Top notch graphics, super tight controls, great sound and more of a story line than any of the previous Souls games I've played (Dark souls 1 and 2). Yes, it's difficult but it's not impossible. You can't just hack and slash your way thru it or you will die...a lot... And you will lose all of your blood souls, a lot...and get p'd off.. a lot, lol Actually, you will die, a lot, pretty much regardless of how you play, lol but if you play smart, dodge, don't let yourself get ganged up on, etc. You will be ok. Finished this one and have gotten thru quite a bit of the expansion, which is much more difficult, btw. I highly recommend this game to anyone who considers themselves an avid gamer and is up for an epic adventure and a STIFF but fair challenge. Also, a really cool aspect of the game...you can summon people into your game to help you..you can also join other people's game to help/invade/hunt/kill them too! Can't wait for DS 3!!

Okay, for the most part, all that you've heard about this game is accurate. Things that it is:
Difficult (not especially more or less so than other Souls games)
Profoundly weird (Pretty straightforward Victorian werewolf stuff in the beginning, then...cosmic horror)
Quite similar in gameplay to previous From Software games, but faster, less variance in armor and weapons, somewhat of a homogenized gameplay expereince, but done well
Full of amazing areas/backgrounds
It is not:
A game to start with if you do not understand or appreciate the concept of playing games to get good/better at them
An action game
Easy to understand (see weird statement)
I would say it's one of the best Souls type games, but I love all of them, so...it's another great Souls game. You should have a go at it if you think you are up for learning how to play it.

I've been playing this game since it released and I gotta say, I'm in love with Bloodborne. This game is the latest game from the "Souls" series, but more like a spiritual successor. It's made from the same company that developed Demon Souls and Dark Souls 1 and 2. If you have played any of those games then this will feel familiar to you.
While the previous games took a "slow and steady" approach with the combat, Bloodborne is faster paced, dropping the shield for a gun. Less weapons and armor to collect, but more customization for your weapons. Also, each weapon can transform into a different type of weapon. You can equip up to 2 right hand melee weapons and 2 left hand firearms. This is effectively the equivalent of running into battle with 6 different weapons at the ready.
If you are looking for a story, it's there, but you have to piece the story together yourself. You'll have to watch the cut scenes, read the item descriptions, talk to NPCs and all of that good stuff. Even then the story is open to interpretation.
This game does not hold your hand. It won't tell you where to go next. After you progress a little through the game, you'll find that there is no set order for you to do things. You may find yourself running around looking for what's next. I accidentally even walked into a boss area one time. If you find yourself wondering what to do next, then you can spot help from other players via message notes, which leads us into the multiplayer.
The multiplayer is where this game truly shines, imo. While you are not directly connected to other players, you can leave notes behind to warn other players of an ambush up ahead the road, or a hidden item on the side of the hill covered in tall grass. Messages can be left to inform play players of a useful tactic for the area boss, or even just as a joke. You can find tombstones which replay how a player died in their final moments. You can co-op with up to 2 other people and even set up a password in the in-game network settings to connect with specific people (You both have to have the same password.) You can invade another player's world to find and take them down, or even be invaded yourself. With all that said, the multiplayer definitely could use some tweaking with. Sometimes I can connect with my friend rather quickly, other times it might take 20 minutes or just act like it doesn't want to work. If the connection issues can be fixed, this game would be a solid 5 stars for me.
This is a game where you will die over, and over, and over again. Once you die, you loose your experience points which are called blood echoes. These points are used to live level up your character, upgrade your weapons, and buy items from the shop. The good thing is, once you die, you can still get them back. You just need to make your way back to where you died at and collect your points. Sometimes, an enemy will walk over your blood echoes and absorb them. You'll know because the enemy will have purple glowing eyes. At this point, you must defeat the enemy to get your points back. In the event that you do die before you can get your points back, say bye-bye to all of that. They're gone forever. It may seem like a lot in the beginning, but later on, you'll find that it won't take you that long to get back to how many blood echoes you once had.
This game may beat you down in the beginning, but if you can hang in there and make it pass the first major boss, you'll truly see how the game opens up and delivers.

