I was very happy with this CD. Blew me away at times. Excellent hard rock/metal that makes the miles melt while I drive for work. I have a pretty decent stereo, so I can say my only minor complaint is the lyrics were hard to hear/understand at times. It is not like I read the lyrics from the liner notes as the song is happening. Minor beef, as the disc is cranking it up excellent. Very happy as good metal is hard to find. Get it, got it, good!

I purchased Black Clouds & Silver Linings for $3.99, and man was that such a steal! I like Dream Theater as a band. Even without Portnoy, their founding drummer, they are still putting out great music. This album is the last to feature Portnoy, and it is pretty awesome. There aren't many songs on this album, but knowing DT and how long they make their songs, it'll take a while. But for metalheads, this is a buy.

I love dream theater and this album is so good, and definitely a must have for all DT fans.

Dream Theater has always been a favorite of mine & yes they have done it again.

The music on this CD is exceptional. Great sound and lyrics.

If you love Dream Theater, you cannot go wrong with this album.

Dream Theater's latest release continues a curve of improvement that began after the disappointment of "Train of Thought". Since then, their albums have been progressively better, culminating with what I believe is their most balanced work ever. The music retains the hard edge of "Systematic Chaos" but with the added benefit of a more mature approach to lyrics. The songs on this one are much more personal, and as a result they reflect the maturing of the band members who wrote them. This is probably also their most progressive release, as 4 of the 6 songs run at 12 minutes or longer. Musically it probably doesn't match the excellence of "Scenes from a Memory" but lyrically it is much better.

this cd is awesome from begining to end dream theater are the prog gods of metal this cd was worth buying it has all my favorite songs and all the band members shine on this studio album sure the other reviewers are being negative towards this album by saying this album is along the same line as dream theaters debut album which i beileve they got that all wrong this cd shows a seriously more mature side of the band this band has been amazing since day one onwards thanks mike portnoy james labrie john petrucci john myung jordan rudess and all the past and present and future dream theater members as well

this whole cd rocks from beging to end dream theater proves they are still the best of the best these guys make real mellow songs and make real music also and of course they blow the jonas brothers out of the water dream theater = the best of the best jonas brothers = the worst of the worst

I had defended james labrie for years but he is just horrendous in this otherwise good album... but what more is to be expected? again great because its dream theater though..

Has there ever been a bad Dream Theater album? I think not. You know it will be another amazing addition to the line of Dream Theater albums, JUS GO BUY IT!!!!!!!!

Great band has great music and lyrics on an album. Unfortunately that is not DT anymore. It feels that lyrics are just fill for the music. On previous albums, there was essence, emotion, anger, need to share through lyrics and music (Honor Thy father, The Great Debate etc). There was connection between music and lyrics. Hello, even names of instrumentals had better meaning than these songs. These lyrics are on level of their first album. Not even worth discussing. Fall of DT has been evident in last few years, it was slow decline until now. Since Six Degrees every next album has been less inspiring that previous. Listen this album on road trips or in workplace, don't try to get some sense out of James voice. There isn't one.

Totally void of anything remotely memorable or creative, Dream Theater delivers their newest album like a morning log. Not even 2 full years after their previous release, Black Clouds and Silver Linings may be more rightfully titled, "Gotta put my kids through college, man". The new album features 6 unneccessarily long songs that flow together seamlessly, but not in the way one might hope. Track after track will pass you by, making one wonder what song they are currently listening to, when the last one stopped... and more importantly, when will it end. Dream Theater must be their own greatest fans as of late, as one song is merely random snippets of other songs on other albums. They are in essence, a cover band of themselves. It was cute and original the previous 16 times, but now they recycle their own **** like Waterworld. On a disc consisting of 10 or more songs, this may go over well, but DT really gives a big smack to face of all of their Trekky fans who adore them. The lyrical content is typical of that of any random high school kid who aspires to be in a band but doesn't want to put the effort into actually learning an instrument;writing words on a notepad during studyhall. The vocal melodies are useless and ineffective. The guitar is well played but still, something is missing. Petrucci and Co meander through the disc with no peaks or valleys on the record. Myung is nowhere to be heard, and Jordan's parts are limited and lifeless. Dream Theater needs to allow the music to come to them in time, without time constraints and deadlines. They must find the drive that possessed them to become musicians in the first place, and not record another album until the spark ignites again. Holding the heavyweight title in the Progressive music genre, they must pass the torch on to inspired younger artists who are currently making great records with little or no record label support. F This makes Octavarium seem like Pink Floyd's The Wall.
