The cord appears to be well made vs cheap as seen in many other stores. Plug, socket and cord itself are robust. I needed one which would lay flat and straight for intended use - along a wall/floor edge. Though I had concerned the tight coil as packaged would lead to issues trying to lay it straighten and require covering or securing in place else an eyesore or tripping hazard. But with minimal shaping, it remained straight. I will buy again if I need another high grade extension cord.

As far as 16 gauge extension cords go, this Insignia is pretty high quality. It comes with your standard warning labels, but everything is fairly easy to remove, leaving a solid black extension cord. I won't say this is a rarity, but between all the orange, white and green extension cords I have, it's nice to have something that blends in with it's surroundings.
A closer inspection reveals the cable is of the originating manufacturer I-Sheng, who is well regarded in this industry. If you have a desktop computer, it's very possible the electrical cord itself comes from them. The cable is marked SJTW - S/Service, J/Junior, T/Thermoplastic, and W/Weather approved. The cable is also rated for 105C and 300V. Wire type is 3x1.31mm^2 (16 AWG), and most likely braided, given the flexibility of this cable. Finally there is a VW-1 moniker adoring the cable which marks it as flame retardant.
Obviously with three conductors, this cable is grounded - which is helpful for appliances, computers, and anything else that requires the grounding cable. The ends themselves are standard male/female type B plugs. Overall the cable is rated for 15a, and in my usages I never saw it get much warmer than ambient (although I'll admit, I didn't try to max out 15a over it for a long period).
Overall this seems like a quality cable that would serve as an extension cord for smaller appliances, and certainly blend right in a computer setup.

Recently I got to use this extension cord to help start my snowblower after we got a massive amount of snow. Since my blower takes a cord plug I was easily able to use this one to do the job.
Seeing as it is an indoor outdoor cord this made it all the better as I didn’t have to worry about accidentally shorting out or frying.
Since it’s 12 foot there was plenty of length to get the job done perfectly as expected. I was used to using an 8 foot cable before this one so the extra length was much appreciated and allowed me to position my snowblower at a more ideal spot to start.
Sometimes there is cables that are hard and not pliable, this one is not that thankfully so it doesn’t easily get tangled up. Being 16 gauge it can safely draw a decent amperage and there is plenty of warning tags and info on the packaging when purchased. Actually it’s very difficult to remove one of the main warning labels which is probably a good thing lol makes you read it.
Anyway no matter what you need one of these for this is your ticket for best bang for your buck.

This is a great all around extension cord. It can be used either indoor or outdoor. It's 12' length offers great placement flexibility for any device you need to place in a location of your choice. The black color allows it blend in with other cords and not draw attention to itself.
It's capable of handling 13A (although the Best Buy web page, and the cable itself says 15A. I'm guessing this is for just the cable and the entire assembly is rated at 13A). At any rate the 16AWG wire is large enough for most general applications. The cable itself has an SJTW rating, meaning that it's rated for 300 volts, hard service cord, thermoplastic insulation (resistant to heat and moisture), and weather resistant.
One of the things I like most about this cord is that even though it's a substantial wire gauge, it's very flexible and easy to run. It also allows the cord to relax it's shape and not have permanent curves and kinks in it. It lays nice and straight without much effort. Something that I feel is really not emphasized enough on the web page and packaging is the fact that this cord has a UL Certified classification. Try finding that on any cord offered by the Large Warrior Woman site. This is something that's missing on a lot of electrical products lately, and it's really worth mentioning that UL has certified this extension cord.
The ends are molded in place and have a very solid feel. They plug in easily, but tightly and the mating connector fits very flush and tight. In short, this is how every extension cord should be. I can honestly find nothing to complain about on this cord, and on top of all the great features it has, it's reasonably priced to boot!

