I purchased the Blink Battery Doorbell 2K+ as an upgrade from the original Blink Doorbell that has served us well for the past few years. While I initially wasn't crazy about installing a bigger doorbell (this model uses 3 AA batteries where the original only used 2), the extra battery will mean even longer battery life before they need to be changed. This newer model also supports Smart Detection (available with a Blink annual subscription plan), so I can have it alert me only when a person, vehicle, or any type of motion is detected. The camera has a taller view (first offered in the Blink Doorbell 2K) which gives you a much larger field of vision compared to the original Blink Doorbell, and the higher 2K+ resolution will provide crisper details in the videos it records. As for mounting it, we needed a Blink corner wedge mount for our initial install of the first gen doorbell and the wedge was sold separately. The new model includes the corner mount in the box, which was a nice surprise. Also, the 2K+ doorbell uses the same wedge mount as the original doorbell, so all I had to do was remove the old doorbell, wire up the new one to our existing wiring, and then it was ready to go.

PROS + Easy to install wirelessly in place of your existing doorbell or as a separate doorbell + Good video quality in light and low-light scenarios + Easy to use app with relevant settings + Comes with an angle mount in addition to a flat mount + Can connect with Alexa easily to do custom triggers like using your smart speakers as doorbell announcements/chimes, or triggering lights to turn on + Microphone and speaker quality is solid when communicating through the doorbell CONS - Subscription required for some of the features like person and vehicle detection, extended live view, and more - Some noticeable lag with live view occasionally THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT Let me start off by saying that this is my first smart doorbell, replacing a previous “dumb” doorbell that the previous owners of our home installed. I knew I wanted something wireless to allow for easier flexibility of placement and replacement as needed, and so far the Blink 2k+ has not disappointed, especially for the price. It offers a lot of features without a subscription that allows you to use the doorbell effectively without needing to go further if you don’t want, however, to unlock some of the more unique features and capabilities, it does require you to pay more as you go (more on that later). Firstly, in terms of unboxing, set-up, and install, it couldn’t be much easier. I decided I ultimately wanted to replace our existing doorbell, as it was old and worn out already, and so I was able to disconnect it from the wall, cap the wires using the included wire caps, and hide them back in the frame without much issue (beyond some shoddy wire work from our previous owners). Unfortunately, no instructions come with the device, so you do need to install the app and start set-up in order to get the install instructions, but given you can’t really use the doorbell much without the app, it is a requirement regardless. The instructions themselves are pretty simple, but they do a good job of walking you through the process. Because my doorbell was mounted on a pretty narrow piece of the wood frame, I couldn’t use the flat mount due to the placement of the screw holes. Thankfully, an angle mount comes in the box which offers a ~5 degree horizontal tilt & fit perfectly, allowing me to cover the old doorbell hole with just a couple of screws, and then mount the blink doorbell in place. The doorbell itself uses three included AA 1.5 volt lithium batteries, which so far have been doing a great job of keeping the doorbell powered. I haven’t used it long enough to really gauge battery life, especially as we enter winter here in the Midwest, but with the included tool, it's easy to unlock the back of the doorbell and replace the batteries. Once set-up, and configured in the app (pairing to my home network and phone was seamless), operation is very easy. You get a Blink plus ai plan trial, with cloud storage, vehicle and face detection, and additional features like recognizing familiar faces and summaries of events in your notifications using AI. Apart from unlimited cloud storage (which you can get from a lower tier subscription plan), most of the features, to me at least, are not required but nice to have based on your home monitoring needs. At the base level, you still get a limited amount of live views, and can use the doorbell to detect motion and interact with people through it using the included microphone and speaker. As someone who doesn’t like having many subscriptions and leased services, I appreciate that the core functionality is included and usable on its own. From the hardware side, the most important features are thankfully all great. You get a 2560x1440p (2K) video resolution with a fish eye lens that offers incredibly wide viewing angles while maintaining good face clarity. In both natural light, artificial light, and lowl-ight, the video quality is excellent, with good motion resolution and night vision in its black and white mode. The included microphone and speakers are excellent and allow you to communicate through the doorbell effectively. If you use other Alexa enabled devices, you can also set-up the doorbell using custom triggers and automations. My favorite of which has been being able to use my smart speakers as doorbell chimes so that when someone rings the bell, my speakers notify me rather than needing to buy separate hardware or relying on app notifications. You can also have it trigger lights, or other smart home triggers if you have other Alexa enabled devices. Again, if you buy other blink devices, you can also use those for chimes and connectivity to the doorbell if not using Alexa, but if you are in the Alexa ecosystem it is a nice touch. I would still have preferred at least one doorbell chime in the box to allow for full use without Alexa and the app if needed, but they are available. On the whole, I really don’t have much to complain about, especially at this price. You get great video and audio quality, smart features, and more out of the box with an easy to set-up and install wireless video doorbell. Time will tell to see how the battery life holds-up, and I wish a few more features, like object detection, was available without a subscription, or a base level of video recording without needing cloud storage, but it's hard to complain for the price, and options do exist if you want a more offline use of the doorbell. Overall, it's a solid product and easy to recommend.

