Must Have Adapter for Modern Laptops

I love having this adapter in my bag because I sometimes find the need for a wired network connection for my laptop, which only has 2 USB-C ports. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to use and how well it performed. It was plug and play, no drivers or software needed. It instantly recognized my network and gave me a stable and speedy connection.
The adapter is also very compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry around and store. It is one of those things I make sure to always keep in my bag for work or when on the go. The build quality is solid and durable, with a white plastic casing with a solid rubber coated cable. The cable is long enough to bend around the side of the laptop without being too cumbersome. The USB-C connector fits snugly into my laptop’s port and does not wobble or unintentionally disconnect.
I mostly use Windows and Linux based laptops. I experienced no issue with either OS. Although not specified officially, I used this adapter with Linux mint and Windows 11 at full bandwidth.
Overall, I am very happy with this product and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a USB-C to Ethernet adapter for their laptop or tablet. It is a great value for the price and it works as expected. A definite must have item for anyone with a USB-C only laptop.

Very nice USB - C to Ethernet adapter. Comes in a small package. Very sturdy and compact, nothing feels loose. Cable is short enough so its no obtrusive. One end is USB type C and the other is ethernet. Its a 1000mpbs ethernet port (ethernet cable is not included). Comes with some instructions, however its so easy to use you may not even need them. On my case, it was just enough to plug it in an available USB type C port on my laptop (its ethernet port is broken, was using just Wi-Fi) and Windows immediately detected it and was ready to work (looking at device manager it shows as a Realtek USB ethernet adapter), Windows did not ask for any drivers either.
I plugged in my ethernet cable for my 1GB fiber internet and it worked right away. I performed a speed test to check and it was within the same speeds I get on other devices with full ethernet ports/cards. Latency/ping was the same. So I'm happy to report its of good quality and as fast as any regular ethernet card. I highly recommend it if you need a more stable connection than Wi-Fi and are on the go or if you have a device that needs the stability/latency of an ethernet connection but it does not have an ethernet port. Box states it works also with MacOS, Chrome OS. An ethernet connection should always be preferred when available, specially for gaming!

Handy USB-C to Ethernet RJ45 Adapter

My 2023 G14 Gaming Laptop does not have an onboard RJ45 Ethernet connection. And this small device by Best Buy Essentials is one handy option solving that minor concern. This adapter has a pair of Ethernet status LEDs, one yellow and one green, displaying connectivity and data transfer.
Rated for high-speed communications up to 1GB, although I am currently on a AT&T Fiber 360-Mpbs plan. Speed Tests are very respectable matching my current AT&T plan uploads and downloads. Just plug and play with my Windows-11 OS.
I really like that the USB-C connector came with a clear plastic shield. But it is a tad small and it can get easily misplaced. Anyway, the shield will add a layer of protection when stored in my trave bag of assorted cables and adapters. Plus, that fact it is white in color, matching my laptop, was an added bonus (it doesn’t take much to make me happy).
RATING: A very cost-effective basic Ethernet Adapter, that functioned flawlessly, and earned a 5-Star Rating for my intended use.

