As someone who wears hearing aids on a daily basis, I had high hopes that these would function as a secondary hearing device as a bit of a backup. Ultimately, they will serve that purpose but with limitations. There are a couple of downsides that are the reason for only three stars. I’ll begin with the plus sides. The kit comes with everything you need and then some. The hearing amplifiers, two extra rechargeable batteries, a nice charging case, cleaning tool and various ear pieces. The extra batteries are a big plus. Battery life is good, but not outstanding so having an extra set ready to go is great. The ear pieces are good but a little tricky to put on the device. The design and build of the hearing amplifiers is pretty darn close to that of my $6000 hearing aids. The controls are simple and straightforward. They are light enough and pretty comfortable. Now the down sides. There is a lot of high pitched noise when you first put them on. And even after you have them in a simple turn of your head or if your hand goes near them the noise returns. This noise is mentioned in the instructions. The suggestion of turning the volume down on them to prevent the noise does help some, but kind of defeats the purpose of the device. Then there is the static noise. This is different from the high pitched noise I just mentioned. This is the kind of background noise you might hear on a radio when the stations signal is weak. Kind of a scratchy noise. However, I will say that these do pick up voices very well. The amplification of voices a good distance from me is surprisingly good. If I can work around the high pitched noise I think these will work fine for in the house and watching tv. But as far as using them out & about I think the background noises will be to much to deal with. Just remember, they are not a substitute for real hearing aids.

Would not fit in my ears without a loud whistle

Initial impression was good. The packaging came tightly packed with a nice charging case with two hearing amplifiers, and 4 batteries inside. The case is capable of charging all 4 batteries at one time. It only took a few minutes to complete that initial charge. Biggest initial negative was that the case uses a usb micro connector. Here we are in 2022 when nearly everything charges with a usb c connector now, and this device requires micro usb. The package came with quite a few little rubber ear connectors to choose from. I selected the largest one in the package and proceeded to get them connected to the amplifiers. This took some time as they are very small and the amplifier is also quite small. I read through the manual and noted how to use the device and how to ensure a proper fit. I then tried to fit them to my ear and try them out. The fit was fine and the amplifiers did a fine enough job of resting on my ear. But I was unable to get the amplifiers to work in my adult ears without a high pitched whistle. I tried just about everything you could think of to ensure a proper fit and they just wouldn't stop unless i held my fingers up to the ear piece ensuring it fit inside my ear canal. When I did this I was able to stop the whistle and noted that sound were in fact amplified. I was simply unable to get them to work in my ears. My teenager tried them and it fit and worked perfectly in their much smaller ears. She let me know that it picked up a lot of extra white noise and you could pick out footfalls and other ambient noises much easier. She didn't have any easier time hearing conversations really. I would say they wouldn't be all bad if they fixed the usb connector and provided some more options for ear pieces that fit an adult ear.