The Blink Battery Doorbell 2K hardware is genuinely impressive. Once it’s up and running, the video quality is excellent. The wide angle lens captures a huge area even when mounted around four feet off the ground, and the 2K resolution really shows its value in low light conditions where you can clearly make out faces, clothing, and small details. The fact that it uses standard AA batteries is a plus, though Blink strongly recommends lithium AAs, so we’ll see how long a set of three actually lasts. The doorbell can also tie into an existing chime as long as your wiring provides 8V to 24V. I tested it and it works, but since my phone is always on me, I prefer relying on the Blink app notifications. The included angled mount is a nice touch if your wiring sits off to the side of the door where it helps the camera cover a much better field of view. One thing to note however, there’s a noticeable 5–10 second delay between someone pressing the doorbell and your phone alerting you. Physical installation is straightforward as long as you can drill into a solid surface. Brick, stucco, or concrete might take more effort, but once you get through that, two anchors and two screws hold everything securely. The Wi Fi setup, however, is where things get tricky. If you haven’t installed low powered devices before, you might not realize the Blink Doorbell 2K doesn’t support 5 GHz networks. Modern mesh systems often combine 2.4 and 5 GHz under one SSID with no option to split them, so you may have to temporarily disable everything except 2.4 GHz. It’s also not obvious that you should turn off Wi Fi on your phone during setup. I ran into the “Sync Module Core already registered” error simply because the doorbell failed to connect to Wi Fi due to the 5 GHz issue. Blink really should include a proper Quick Start Guide instead of nothing at all. One major downgrade from previous versions is the new Sync Module Core. Video storage now requires a subscription because there’s no microSD or USB option like before. If you planned on offline storage, this model isn’t for you. Another annoyance is that only one account/email can be tied to the Sync Module. If multiple people need notifications, everyone has to use the same login. Down the road, I can see this becoming a headache if someone gets logged out and needs a two factor code from the primary account holder’s phone. If that person isn’t around, you’re stuck waiting. Overall, the video quality is excellent and installation is easy thanks to the battery powered design. Getting it connected to Wi Fi and your Blink account requires patience, especially with the lack of 5 GHz support and the need to disable Wi Fi on your phone during setup. If you don’t plan on subscribing to Blink’s cloud service, this is a hard pass. But if you’re fine with the subscription, it’s a great doorbell camera.

Set up of the Blink doorbell camera on the wall was very easy and straightforward. It comes with the screws, anchors, extra wires and a template for ease of installation. It took me all of maybe 5 minutes, but I already had holes drilled from my previous doorbell. Although this is battery operated, I still connected it to my existing wiring since it was there and that might trickle charge my batteries. Note: there are no instructions on how to mount the angle bracket...good old YouTube university showed me how to do it. The inside, software portion, took a few extra minutes. The sync module needed to connect to my wi-fi, but 1st needs to be plugged in using the supplied usb-c cable and plug. I scanned the QR code on the back to register and be recognized. Next I scanned the QR on the back of the doorbell to register it and inserted the 3 lithium batteries that are also included. After downloading the Blink app the rest is just following the prompts. All of which are simple steps. I then set it up on my Amazon Echo as well as a 3rd party chime (this unit doesn't come with one.) I'm very happy with the crisp clear video and sound!
The doorbell quality is good and battery life is decent. I wish there were loval storage options as well

This doorbell is handsome, and feels good in the hand. The big button is satisfying. Setup is a breeze. It works well with my other blink cameras and the app. Now, ever since day one, it's been temperamental. I purchased this at a fantastic price on sale, so perhaps I shouldn't really complain too much... However, it's been recording half second videos, needing batteries removed and reinserted to wake it up, and is NOT sensing movement nearly as often as I had hoped. And I can't check in. And no, I don't want to bother with product support. I will probably just stick to using my other blank cams and give up on this one.

This product capture a lot of movement, which is what I was looking for. They are some issues with the doorbell button, not operating the mechanical doorbell time in the house line. But the video quality is excellent motion detection is excellent and the set up is very simple. I will recommend this part of everyone to use this security system at their home.

This video doorbell has been installed less than 2 weeks. Time will tell if it holds up. It's great that it can be hardwired to the original doorbell. The 2K+ version has little better camera than the previous model.
