I bought this movie because of the cast; I had no idea of how the plot would unfold. I liked the story and its expression of worth at any age. I was especially struck by one line, how the hotel was necessary because countries like the U.S. outsourced the care of their elders. In a very calm way the plot slapped the face of those who throw away their older relatives as if they reach a certain age and become worthless. This movie could have become a heavy drama however, the script kept it on the lighter side, and the cast created very realistic characters who brought life to the darker moments.

    Life's Like That - and ....

A great video to put life into perspective - and bring you into the 21st Century with a great cast of actors both old and new. The visuals are great, the multi dimensional storyline presents the realities of everyday life, sometimes simple, sometimes not so simple, yet laughter is right there to take and savor - and savor my wife and I did. In fact, we liked the first edition so much we brought the next installment - Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel too! Where did I purchase both - at Best Buy - since the price best the competition, and the service is outstanding!

    Seniors are not useless

In a society where senior citizens seem to have less value and considered useless, this film is a great watch. It's a story of separate vignettes that have one common strand, the run down, misleading Best Exotic Marigold Hotel in India. Each character is at the point where they are looking for a more manageable, independent lifestyle or one that is more fulfilling. Although the change from Britain to a less modern country is depressing, the seniors prove how their experiences can contribute. I understand that a sequel is in the works.

Bought this for a gift for brother-in-law who is a senior citizen with limitations in his lifestyle due to age and health. He watches a lot of movies on his 48" flat screen blu ray, and he had not seen this yet. I just loved this movie for all the reasons I listed above. It should be a classic like Casa Blanca. I also love the fact that I could get it from Best Buy, to help them beat the "showroom" syndrome used unfairly against them by competing online sellers.

This movie was not for everyone but as an older person I found it to be intresting and entetaining since it was about retires and what they decided to do after they were all alone with out their children. The influence of the younger .Indian person was good as he seem to want to help as well as make a living for himself.

Very easy to follow and watch. British accents are troublesome to many Americans to follow, but this seems to be Americanized somewhat. A good story, I guess good enough (the studio thought) to make a sequel. It is certainly worth the low price Best Buy asks for it. Retiring Brits are lured to the hotel, and it doesn't quite live-up to the anticipated satisfaction level. The coots begin to see its charm, and a feel-good story evolves. Give it a try!

I have been wanting a copy of this ever since I saw it at the theatre. Great storyline and good to see Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith together. This was beautifully filmed on location in India. Dev Patel does an excellent job with his role!!

I'd see this movie on the video store shelf every time I went in and I just couldn't get myself to rent it. Then one day I did. I liked it so much that I bought it! You come to know the stories of retirees who have come together at this struggling Indian hotel and become immersed in the culture (or not). The hotel is run by a young man harangued by his mother to sell it. It is both moving and funny.

A fun movie experience that had a lot of older well know actors/actresses in it. Provided an interesting view of India showing some of the cultural differences caused by the growth of high-tech. Also showed the cultural clash of the older retirees and their expectations regarding their expectations and the reality of dealing with a new culture. We enjoyed it and look forward to seeing its sequel.

At first glance, this story focuses on the end of life--dreary retirement, loneliness and death in a foreign land. Granted, it has quite a bit of this. Nevertheless, we make this journey with an extremely talented cast of characters who deliver a truly bright tale. Yes, it is the end of life, the end of a type of life and the beginning of so much more.

I don't always buy BlueRay but whenever I do, I am always reminded of the stunning picture quality and sound quality upgrade from the DVD - day and night! Movie itself is a good watch - wanted to watch this one of the evenings before I watched Part II and it did not disappoint - funny in parts, poignant in others, kept me engaged - def recommend it.

I loved this movie when I first saw it at the theater. I loved it just as much when I saw it again on a flight to Europe, so much so that I decided I needed to own it! The cast is amazing, to get all of these wonderful actors in a single movie is extraordinary. Each character is full and rich and so entertaining!

I didn't quite know what to expect with this movie. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was actually pretty well done. It was fun to watch the characters discover their place in the new culture. This movie is now often priced at about what you'd pay for a movie ticket - recommend picking up a copy and adding it to your collection.

I mainly got this movie for my mom as this is her favorite type, but what surprised me was how much I really enjoyed it. It was thoughtful and and really well put together. It really helped me to see some of the plight that older people face in our society. We both enjoyed this and the sequel even more.

I've had several toasters over the past ten years and decided on this one after reading the reviews. Unlike my prior toasters, this one toasts evenly every time. Only 4 stars because I have to turn the toast time almost all the way to the right to get a good medium toast. Love the large slots and the size for my counter.
