I recently had the opportunity to extensively test the BenQ SW270C photography monitor, and as a professional campaign and brand photographer, I focused on its performance in crucial areas for advanced photo editing and color manipulation. First and foremost, the grayscale performance, gamma performance, and color accuracy of this monitor are exceptional. As a hardware-calibrated monitor, it offers top-tier performance across various calibration standards, including sRGB panel native and rec 709. Utilizing the Calibrite color checker display plus, I achieved consistent results with a luminance of 80 nits and a D65 white point. The transition from Palette Master Element to Palette Master Ultimate software has notably enhanced calibration speeds and user experience. While the contrast ratio falls slightly short of the advertised 1000:1, ranging from 600:1 to 800:1, the minimal IPS glow ensures an immersive editing experience even at maximum brightness. In terms of connectivity, the monitor offers essential ports such as DisplayPort, HDMI, and USB-C alt mode. However, where this monitor falls short is in HDR performance. Limited to HDR10 support, the presentation lacks the vibrancy and contrast required for HDR content creation. With a maximum brightness of 300 nits, it fails to meet the minimum VESA certified HDR compatibility standard of 400 nits, resulting in subpar HDR editing experiences in applications like Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. On the other hand, the color gamut coverage is exemplary, with 99% Adobe RGB, 97% Display P3, and 100% sRGB performance. The 10-bit color depth via 8-bit plus FRC ensures smooth gradients without noticeable banding. Adjusting the sharpness level to four optimizes clarity without haziness around edges or text. In summary, the BenQ SW270C is an outstanding monitor for beginner photographers and enthusiasts alike, offering superb grayscale performance, color accuracy, and connectivity options. However, its HDR capabilities may not meet the expectations of advanced users seeking precise HDR editing workflows. Overall, I highly recommend this monitor for its exceptional performance in critical editing tasks, making it a valuable addition to any photographer's toolkit.

If you process photos, you don’t know what you are missing if you don’t have this monitor. I’ve used some high end LG IPS monitors that are calibrated monthly but don’t compare to the quality of display, perfect mechanical calibration and comfort in the eyes over long periods of photo processing.
