Unboxing the Beurer HA85 Digital Hearing Amplifiers, I find the charging case, a microUSB cable, two hearing amplifiers, two extra rechargeable batteries, a drying capsule, and a cleaning brush. On first inspection, the kit looks very well made, but after multiple tries to get it to work as expected, I was a bit disappointed. Sad since I own Beurer’s Infrared Heat Lamp and use it 3-4 days a week. Well, what’s good? The charging case is sturdy and nicely constructed. It holds the two amplifiers and the two extra batteries, each with a green charging light to indicate if they are charging (blinking green) or charged (solid green). The units themselves seem well made, but the wire around the ear would be IMO better if it were solid construction. That said, what didn’t I like about the kit. For me, the wire around the ear is too short. I find that to get the ear tips fully in my ear, the amp is sitting almost on top of my ear, not behind it. I tried all four tip sizes and they all failed to fully seal in my ears, causing a loud squeal when I tried to turn them up. I could get about three-plus presses before they were too loud to keep in. At one or two, I could tolerate the noise, but they didn’t offer much amplification, so why use them? Also, any time I get my fingers close to one of the amplifiers, that one will shrill until I finish pressing the up or down volume and get my finger away from it. That makes it rather difficult to figure out what the best setting would be. Other things would be the use of a micro-USB port instead of a USBc which is much more user-friendly. And what about the drying pod? Do they sell them in the store or online? There’s no mention of where to get a new one or when to replace it. Lastly, if you forget to turn off one or both of the amps and close the case, a low whine is emitted and the first time it happened, I searched all around my entertainment center to figure out where it was coming from. So, would I recommend these to a friend? No, I’d suggest continuing their search for a more user-friendly kit. I think if the ear tips were better designed for me, this might be a four/five-star kit, but large hands and small flimsy tips don’t work well together. Then to have all four pairs not work for me, it got frustrating trying all of them multiple times.

These are super easy to use. They charge while sitting in the included storage case. Once charged, they sit behind your ear. The very small wire goes over you ear and the ear piece in your ear. There is a small antenna that sticks out a bit. I have long hair so I just let that fall in front of my ears. No one has noticed that I am wearing them. Nice! As the directions say, these are not for hearing loss. They will not help you hear what you don't hear but they will help you by amplifying the sound/voice nearest to you. As a consultant who is in a room with many others and lots of conversations, it can be difficult to hear the conversation I am participating in. Think of it as being in a room with several radios and they are all tuned to different stations. This happens in restaurants too. It can be a bit overwhelming. These hearing amplifiers help you hear the conversation closest to you. It isn't louder, just more clear because the other conversations are noise you hear but you don't focus on. Kind of like tuning out the other radios in the room and just hearing the one in front of you.

The Beurer - HA85 Digital Hearing Amplifiers - Silver offers a non-prescription, pick-me-up for your hearing for those who find they need a boost in sound. Whether you need a little more clarity to make out voices, or if you just don't want to miss the action on your TV or at the movies, the HA85 hearing amplifiers assists you in your daily routines. It is important to note that these are NOT hearing aids but rather hearing amplifiers. I found the Beurer - HA85s to be a positive solution when I am in a conference and the speaker is at a distance. Generally, I have not issues with personal conversations or in small groups, but when there are large rooms using sound systems, I find hearing clearly can be frustrating. These digital hearing amplifiers help clear up the sound and allow for balanced hearing throughout the conference. I do feel that they are a little big and bulky for daily use - especially since they are not hearing aid. The case doubles as a charger and comes with a moisture puck to help keep your device clean and dry while in the case. PROS - Beurer name and quality - Amplifies sound for hearing without a prescription or doctor's visit - Perfect for occasional or daily wear - Mostly comfortable for extended use - Case offers charging and moisture protection CONS - A bit bulky

Let me start this review by stating that I am not deaf or hearing impaired, at least not traditionally speaking, but I do have issues sorting out sounds that are of similar volume. I was very excited about this product, and it could be an affordable way for me to attend large meetings and get more out of them, as well as in the evenings, watching TV. I must say that it worked. That said, there are some downsides. The device seems to be so powerful that I also either am hearing the sound of air moving around me, or of my own blood flow. Not sure which, but it is a sound that is always present when using the device. That said, since this is a device that allows you to hear quiet sounds, I assume this is not a limitation of the device, but rather a side effect of its quality. That said, I found this device to be very useful, both in large meetings, as well as when watching movies in the evening, trying not to disturb my family. I am very happy with this product, and I think people in my similar situation would feel the same.