This is a basic, inexpensive, fully functional ethernet adapter that provides good throughput for up to gigabit ethernet connections. It doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy, and even has convenient status lights included.
I tested on an Alienware m18 running Windows 11 and a MacBook Pro 2016 with Monterey installed. Both were using known good connections to my desktop running the server. Neither computer had any problems identifying and quickly setting up the adapter when I plugged it in.
The documentation is typical for pretty much everything now, a tiny piece of folded paper that says, “plug it in”, and offers not much else, so just in case anyone needs to know, the right light on the adapter simply shows your connection status – green means good. If the right light is not lit and it’s plugged in, you’ll want to first use another cable, then look for other issues. The left light is the transmit/receive light which normally flashes yellow when there is traffic at whatever speed you may be running with.
I do have a small complaint that the MAC ID is not printed or stickered on to the body of the adapter, nor do I see it anywhere on the cable. It would be nice to have that handy without having to connect it to a computer to view its own MAC ID.
The MacBook identifies the adapter as “USB 10/100/1000 LAN” in the network settings and a bit more detailed information reveals this is using a Realtek chip, they tend to be quite reliable. The USB connection is shown as 5Gbps, USB 3.0 standard speed.
Windows 11 (using USBView) shows the same “USB 10/100/1000 LAN” name and goes a small step further by identifying the NIC chip as “Realtek(R) USB GbE Family Controller”, also with a USB connection of 5Gbps.
I ran throughput testing with the adapter connected to a new TP-Link TL-SG105-M2 2.5gGbps switch, a Netgear GS108PEv3 managed gig switch, and I tested with direct connection between NICs on the desktop and using the adapter for the laptops to connect to my server. There was no discernible difference between the adapter’s performance with either switch and worked the same with freshly made and tested CAT5E and CAT6 cables @ 6 ft. The USB connection to the computer is USB 3.0 @ 5Gbps, which is plenty for 1000M full duplex, no bottleneck there.
I ran the tests with iperf3 at short and long test periods of 90 seconds and I tested for a full 30 minutes of nonstop use to see if it got hot from all the activity. It did not, it stayed slightly warm, but never got hot or had any flaky behaviors even on the long tests. The business end of the adapter cooled off very quickly after the forced test. For the slower speed tests, I did not have a 100 or 10meg NIC on hand, so I set my Netgear switch for 100M and 10M Full Duplex, respectively. I did not run the long test on 100M or 10M, as it seems those speeds are not going to pull the same current from the USB port, thus less heat.
10/100/1000 throughput tests:
On the Mac, the gigabit connection averaged 937Mbps through the switches or direct connected, the 100M test showed an average of 29Mbps, which is not very impressive (could have been my setup) and the 10M test came up to – wait for it – a whopping 6.16Mbps, which iirc, is pretty good for a 10M link, the old rule used to be to only expect 80% and in my old experience, that was often a big ask.
On Windows 11, the gigabit test was slower than the Mac, not able to beat an average 895Mbps. The 100M test came to an average of 60Mbps, with spikes to 90Mbps, so the 100M connectivity via Windows 11 appears to be faster and more consistent. The 10M test on Windows 11 shows a similar advantage with an average of 8.42Mbps (80%?). A quick FYI for Win11 users, NIC binding works just fine with this adapter and other connections, I had no problems with mixed connections of Wi-Fi/wired and wired/wired bonding.
All these speeds are what I would consider correct and within an acceptable margin of error due to the USB interface variable. Different USB controllers on different computers (even from the same brand) can often have small performance differences and are also affected by the load on the computer at any given time. I tried to keep my machines idle while testing. If you are getting slower than expected performance from the adapter, *if you have another port available*, go ahead and try it, you may get better results.
I do want to add a note about possible durability - The connector for the adapter is too long and offers too much leverage if pulled on, this seems like something that could torque a USB-C port rather hard if the cord got tripped on or pulled. The longer the actual connector is, the more mechanical force is applied to the directly to the port when the adapter is moved or pulled. I put in a picture to illustrate. So- be careful with your ethernet cable when you’re using this adapter. The wire is tacky and feels like it will get nice and dirty after a brief period of use if it’s being handled frequently.
Overall, I’d recommend this adapter for anyone who needs a hardwire connection for their laptop without an ethernet port.

Yes — I would recommend this adapter if you have a USB-C-only device (laptop/tablet) and want a simple, reliable way to plug into a wired network. It’s particularly useful for professional use (remote work, engineering files, video calls). If you're buying for heavy network transfer tasks or docking setups, just check that the specs match your needs.

Newer laptops no longer have an ethernet port built in. This is a must if you use your laptop for work where they require it to be a wired connection to the internet verses wireless. Easy plug and play with this adapter. No setup required. The internet speeds are great. No lag that I could tell.

This is a great little adapter. My job requires that I connect to the internet via ethernet, but my laptop doesn't have an ethernet port. This solves the problem perfectly. There are more expensive options available, but I can't imagine what they do better than this. It was cheap, it was ready in an hour, and it works. I couldn't ask for more.