I received these today to test. I generally have good hearing for daily function. I pass all general hearing tests. When I get into larger gatherings (restaurants, parties, etc…) I have difficulties picking up conversations at times. I got these to see if they can help. In the box is 4 styles of earliest, cleaning tool, drying case, charging case, short microusb cord, 2 extra batteries, and the 2 amplifiers. As always read the book before using, it does help with knowing how to change batteries and placement. Getting the ear tips on are a trick, they are small and clear. I had to sort of twist and poke to get the earip over the shaft, took a few minutes. For folks with arthritis or limited dexterity, could be a trick. Changing the batter does take a bit of finess, the control unit slides up, battery down, but not much to grip. Once you do it, practice again a few times and it does get better. Limited dexterity again could pose an issue. Now, the hearing amplification. First time I put them on, a lot of squelched and squeeling, the mic and output were way to close, this had a very short wire. Thay being said, to minimize thus don't turn them on until in the ear and in comfortable positioning if you can. Turning the power on and adjusting volume you can do one handed if it is sitting right in a good spot of the ear valley, but sometimes I find myself pushing buttons with the opposite side hand and holding unit with same side hand. That keeps the mic from getting to close to the output and squealing. The ear tips they show on the box, a sort of open strainer design, I found to be the better of the 4. The solid tips I felt when in the canal kept the static in my ear more, and minimized some of the natural ambient quality to sound. The solid piece made it easier to hear the static. I also felt the open pieces kept the directionally of the sound better. Getting these to sit on your ears and keeping the mic from the output is a challenge the first time, but by second and third time, it is easier. They main units are small and hid easily behind my ears. Not overly noticeable. They have a long strig of plastic they say is an adjustment wire. That hangs out but is clear, and i found i could tuck that into my ear fold also so it wasnt dangling. The wire from unit to output was minimally noticable as well. The amplification is definitely there, dialog was better. You can change between an outdoor setting vs normal, and it makes a small difference. However, watching tv minimal difference to me, and many low sounds like my jeans swishing while I walk, sitting on my leather seats of the couch, footsteps all picked up well, which is distracting. That is why these are not to be used as a substitute for actual hearing aids. Hearing aids can be tuned to enhance frequencies that a person cannot hear, this amplifies all things. I did test these in on a phone call, I had no issues, couldn't really tell application of that or not. It also didn't create a feedback loop like I feared it could. Overall, in a pinch these could get a person by a while if some hearing issues like I have, but not for hearing loss. I see how this could make things worse by further burying the frequencies missing. It is not meant in any way to bypass professional testing and a hearing aid. Having worked with small hearing aids before, all are difficult to work with because of size, these rechargeable units are nice because the type with replaceable disposable batteries are worse to work with in my opinion. I can see the utility of these, and comparing them to other amplifier options (corded with headphones, Bluetooth earpiece like ones, and feux hearing aid ones like this) this style I would say is considered premium/ luxury. You pay a premium price for the vanity of concealment. There are many in this price range, many are a bit larger, but like I said these hid well behind my ears. I had my wifecand in laws also try them on, all tucked away well. I cannot ding these for pricing, pretty competitively done. Individual rating design/look 5, ease of use, 3, amplification 3. I give an overall 3 for these. I would reccommend this only to people who have the money to burn, otherwise if occasional amplification needed and you don't need the concealment, I think the Bluetooth earpiece style ones can serve a similar function for a much lower price.

Good hearing amplifiers for general use

These are a great set of hearing aids/amplifiers for someone who's in between getting a professionally programmed set and needing something to help in certain settings. From my experience so far, they seem to work great provided you follow the instructions for fitting and using them closely. Initially I just went to use them without reading fitting instructions closely and had trouble with them working properly. They would just squeal and really didn't seem to work right. After fitting them correctly that issue resolved and they worked fine! First, thing I'll say is don't get them expecting them to sound like amplified headphones. They are not headphones and sound nothing like headphones. They definitely amplify more of a specific range of sound that's closer to human speech than anything else though they do amplify all sounds and they do that well. My mother has a hard time hearing conversations in noisy situations and these do seem to help her with that program enabled so I'll be getting her a pair. For me, I like the boost they give when listening to the TV quietly without wearing full headphones. They're much more comfortable and work well for that and pull far away sounds closer. I think a few things definitely could be better, and the first is the instructions. The book is so small it's hard to read, especially for someone older. The instructions critical to them working right should be in large print and easy to follow/read or the manual should be redone to make it easier to read and follow. The second thing is the case is HUGE. I like that it's bigger as its easy to handle and charge the amplifiers, but, traveling with these would be a joke because it just takes up too much space unnecessarily. The third thing is there is no feature to make them work with a hearing aid loop to work with your cell phone or at the very least Bluetooth or something like that. Putting a phone up to use with them on for me yields mixed results and causes feedback if not held to my ear a very specific way. Overall, I think they're good for specific uses and situations. Knowing that I would recommend it for those situations like hearing speech in noisy areas or hearing speech in distant situations like a conversation in a room with a few people and having the ability to hear louder speech in general. The product itself is good and high quality but everyone's hearing is unique so I'd recommend them in a general type sense for what they are advertised.

