A fairly accurate view of Bessie Smith and the trials and racism against black performers in the 1920-1940's. Should be seen by everyone interested in how black music has evolved from African rhythms to jazz and blues music to R&B, hip hop, and rap. A good historical perspective.

This was a decent movie Queen Lateef s' performance was excellent but the movie did not tell the whole story. They skipped right over the tragedy of her death and the way she died, I fell that this was important to her whole story.

The Queen's performance in "Bessie" is worthy of an Oscar. She really brings the live of Bessie into clarity by giving strong convincing performance. I watched it twice over two days because it was just that good.

If you are interested in early blues singers this is a good movie to watch. Queen Latifah does a good job portraying Bessie Smith, a leading artist of her day, who did it her way.
