Black 47
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one movie that anyone who has Irish Heritage should see this film. It is a revenge thriller set in Ireland in 1847 and the story is excellent. 1847 was 2 years into Ireland's potato famine that started in 1845 and lasted 6 years. The story is fiction, but the era and the conditions that the Irish people went through is part of Ireland's history. It shows what it was like in Ireland those 6 long years. Hugo Weaving also in the film showed just how good of an actor he is. This film in my opinion is great movie and well worth watching. If you're like me you'll watch it a 2nd time. A dreat film all around.

An Irish revenge western
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The story takes place during the Irish famine of the 1800's which finds people doing unspeakable things just to survive. When an Irish soldier deserts the British army and returns home, he begins a bloody quest for justice and revenge against those who destroyed his family. The movie has the feel of a vengeful western mixed with a period drama mixed with a political thriller and is well written and well acted. There are heroes to cheer for and villains to boo without being melodramatic. Recommended for adults only.

Great movie and I received it in a few days.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. An excellent portrayal of the hardships endured by the Irish population countered by the bigotry and uncaring English overlords to the plight of the "aboriginal" Irish. Also shows that during a time if nation wide starvation there was food in Ireland.

When Revenge has a place in society
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A brutal movie that you could call revenge horror, or Revenge something, anyway. A generic result of seeing the famine not as a sorrowful tragedy, but as a matter of criminal constitutional negligence, with colonial rulers creating a serf class of disenfranchised tenant farmers. Feeney (James Frecheville) the Irishman who deserts from the British army and returns to his homeland to discover the truth about how his family have been tyrannised and allowed to die in squalor and misery is great and Hugo Weaving the policeman on his trail is excellent as well.

Black '47 Blu-ray
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are of Irish heritage this is a must see Irish film starring Hugo Weaving. The story line is fiction. A Irishman who was fighting in the English Army when England was fighting in Afghanistan and learned how to fight like the Afghans. This film is period specific. 1847 was what the English call the 'Potato Famine, but the Irish call it the Irish Holocausts. It is filmed in the Connemara on the west coast of Ireland (My ancestors came from the Connemara .) You will not regret getting this film. Plenty of action and see what the Irish who didn't go to America or even England to find work and food.
