i'm a swords and sandals genre guy. love the epics. alexander, 300, troy, spartacus tv series etc. if you enjoy those movies, you will enjoy this, don't let the critics dissuade you from giving this movie a chance. i never saw the original ben hur and went into the store picking this up as a blind buy and was genuinely surprised by how fun the movie was. i really enjoyed it and you will too if you just give it a chance :)

This is a great movie. However, it pales in comparison to the original with Charlton Heston. I just liked the original movie better. The lack of a five star rating was the dragging in the development of the family characters. Otherwise, this movie is, as I stated, "Great."

Don't believe the poor reviews this beautiful film received upon its release! This film is based upon the original book "Ben-Hur: a Tale of the Christ", published in 1880, can you believe it! And it is actually a truer telling of this impressive story than the better known 11 Oscar winning Charlton Heston classic from 1959. Too bad the theatrical 3D showing didn't make it to this blu-ray release.

All the betrayal and thirst for revenge, and all its brutality, ultimately help highlight the movie's heartening message: that love and forgiveness have more power than a thundering horde of chariots. (But those four-horsed chariots are pretty cool, too.)

This movie was a different take on an old classic, but it was also much more believable than previous movies about Ben-Hur. There were some slow sections, but overall it was a pretty good movie. Once again, the graphics keep getting better all the time.

Enjoyed the movie and don't understand why people were so critical of it. It was a great depiction and did honor to the original Ben Hur movie. I'll be watching it again and sharing my comments with anyone who may have an interest about the movie.

This is good if you have not seen the old version. It's just about expectations. If you saw the old version you can understand. I was expecting something else. They changed the story a little. So, that tells me that the first one is unbeatable.

I am among those people who have seen the original Ben-hur (1959) version. In my opinion - The new version was very well done and personally I prefer the new one better than the original. Not to say the original wasn't good, but it moved a little to slow for me. I guess I prefer a faster paced movie sometimes. Overall, I would recommend the original and this new one!

I know it did not do that well at the box office but my wife and I enjoyed it. No big sex scenes and explosions or crude language... But a good story line interesting, good actors and a moral. Need more like this

More realistic view of Ben Hur tale and out come. But the Christ and Christianity integration is weak and does not blend well. It sort of disappears at the end of the movie. There are also lose ends at the end of the movie....

I didn't see the first Ben-hur. Most reviews that were negative stated that it wasn't as good as the old movie. I think it was darn good on blue ray. Graphics were great and story line was ok for what it is truly about.

A not so bad remake of one of the best movies with the best chariot race scene. This movie comes close but falls short to its predecessor. Great fight scenes and all that said I would rate it a 8 of 10 as a great movie.

This is a very different version of the story made famous by the Charlton Heston classic. More gritty and not nearly as grand in scope or production, it nevertheless is entertaining and somewhat provacative in its telling. Although I had heard there was less emphasis on the Christ story, I found that this was not really the case and that was a pleasant surprise. Overall the acting was just Ok. I did like the added back story of Juda and Marsalas that was missing in the 1958 version. It added to the relationship with Juda's family, especially his sister which is important to the betrayal that occurs. A worthy effort.

I actually saw Ben-Hur in the theaters and really enjoyed it! In away it's just as good if not better than original. Not as long and it tells a lot more about the events, and more scenes of Jesus which is kind of what the book is about. I thought it turned out better than I thought it would. I got great deal it's under $15

It's not the 1959 epic but for what it is, it is an entertaining movie. IMDB has it at a 5.7 rating but I would move it up a bit and put it in the 6.5 to 6.9 range. The chariot race is very well done.

Had modest expectations thinking it was another remake of a classic. Pleasantly surprised as the story line kept us interested beyond the action scenes and special effects. Above all, the wife loved it.

I always liked the original movie with Charlton Heston and I thought I might not like this one but a friend highly recommended it to me so I bought it on sale at Best Buy and the whole family really enjoyed it. There are some changes in this one but if you liked the first one I think you will enjoy this movie too.

I enjoyed watching this movie. It was tough to watch at times because it was kind of sad. But in the end it was all good. I think there's lessons to be learned about betrayal and redemption in this movie. I know a lot of people compare it to the old movie because it is a remake, but I think it was well done.

I purchased "Ben-hur [includes Digital Copy] [blu-ray/dvd]" because I was around when the original movie was released. The original was a super hit. This version not so much, but it has it merits. If you did not see the original version, I would recommend doing so. The current movie uses a lot of green screen and computer graphic techniques to create the imagery in the movie. The story line is interesting, but makes light of the crucifixion, which is an injustice in itself. If you take it as a just an interesting story, you should actually enjoy it.

Better than I expected. I'm a Charlton Heston fan but Jack Huston could hold his own. This movie was a little bit off script from the 1959 original Ben-Hur and the chariot race was awesome.
