Buyer beware. Maybe you will get lucky and it will work for you. But I don't think the odds are in your favor. It's too bad. It's a great product idea. Just not a very good execution. And it seems to me it's really not up to Belkin's usually pretty good quality standards. They seems to have a lot of experience with Wi-Fi networking, but this product is extremely flaky.

setup not possible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cannot connect wifi on iphone to both wemo and home wifi network. Based on app store reviews, I suspect the wemo app is not compatible with the latest Apple iOS. If Belkin can't keep up with iOS upgrades, I can't recommend this product.
