Some like their fires hot. Some like their fires bright. This fire pit lets you decide each time. Fires are easy to start since there's only one way to lay the logs down. I use a firestarter, but you could as easily use some balled up newspaper under the logs. Once you get the fire started, the fan will keep the logs burning and will burn them hotter than in the standard fireplace. While this uses your fuel more quickly, it gives a nice bright and high flame which can be very pretty to look at.
When you are done for the evening, a high fan speed will also help you to burn out all the embers so you don't have to worry about leaving the fire unattended.
The only downside is that if you are using it on a deck, but legs are relatively short. They recommend you not put this directly on wood as there is little protection to keep embers from falling on your flammable deck. I put some stones underneath and felt very comfortable with it.
It's a fun gadget which fold compactly for easy portability to camp sites or other places a fire would be appreciated and safe.