Beurer - HA85 Digital Hearing Amplifiers – Silver I thought this would be a great solution for my wife who constantly turns up the volume on the TV or often responds to a conversation with “What did you say?”. However, I'm sorry to say that this product turned out to be nothing more than a very frustrating experience. While it was nice to see that the package included four different size earpieces, getting a set attached to the hearing unit turned out to be totally frustrating when attempt after attempt failed to get the earpiece attached to the main hearing unit. (IMO, the connection hole needs to be a slight bit larger to make insertion easier.) After finally getting the earpieces attached, just prior to giving up, we attempted to test the units. Getting the right and left hearing amplifiers connected to the ears turned out to be another frustrating experience, since the cord on the earpiece doesn’t appear to be long enough to do it as you would expect, and there seemed to be no way to alter the length to make it easier to get the hearing part of the unit into your ear and the main part of the device into position behind the ear. We preserved and finally succeeded in getting the units awkwardly connected to the ears, but my wife heard nothing but a shrill noise while trying to test it against the TV sound. I then tried the device and again, nothing but a shrill noise. We tried adjusting the volume on both ears, as recommended, without success. At that point I gave up on the product. I obviously wouldn’t recommend this product to others.

    Beurer Hearing Amplifiers

Ok initial impressions. The Beurer Hearing Amplifiers come in a nice charging case with a pair of extra rechargeable batteries, instructions, extra tips a cleaning tool. Operation of the hearing amplifiers are pretty simple and so is the swapping of batteries. Left and right amplifiers each have a power button and volume buttons which are easy to manipulate. Now let’s get this straight these are not really hearing aids as these are just hearing amplifiers as the product describes. If you are having real hearing issues I’d suggest getting real hearing aids. If you just need a little assistance and don’t want to really invest in real hearing aids that costs thousands than this maybe worth a try. The Beurer Hearing Amplifiers do amplify the sound for the end user but not without some compromises. The sound is loud but I find it a bit “scratchy” and not soft or natural sounding. Also there is a slight hiss as it sound is being amplified. Initially there was screeching noises and I almost gave up on these but not until I adjusted the correct tips for my ears and the placement depth in my ear. I noticed if I did not put them securely enough in my ears the screeching would be present. Once adjusted correctly the screech would disappear. Overall though I’d rather not deal with those types of issues in a hearing product but your mileage may vary. I think these are a good option for maybe watching tv late night or if you need to focus on a conversation where there are not too many people around. Other than that as I stated before these are not serious hearing aid replacements.

    Hearing Challenges Resolved!

These hearing amplifiers are good for anyone with or without hearing challenges. I have been using them when I need to keep volume down on my movies because others are sleeping and it has worked out really well. The sounds is amplified so you can hear those more subtle sounds you may not when volume is down or just in general conversation when there are several people in the room and you are trying to focus your attention on someone that may not be right next to you. The sound is clear and as long as you don’t have the volume up too loud, there is no feedback. I accidentally set the volume way to far up and there was bad interference but resolved quickly by adjusting it right away. There are settings for both a loud environment or quiet one which I found to be very helpful as well. Like I said, I want to be able to hear my movie and not interrupt others. There are two sets of rechargeable batteries which is very nice. Keep one charged while using the other. I have had good luck with them lasting well past a two hour movie and into another show or two. It is easy to swap out the batteries and put the others into the micro USB charging case. The fit is comfortable. The main part of the amplifier sits behind the ear and is only minimally noticeable. The tube from the amp to the ear canal is hardly visible so someone has to be looking for it to see it. There are a few different sizes so you can find what fits and feels best for you. Overall, this has been a good addition for me and I will be using them in many scenarios where I may have some challenges hearing everything I need to hear.

