Game of the year 07 for good reason

This is the first game I have purchased for my XBox 360 that was single player only because I read so many magazine articles raving about it. I was hesitant, but I now see what the articles meant. This game was game of the year for a top gaming magazine last year for a very good reason, and it is also the first single-player only game that I would play over again!

Best FPS on the 360. Period.

Truly the best story for a FPS that is out on the market. The plasmid system along with standard weapons makes for some extremely varied gameplay. The setting for BioShock (a city called Rapture far beneath the sea) is unique in this day and age when most FPS are either in WWII or the future. Not recommended for anyone under 18 however due to language and violence.

When I first loaded the game up, I expected another generic FPS experience. Thankfully, the lights went out, footsteps rushed up behind me, and I was killed in a matter of seconds.
Set in the underwater city of Rapture, the game has you collecting "Adam", genetic material used to make you more powerful, from the "Little Sisters", little girls toting giant syringes. But in order to get the Adam, you must first take out the "Big Daddy", the drill-wielding body guards for the Little Sisters. And it's a lot harder than it sounds. The combat is great, with a wide variety of weapons and ammo types, and awesome "Plasmids", unique powers that you shoot from your fingertips, like fire, electricity, and ice, among others. Multiplayer would be epic, but sadly, it isn't in this game.
Enemies may pop out of nearly every dark corner, making you jump at every shadow that moves, but it's the audio, particularly the ambient noise and dialog that adds to the creep factor just enough to make me want to turn the lights on. The rusty 1950's signs and fading posters decorate the walls and give the game a vintage look that isn't seen in many games.
Overall, Bioshock is an above average game that practically defines what games in the current generation should be like.

Bioshock creates one of the most immersive environments I have ever seen in a game. The graphics are second to none (thanks to the Unreal Engine), and the writing is spot on. My only complaint is the lack of multiplayer; however, the single player has more than enough replay value.

THe game has a unique story and plot and setting. The combat is fun and requires skill. This game just doesn't have the .."umph" a truly great game has. I can't describe it but, to start: your just not scared. Your not afraid to rush around corners and whiz by stuff. In otehr games like silent hil and resident evil, I dont want to turn a corner because Im afraid of whats on the other side. In Bioshock this isnt so. Bioshocks combat also is missing that something special. Dont get me wrong the game deos everything well, better than most, but it just misses the crucial element, that I cant quite explain. Could be just me.. worth a try anywho.

The good:
Bioshock is probably one of the most innovative games out right now. New fresh ideas: adam, plasmids, hacking automated defense systems, weapon upgrade stations, other upgrade stations. It also has an amazing plot(with multiple endings) that will suck you in.
The Bad:
Its a relatively easy game with a lot of mapping around. Big Daddys are the only really difficult enemies to kill, especially when you find two of them, but other then that the upgraded weapons keep almost all the other enemies at bay.
The Ugly:
Graphically stunning game, use of light is amazing and the water looks almost as good as Uncharted: Drakes Fortune.

My brother rented this game for me to play (and now I am on my way to Best Buy to purchase it). I usually do not like shooter games (I prefer RPG games), but this first person shooter offers much more. You can move about freely (maybe not as much as an RPG but pretty close) and choose different paths throughout the storyline. The creatures in the game roam freely so if you come back to an area that you previously cleared, there are bound to be more creatures to fight again. The creatures are not wimpy and offer a challenge (especially Rosies and Big Daddy's) which keeps the game interesting. It is also great that you can "upgrade" your character much like an RPG as well (there are areas in the game where you can visit vending type machines and purchase upgrades to many different characteristics and add them to your "slots"). I do wish there were more slots though so you could use more of your attributes without having to run back to the gene machines to change them. Overall this is a great game, great graphics, great storyline, very imaginative creatures/people to interact with and kill. I would absolutely recommend this game.

Overall I'd have to say this is one of my favorite games for the system right now. I'm sure the PC version is great too although I've only played the demo on that format. If you are looking for a great FPS, something that will send chills up your spine and throw you for one heck of a spin towards the end look no further. This is the game for you. Even novice FPS players will find joy in this game. This just goes to show how developers, if given the time and resources can truly make a work of art. BioShock will go down with the likes of Halflife as one of the great classics of our time.
GO BUY THIS GAME!

Besides wishing this game had online multiplayer, I cannot really ask for anything more out of a game. There is a strong variety of options you can do with the single player campaign, that you will find yourself perhaps wanting to play through it again to make different decisions. Great game and I highly recommend it.

This is one of the best games in the first person shooter category. There are almost no load screens and the story is told in your ear by tape recordings throughout the game. The action is intense and your choices determine the outcome of the game.

This game is amazing. The story is just so unusual but it makes sense and is very possible for it to happen. If you like eerie zombie like games that have a good story, and awesome weapons/ "powers" you will fall in love with this game.
There are a few guns in the game but all can be upgraded. These upgrades include more power, ammunition, quicker reload, more accurate, etc. You will want to play the game to its fullest, to upgrade your weapons to your desire.
You can also in the game get "powers'. They can be fire, electric, tornado, there are so many i will let you discover them.
The game will also test your morality, will you save the little sister and become hated, but more powerful or save them and be loved, but less powerful. Each ending of Bioshock can be different depending on if you change what you do. Very much like Fallout 3's ending.
This game is absolutely amazing with great graphics that sometimes creep you out and will keep you thinking on how you are going to kill the next person. One of the greatest games of all time.
Enjoy your stay at Rapture! : )

Bioshock is one of those rare games that comes along and blows everything else out of the water. Bioshock is the spiritual successor to 1999's System Shock 2, one of the greatest FPS/RPG hybrids ever made.
Welcome to the "paradise" that is Rapture under the sea where man is entitled to the sweat of his brow. But the Rapture you find is far from perfect, the citizens have spliced their genetic material to the point that they have lost most their humanity and fight over the precious ADAM needed for continued splicing. You will be fighting off the citizens of Rapture for your survival with not only standard weapons, but you will be able to utilize the same genetic perks as your enemies, plasmids. Plasmids range from standard type powers like control of electricity and fire to telekinesis, each one altering your strategy in combat greatly. But to upgrade your abilities you will have to fight the menacing Big Daddies for access to the Little Sisters, Rapture's ADAM collectors. What happens next is your choice, do you harvest them to further increase your powers or save them?

this was one of the best 360 games that i have played... but it is confusing at times. i like the fact that the corpes's pop out of like no where. its to bad that you cant get a drill when you have to dress up as the big daddy.. i highly recommend this game to people that like shooting games