If you liked dark souls 2 you will love this game. It has a very high level of difficulty so if you are just a casual gamer this game might not be for you. Graphics are excellent and so is the story line. Load times are pretty long but that issue is supposed to be fixed with an update soon

It's going to be hard to find a Bloodborne review that doesn't mirror another review. This game is a love letter to Sony gamers. This isn't a game that casual gamers can pick up, get in to and end up loving. From Software pretty much cemented themselves as famously difficult games created by them. Like Demon/Dark Souls, Bloodborne looks and feels like a sequel to those.
Bloodborne, in a nutshell, is a game that requires patience, repetition, patience, a good memory, patience, very quick thinking, and more patience. You will die. You will die many, many times in this game. That's half the fun. It's like a game of lawn darts to see who can throw it the farthest: in this game you need to see how far you can get before dying.
The payoff for this game is dying handfuls of times in the same area and finally beating that area to move on. I think the point of the game that truly separates the men from the boys with this game is who can last playing the game long enough before rage quitting and trading it in for store credit somewhere. Most games now will hold your hand through every step of a mission with automatic save points, constant achievements/trophies for doing the simplest of tasks and allowing you to upgrade until you become just shy of being as powerful as a god. Bloodborne will humble you in every regard from those instances.
As far as graphics, sound and controls: this is the best looking, sounding and feeling game of this new gaming generation. Playstation 4 is just starting to spread its wings as it delves into the power of their console. Bloodborne is everything we've been waiting for as gamers.
Other reviewers here and on professional review sites have mentioned one of the only flaws in the game are its long loading times. If that's all people can find wrong with this game, we need to consider ourselves lucky. Yeah, it's annoying because you're going to be constantly dying so you will spend probably 40% of your time looking at a black screen with "Bloodborne" written on it....but who cares? This is no doubt the first in a new series so issues like that will be ironed out once more of next gen power is unlocked.

I've tried every Souls-type game in the recent years and have never gotten into any of them. The craze over games that are insanely punishing never made too much sense to me, couldn't find the "fun" in them at all. Fast forward to me finding this on a ridiculous sale and giving the genre one more go. I figured a Souls game that is faster and more action-focused sounded cool, and the gothic / Van Helsing-ish vibe looked really dang awesome. Powered up the game, created my character, and...
...I died. Quickly. On the very first enemy. But apparently I was supposed to! Got myself a weapon, got back in the game, ran past him, and survived for a decent amount. ...that is until I met a crowd of angry religious zealots that murdered me and sent me back near the beginning. After many MANY tries (a good 2+ hours worth), I couldn't break past this first section no matter what. Feeling the frustration I have with previous Souls-types, I resided myself to going to bed and returning the game to Best Buy in the morning. Screw this. I'm too old to make no progress in a game and fail at the same thing over and over again.
Then something kind of funny happened: I couldn't go to sleep. I couldn't stop thinking about what I might have been doing wrong, what order I could kill these jerks in, how I could break past this frustrating wall. I finally got some shut-eye for a few hours, woke up, and immediately turned this god-forsaken thing back on. Eventually, I got through and onto the next section of the game. It was the most glorious feeling I've ever felt in a video game and I immediately cried out and terrified my roommate in the process. ...theeeen I died again and got shot back to the beginning. The next time through though, I got farther. And then a little more, and a little more, until FINALLY I found a second checkpoint. Then shortcuts came about. And then even MORE checkpoints. Better weapons. Upgrades. Armor. Skills. Etc. etc. etc...
I've played this for a solid 40+ hours now, and while I've died so many times, I can honestly say I've learned something from almost all of them and have had such a blast in the process. I've taken a break from the game for now, beat 4 or 5 of the crazy bosses, am not necessarily stuck but it does take a lot out of you effort/time wise. Even if I never beat this though, heck, even if I never pick up this game again, the 40+ hours I spent so far have been more than worth the price. I regret not paying $60 on release, the devs more than deserve it. It's a truly incredible piece of work/art. Highly highly recommended for anyone on the fence, especially at the constant sale prices it's been going on lately. It's one of the most unique, gratifying, and infuriating experiences I've had in my 25+ years of gaming, and while I don't think it's made me a Souls fanatic in the slightest, count me in day-1 if there's ever a Bloodborne 2.

I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant to buy this one after hearing about the difficulty. But I went on a limb and got it. I haven't been this hooked to a game in YEARS. Yes, you will die. You will die ALOT. But that's part of the experience.... learning from your mistakes, paying attention to whats going on. And when you finally make it past "that part", its a great feeling of accomplishment. Reminds me of the old punishing games I grew up with. The graphics and audio are unreal and the action is fast paced. Highly recommended. If you get it, try and stick with it - it will be frustrating at first but your patience will be rewarded.

This gothic horror game from the guys that brought you the Dark and Demon Souls game is an action RPG with the difficulty turned up to insane. You're supposed to die in this game, and you will, again and again. The deaths never seem cheap though. If you die it wasn't because the computer cheated you. You learn from that death and go back at it again. This game should be called Live, Die, Repeat. Great graphics though, awesome soundtrack, dark and foreboding atmosphere. They nailed everything perfectly. Here's a tip as well, start the game with a character with high health and strength. At least on your first play through.