Quality 12ft+ Cord

I needed an extension cord that I could use both indoors and outdoors for a couple of upcoming projects that wasn’t massive. The main use would be to run smaller devices, nothing too power intensive but possibly outdoors. I didn’t want a crazy long cord, like a 25 ft or 50 ft cord, as that would leave me with a bundle of cable that is a tripping hazard and in a tangled mess by the end of the day. I found the Best Buy essentials 12 ft 16ga Indoor/Outdoor extension power cord, which fit my need.
Pros:
- Good quality.
- Little longer than 12 ft.
- Works indoor and outdoor.
Cons:
- None
Use:
Honestly, it’s a cable that works well for what I needed it to do, no complaints. I didn’t find any issues when inspecting the cable before use and had no issues while using it. The plugs both look good, with no loose bits or bent pins. The cable is 16ga, which is plenty thick for most medium duty tasks in and around the house.
The 12 ft length is perfect for powering lights to the middle of the basement room or powering a projector out on the patio, at least it will be during the warmer nights once the temperature gets nice. The actual length measure to 12.5 ft with some give, which is good as usually the cables are shorter or just at the stated length.
Conclusion:
For what I needed, the Best Buy essentials 12 ft 16ga indoor/outdoor extension power cord is perfect. It’s long enough to run between the outlet and device without leaving a pile of cables while being good for indoor and outdoor use. If you need a decent extension cable for connecting devices, this is a good option.

This extension power cord is designed for both indoor and outdoor, which gives versatility for multiple home use scenarios. As per Bestbuy’s website rating, it can sustain up to 15 amps of electricity, which translates into 1800 watts of power when using typical 120 volts current. That is enough for operating most home appliances. A power-hungy PC with the latest GPU, for example, would not have any problem with using this extension cord. It is prudent, however to use the extension cord for a maximum of 13 amps, which is already plenty of electricity. Some people would push it to 17 amps, however, Bestbuy’s rating is 15 amps so it’s better to stick with the official rating and it is even better to be prudent, lower it down to 13 amps. This approach will ensure a much better safety operation of electrical equipment and the wire longevity.
The cable is also rated for outdoor use, which is very useful if you want to use your power washer outside the garage, for example. The insulation and quality of cable is solid and therefore should be able to withstand the environment. Overall, this is a great cable for people who wants an extension cord that is rated for both indoor and outdoor use.

Great extension cable. Its very thick and feels of great quality. Female side plug is very tight and seems to make great contact and seal (specially if you are using it outdoors this is important, for things like rain and water, while not waterproof, it goes long ways making a good seal, still I would be careful and keep it out of any rain or moisture).
The cable itself is very thick, it feels almost like those thick computer power supplies cables if you now what I mean. I like that its 16AWG and it s grounded, so any devices you have that require grounding will work fine with it. Being so thick and sturdy, its not that bendable, so make sure you can run it almost straight or with just some not so extreme bends. The only thing I would say as a con, is that the female side only has one connector, would have been great if it had 2 or 3 connectors, but I take it is designed to run well with just one device plugged to it. If you are looking for a thick, sturdy and good quality extension cable with ground, this is the one for you!

I got this cable because we have a fountain outside our porch and I needed a good outdoor cable to plug it with and this is the right one. And since it is winter now, I plugged in a string of LED lights that are on the porch to make it look welcoming and it works. I like how flexible yet strong the cable is. And having a cable that can hold up to 15A I think it will be more than enough to connect both the LED lights and the fountain and perhaps other decorations if I need so.
I also like that it is grounded with the three prongs to keep my electronics safe and secure. I like how useful it is since I can also use it in my garage when I am using my power tools. I think I will get another one for inside. Something else I like is the color, it’s black so it blends in at the edge of the porch so it hides easily.
Overall, it has been working well, it is winter and it is plugged outside and no issues with it what so ever. Most things use less electricity now so this cable can be used with different electric products so I am happy with it.

ESSENTIALS 12 ft. Power Cord

This feels like a good quality cord. It is a little stiff and not real flexible but that’s because the cord insulation feels fairly thick and not made of flimsy thin vinyl material like some cheaper cords. It’s very similar to the type of cord you get with a plug in power tool such as a drill or small power sander etc…
The plug has three silver prongs with one being the ground so it is grounded and I tested plugging the male plug into a few outlets in my house and while it’s not super tight it doesn’t feel like it’s going to have trouble staying plugged in and anything I’ve plugged into the female plug was tighter and definitely more firm so it’s not going to just slip out.
It’s only 12 ft. long so perfect to keep in the house for little jobs and easier than dragging out one my 25-50 ft. Cords out of the garage. Might be a little expensive for its length but a decent quality power cord if you don’t need anything over 12 ft.
