If you haven't played previous souls type games it's pretty hard but the atmosphere and the story makes up for that

Been a souls fan since demon souls, loved the lore and combat. Bloodborne is more of the same while also being very different. The combat is fast and frantic, but patience is still key. Learning enemy attack patterns, timing dodges, when to counter.
It took me a while to get use to no shields, and ultimately forced me to become a better player. The only thing I disliked about the game was there wasn't enough of the game. Story and side quests will have you around 25 hours, there are also chalice dungeons which add to that time but can be an afterthought.
Can't recommend this game enough, can't wait for dark souls 3 and see if any gameplay has transferred over.

I have been a fan of the Miyazaki since Demons Souls, beat Dark Souls, and I've just beaten Bloodborne. The talk of difficulty levels is true, you'll be hard pressed to find a game so unforgiving, but with that challenge comes a sense of satisfaction when you overcome the adversaries of Yahrnam. Not to say that the game is unfair, however, in fact quite the opposite. Your deaths in the quest become avoidable when you learn just how you're meant to pet this angry tiger to finesse victory from it's talons.
Bloodborne is, in my opinion, everything a hardcore game should be, and if you're up for the challenge, you won't be disappointed. I r8 8/8, truly gr8.

I've never played a souls game before but I kept hearing that Bloodborne was a good game for newcomers. The thing with this game is if you don't have patience you wont like it. Everything you do in the game is a grind. From playing the same section over and over until you finally learn every trick into beating it, or simply figuring out how to upgrade things, etc. With all of that being said there is something deeply satisfying about finally beating a section you've been stuck of for the past few hours. I've only beat the first few bosses but It always keeps me wanting to jump back in and do it all over again!

Bloodborne is a game of skill. Every turn requires the player to be ready to fight, run, counter, or just hide until you gather your nerves.
The overall games atmosphere is amazing. A vast variety of villians are ready to take you down. Be careful! You can't just mash buttons and" hope for the best." This is not that type of adventure.
I highly recommend Bloodborne to you for one key reason. This game will make you realize most other titles are developed to be easy. You have to earn your trophies here.

Dark Souls, But More Aggressive

This game is the next foray by the team behind Dark Souls and it retains the challenge and difficulty that Dark Souls has become infamous for while also forging its own path as a more offensively oriented game. This makes the game even more exciting as you dodge more to get attacks in and generally play a much riskier game than in any of the previous Dark Souls titles. Honestly, this might be an improvement upon even Dark Souls. The gameplay here is so deep and every victory is immensely satisfying.
This game is NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART THOUGH. It is VERY hard.

Initially I was not going to buy this game. After using share-play and actually playing this game I just had to go get this game. The combat is really amazing. It is not a hack and slash. It takes skill and strategy to defeat monsters. Enemies and bosses are extremely detailed. The beauty of this Gothic themed game puts terror in you when fighting bosses. The best thing about it is that it is not as hard as dark souls series and demon souls. I played all those games and could not beat them. This game I beat twice and achieved the platinum trophy. I have not played co-op but I have played pvp and it is fun as long as it is working.

If you're willing to accept the early frustrations, Bloodborne will cast a deep hook that will keep you thinking about the game and itching to get back in. There is a fair amount of repetitiveness as you inevitably die (a lot) and find yourself back to the start of the area, but the ability to unlock shortcuts and find new strategies to take down previously impenetrable foes feels rewarding. Optional cooperative play also can bring down the difficulty and help you progress through the game. The mechanics and artistry of the world are some of the best I've seen, and the gameplay feels better than past Souls games.

This is the hardest game I've ever played in my 30 years of gaming, granted I didn't play Dark Souls. The graphics are beautiful. The learning curve can be kind of steep. This game will put you to the test.

This game pulls you in through its incredible atmosphere and incredibly detailed sets. The sound design is perfect and sets a creepy tone. While walking down a run down gothic street and hear cackling from a nearby house you can't help but get chills. This experience only gets better when the bell tolls in the distance and an imposing foe treads menacingly towards you. Bloodborne is a fantastically made game with near perfect level design which everyone who enjoys the genre should play. Be warned though, the game is hard, if you are easily frustrated by dying and long load times maybe stay away.

If you like the souls games fromsoftware has come to be known for, you will like bloodborne. Its not as fleshed out as dark souls, but puts such a different feel and twist on the formula that makes it feel fresh and awesome to die all over again. Combat is fast paced and all about quickly attacking and dodging. Say goodbye to shields and hello to guns. My favorite part of the game has to be the gothic world in which it takes place and the eerie atmosphere that surrounds you. If you can survive the nightmareish enemies and difficulty, you will see the beauty fromsoftware has nailed again.

This is my review coming from someone who didn't play Dark Soul I & II. This game is hard, hard, hard... but i like it. This is one of the few games I have ever played where you can't just breeze through the story with no difficulty. This game is very challenging but enjoyable. The graphics are beautiful, soundtrack is great, and the whole theme of the game is amazing. I have played the game for five hours now, and it seems I just barely completed a tiny tiny portion of the game. This is a MUST buy exclusive, the hype is real, the Metacritic scores don't lie.

I've been known to appreciate challenging games. This is my first game from From software, and it likely won't be my last. Amazing depth of the world, level and creature design, story and atmosphere. You are simply immersed directly into it without any direction as to where to go or what to do. You are actually encouraged to die by exploration. It's dark, brooding, scary, visceral and enigmatic.
Docking one point due to the excessively brutal ramp up period in the early game. Grind to level 20, ring your Resonant Bell and take out Father G. with some help, the game opens up and gets much more fun and interesting afterward. It's worth the struggle to get past the first several hours of challenging content.

I do not play games often. When I started playing this game I died way too many times compared to other games. At one point I almost wanted to set this game aside but then I decided to continue because this game is different from the other games that I've played so far (such as Skyrim, Uncharted, Tomb Raider etc). For me this game is unique in its own sense and definitely more challenging than many other games. I played Dark Souls II Demo and personally I think I like this game better as it seems to be more Gothic and nicely done.

Bloodborne is not what I expected it to be, it has stressed me out every now & then, but yet I can't stop playing it. I've never played any Dark Souls games, so I'm new to this genre but it's worth buying & playing. Don't give up, at first you'll be lost but eventually it becomes clearer as you put more hours into it so yeah, give it a whirl! I've maybe played for over 60+ hours by now & still haven't passed it but that's only because I like exploring & doing co-op here & there. You won't know what lies ahead until you try it yourself, death is only the beginning.