From Software has a tendency of being known for making hard games. The Dark Souls and Demon Soul and Armored Core series are known for testing gamers. This game is no different but at the same time, it does make sense for the way the game plays. This game is a 3rd person action game but unlike the souls games it does not heavily involve blocking then countering. The biggest difference this game has to the souls series is its way faster and more action oriented. The Co-op is fun, the action is great and yea there are moments when you die and get really mad but its not as punishing as the souls series.

It's so hard, but so good! I played through Dark Souls all the way through twice and am on a second playthrough of Dark Souls 2. I love Dark Souls, so I had to get Bloodborne. Thankfully, there was a deal to get Bloodborne and Last of Us with the PS4 so I had to jump on it.
The graphics look so good, with a much more visceral, bloody feel to everything. It's more difficult in my opinion than either Dark Souls, which is great for a challenge but scary without friends (I don't have PS+ or friends on PS, just Xbox for Dark Souls). The story is really interesting, and the action is intense!

Bloodborne is a fantastic game in every facet. It is the most impressive game to look at on any system at the moment. The combat and character movement are unparalleled. The story is deep, interesting, and mysterious. The enemies are varied and unpredictable. If you're new to From Software games (Dark Souls, etc.) the seeming difficulty may catch you off-guard. This is not a game for casual gamers. With some patience and attention though, players can conquer the seemingly insurmountable challenges presented, resulting in feelings of accomplishment that you just can't get from other games.

If you are a fan of the Souls series this is a must buy. I didn't even like the other two but I loved this one. Fast paced combat keeps you coming back even after you die for the 100th time. The atmosphere is incredible and the monster design is second to none. Boss fights are epic in every sense of the word. The story and lore is a bit hidden but if you explore you can figure out exactly what's going on. Make it to the end and the game begins anew with a much harder difficulty. Good luck getting through that.

I was recommended this game by a friend of mine. He told me beforehand that the game was difficult and not for the average casual gamer. When I first began the game I died instantly numerous times. Within the first 15 mins of playing the game I was full convinced thus game needed to be placed under my truck tire and backed over. That was my level of frustration with the game. However, with some coaching by my friend and the stubbornness to not let a game defeat me I gave it another shot. The second time around I loved the game! I began to understand the mechanics of how the game worked, I began to form better strategies for slaughtering enemies and became more patient with my attacks and movements. That is KEY to this game. Patience. If you don't have it and learn to slow down YOU WILL DIE. This is not just a wild hack and slash button masher go in guns blazing type of game. I repeat, if you do this thinking you can Devil May Cry on numerous enemies and come out alive, you will end up dying repeatedly and hating this game. Once you get the feel of the game and start leveling up and progressing you will fall on love with the asthetics of the game, the graphics, and the details that are found throughout the city of Yharnam. In closing, I cannot stress enough the word PATIENCE with this game. Take your time, learn the particular enemy(s) you are fighting and adapt accordingly. For the average gamer, this will be one of the most difficult games you will play.

I've never played any of the soul-series games, such as dark souls and blood souls. One thing I've heard time and time again is the level of difficulty that they present which is why I might've never picked them up.
Regardless, the countless positive reviews and hype leading up to it's release was overwhelming and mind-changing, so I bought it.
'I gotta say, it's become one of my favorite games. It's heavy and it's not what I would call a time-filler. This game will require hours of commitment and level of patience that I haven't felt since the days of no-save games on my nintendo.
The reputation of this game being challenging is true. You will spend hours and hours before you are able to travel any significant amount of distance. The enemies will be hard and you will suck. This game will not hold your hand, it will give you a sword and throw you into the fire.
With all that being said, you will not feel the happiness and relief you will feel when you beat a challenging area or a boss. It makes it all worth it!
As far as looks, mechanics, and level design, there is no better on the PS4. Every part of the city you discover is unique and the settings are omnious and beautiful at the same time. The controls are smooth although I've heard if your an old dark souls player it can take some getting used to because the buttons aren't the same.
The only negative is the loading screens, which they've patched and made a bit shorter. Personally, I welcome them because they give me a brief moment to collect myself and calm down, but I can see how some people might not like it.
If you're on the edge about this game, get it. Even if you end up not liking it, everyone should be experience this type of game once.