I was excited to try these new Beurer Digital Hearing Amplifiers out as my hearing is not what it used to be. These hearing amplifiers are not hearing aids and not designed to replace professionally prescribed hearing aid devices. Rather, the Beurer Digital Hearing amplifiers are designed to assist in hearing things going on or being said from a distance that would not normally be heard by unaided ears. These digital amplifiers will do that for you but with difficulty adjusting them to avoid screeching sounds that will drive you nuts. The Beurer HA85 Digital Hearing amplifiers come nicely packaged and with all that you'll need to fit them to your ears, clean them, charge them with two sets (4) of rechargeable battery packs. A recharging case is provided which can also be used for storage of the extra items you may not use all the time. I wanted very much to like these hearing amplifiers as they seem well designed and sturdy. Unfortunately, I found them to difficult to adjust and use very often. Not working for me. I have tried every ear tip to get the best fit. Gone through the manual thinking I have something wrong. There really is not much to do wrong. Fit it properly for your ear, turn it on. Then adjust the volume. I can not get anything to happen but a high pitched tone to come through the ear piece. I can hear better with them out than in. I am a big man so I fitted it for my wife and the same issue is happening for her. I was thinking I may have larger than normal eat size or something, although Bluetooth headsets stay in my ears with out an issue with the default ear cups. Out of the box the experience had not been what I would expect. This weekend I will be contacting support when I have time to play with them a little more. Overall the build seems pretty solid. The ear cups are all sliced which gives them an odd feel. Getting the ear cups on the tips is not the easiest process, it would have been good to have a set preinstalled to save the hassle. There is a cleaning brush and extra batteries that charge in the charger at the same time as the preinstalled batteries. There is a USB charger cord but no plug. Based on the build and feel, I had high hopes. My hopes have not been realized.

I wasn't exactly sure what to expect when I received these. They are to enhance your hearing if you just need a little boost and you're not a candidate for a medical hearing aid device. Well, I'm happy to report that they work very well - with the right adjustments. Make sure you use the correct earbud size when setting up each device for your ear or they will squeal in your ear. Aside from the initial setup, these are easy to use. Aside from being able to eaves drop into people's conversations, these could have genuine utility as well. You can use these while watching a play or event where hearing the dialog might be challenging due to the lack of A/V or PA system. Another use would be watching TV in households with sleeping babies. These allow you to keep the TV very low while being able to hear everything. I would think bird watching and nature hikes would be a great experience as well. The headset is rechargeable and the battery lasts about 3 hours with the volume set to low. The kit includes two extra batteries and a very nice charging case that charges all 4 batteries from zero to full in about 2 hours. Batteries are secured to their charging terminals magnetically and everything in the kit has a relatively small footprint. I'm dinging a star for the lack of USB-C. Yes, you have to charge via Micro USB cable. That alone usually persuades me to pass on a product 99% of the time and I probably would've have passed on these as well if I would have known about the micro USB charging. That is of course my personal preference and yours may vary. The amps do exactly what they say and I really have no complaints regarding their performance. If you're in the market for a device to tweak your hearing up just a bit, depending on your use-case, these could fit the bill.

They were fine for a while but for whatever reason every time I got in the car they would start shrieking. Not only was the shrieking troublesome to me but those around me could hear it as well. It was hard to find a level that would help me with the things I have a hard time with without over amplifying the things that I am good with. It did help me to realize that those around me were yelling for me to hear on a regular basis. I kept having to ask them to talk softer, they found great amusement in this. They also said that I was practically whispering since I could hear myself more clearly. Over all it was a good experiment to make me realize that my hearing isn’t as good as I thought it was, but for me this was too inconsistent. One minute I could hear things I didn’t realize I was missing and the next I was covering my ears and pulling the amplifier out because it was too much. I didn’t notice any significant difference between the settings. Once they set their mind to squeaking, nothing seemed to settle it down except removing them and waiting for a different situation. But that made it confusing to everyone around me, one minute speak louder and the next, you are talking to loud.