This game (so far) has been a similar experience as Dark Souls games. However it has just enough different to set itself apart as a unique experience.
The difference lies in the faster paced action. While Dark Souls seemed to utilize blocking more, Bloodborne calls for quicker movements (with the familiar rolling mechanic).
The atmosphere and graphics are outstanding, and the sound really helps to bring cohesion to the game.
So far, so amazing!

Bloodborne is a PS4 exclusive developed jointly by Sony's Japan Studios and From Software. From is probably best known for the Demon / Dark Souls series; games that became reknowned for their difficulty, dedication to old school gaming, and deliberately mysterious story-telling conventions.
"You Will Die" quickly became the tag line for the Souls games, and Bloodborne continues in that trend, but also makes a conscious effort to expand upon and differentiate itself from its predecessors. I think the tag line for this game should be "You Will Die, and then You Will Kill." Gone are the shields from the Souls game, which are instead replaced by firearms. You will not be able to rely on the same defensive techniques you've learned from the Souls games. Gameplay is noticeably faster and you will be expected to remain on the offensive, whenever reasonably possible in order to keep enemies stunned and your health regenerating. You'll need to learn how to manipulate your opponents, such as drawing enemies away from one another, one or two at time or using chokepoints in the environment to keep yourself from being surrounded.
For fans of the Souls games, Bloodborne is a no-brainer. You'll enjoy it without a doubt. For those unfamiliar with the Souls games or those who disliked them, these games are meant to be very different from modern gaming. You are thrown into a world with little explanation and you're expected to adapt and survive without being told how to, whereas most modern games have frequent checkpoints, pop-up reminders, tips, maps, and radars. If you have patience and are willing to lose often, you will get better and you will enjoy it.

A different take on the "Souls" Franchise

Bloodborne is a fantastic game, it is beautiful and challenging. Keeping with the souls tradition, most of the game play is the same, main differences being the speed of combat is much faster in Bloodborne, relying more on being aggressive and agile over the slower more methodical pacing in the Souls games. There is only one shield in the game, which is basically useless, sending the message that blocking isn't part of the Bloodborne experience. The weapon system is more streamed lined too, making it less complicated than the Souls Series, though upgrading and customizing is still there. The world is huge, but does feel a bit disconnected compared to the Dark Souls games, you have a hub world that you have to go to for fast travelling to specific areas which is very similar to Demons Souls in that regard. Also like Demons Souls is the feel of the world and atmosphere. Unlike the Dark Souls Series, you won't see dragons or even knights this time around, the vibe is more gothic, dealing with more Monsters like werewolves, zombies, vampires, etc which is very refreshing and welcomed. There are even more bosses in this Variation of the Series to slaughter and even optional Chalice Dungeons to explore with, you guessed it, tons more bosses to kill and items to grab. Some Dungeons are even Randomly Generated for hours of extra things to keep you busy with.
All in all, this is game is about as much as you can ask for, any PS4 gamers that are in for a challenge need not look any further, this is the game for you.

BLOODBORNE - FromSoftware does it again.

BLOODBORNE is the game that every Demon's Souls and Dark Souls fan hopes it would be..
Fresh, new, amazing, and different.. but somehow still very familiar to those games.
Unlike the Souls games, BLOODBORNE takes on a different approach in combat - a more, in your face type of approach. There isn't many shields in this game, so you rely more on dodging, and counter-attacks.
I recommend this to anyone that want's to play a game that is tough and rewarding, and doesn't just hand you victory. I also recommend this game to any Demon / Dark Souls fans, as FROMSOFTWARE and Hidetaka Miyazaki has made another master-piece.

Until Dark Souls III, I never played any of the Soulsborne games before (so they're called) and boy, are they something else. This game, much like Dark Souls, has a very distinct type of gameplay and atmosphere that can only really be described as "Dark Souls". However, what really sets this game apart from Dark Souls is the arsenal of weapons and abilities you're given. In Dark Souls, you get mostly traditional medieval weapons like swords and shields. In this game, you get all different kinds of interesting and unique weapons, and there's only 1 shield in the entire game (but that's not a bad thing). The combat requires you to stay on your toes and keep moving at all times, which makes for a very different style of play compared to Dark Souls.
Basically, even though it resembles Dark Souls a lot in many ways, there's a lot that sets it apart and makes it unique in its own ways. If you're thinking about buying, I suggest looking into some "Dark Souls vs. Bloodborne" YouTube videos first. There's just too much to cover in a text review here.

Great Game! Not your Average RPG game. This is not your usual Hack and Slash type of Game. You can easily die within a few strikes from an enemy. Save points are only available after you defeat a boss! The Boss battles are epic, but at times very difficult that can lead to frustration. But overall, if you can over come all these obstacles, Bloodborne is a fantastic game!!