I had high hopes that these would work well to amplify my hearing in order to keep the volume lower on my devices. The concept and quality is very good, including a charging chase with spare batteries. But that’s where it ends. The devices come with an assortment of ear fittings, but none of them were comfortable with my inner ears. The backs are comfortable and hide well behind the ear. I was not able to use the devices due to a large screeching or whistling sound. While there are instructions for dealing with this, it was centered around proper fitting of the ear pieces. I contacted the manufacturer and there are no larger fittings available. Without the loud screeching sounds, I could tell that the amplifiers were indeed amplifying the sounds around me. Unfortunately, the feedback was more detracting than the benefit from the increased sound. I am giving the product the benefit of the doubt that it would work well with the proper ear fittings. I would say that I have larger than average ear openings so this did not work for me.

Harsh distorted sound, difficult to adjust

I know the Beurer Digital Hearing Amplifier looks a lot like a hearing aid. But it's not. It says so on the box. It says so in the instructions. So what exactly is it supposed to do? Well, it makes sound LOUDER, which is what a hearing aid does. Just don't call this thing a hearing aid. Or even use it you have hearing loss (per the instructions). With that out of the way you probably are wondering, do these things help you hear better? Well, yes, technically. But probably not in a way you would tolerate for very long. Aside from the fact they are prone to ear shattering squealing feedback anytime your hands are in close proximity to your ears (including when you attempt to adjust the volume) , the sound they produce when they are working is quite unpleasant. It is very high, shrill, scratchy. In a word, artificial. Nothing natural sounding about them at all. Because the sound is totally devoid of any frequencies except those in the mid-range. Think very small, 1960s-era transistor radio, playing AM -- during a thunderstorm. Even on the lowest volume settings, there is a lot of distortion too, especially when they are set to operate in a "quiet environment." The sounds all seem to be coming out of a blown speaker. Rough and raspy. But you will be happy to know these "hearing amplifiers" do a bit better in the only other mode, for "noisy enviroments." Not perfect but a lot less distortion, hiss and squeal. I would start here if you decide to try these "hearing amplifiers." The mode is set using the power button the the device. Push to switch back and forth between the quiet and loud environments. There is a rocker volume control on each earpiece as well. The main unit fits behind your ear and then you shove the little wired earpiece into your ear canal (after finding and insert that best fits your ears. A variety of sizers are provided). I found them more confortable than most earbuds but they still wear on you over time. You use a tiny wire, that hangs out of your ear all the time when you are wearing them, to yank out the earpiece. Not very attractive. I found the controls difficult to use once you have them in place. Aside from the ear shattering feedback squeal you get every time your hands are near the device, it's hard to feel your way to correct controls. Or tell where you are in the volume range. In actual use, I found these did improve my ability to hear voices when watching TV. And oddly enough, some things that were going on in the next room over, the kitchen. My cat was in there at her food bowl, munching away on kibbles. Which I normally would not have heard at all. But with these on, it was like I had my ear right next to the bowl. A bit strange. The birds calling outside seemed a lot louder too. So yep, they really are "hearing amplifiers." But again, the sound quality is so poor, it is a bit jarring. Thin. Raspy. Unnatural. On the upside, if you need this kind of odd bionic hearing, these things are rechargable. Just set them in the case, which acts as a charging stand. A micro USB cable is provided but not a charging brick so make sure you have one of those. An extra set of batteries is provided too but I am still trying to figure out how to swap them out. The device also comes with a small tool and "cleaning capsule" for cleaning ear wax off the "hearing amplifiers." The bottom line here is if you need, um, hearing assistance, and don't want to spend the kind of money real hearing aids go for, (these are very inexpensive by comparison) the Beurer Digital Hearing Amplifer might work in a pinch. Once you figure out how to adjust them. But it is hard to imagine wearing them for long periods of time.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend
