If you are familiar with the game play style of the concept of Metriodvania. Then, you will not be disappointed here. However, I do recommend purchasing this on the PS4 or Xbox to truly get the full visual and audio experience of this game. Gameplay is pretty easy to manage and leaves it wide open for exploration. You don't have to play its prequel Curse of the Moon. However, that is also a good retro style game to play and does help a little with character development and storyline with this one.

Awesome game! Love the 3D visuals, voice acting and music. So fun to play, especially if you love the Castlevania series.

It's the game all SotN fans have been waiting for! I loved every aspect of this game, but of course some improvements could have been done. Overall you will have fun with this if you are a fan of the previous iterations of this genre. I've played this game half a dozen times already. Each time I play it a little differently because of the flexibility in game play. There are times in the game where we have to grind a bit too much for the cool weapons.

If you're a fan of Konami's Castlevania titles, specifically Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow, etc. then chances are Ritual of the Night has been on your radar for quite some time. Former Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi Kickstarted Bloodstained as a spiritual successor to the beloved "Metroidvania" games, (preceded by the excellent NES-esque Curse of the Moon), and for a longtime fan such as myself, it hits all of the right notes. The gameplay will be second nature to "Metroidvania" veterans, including attacking every wall you come across trying to find secrets. The main element of Bloodstained's gameplay is collecting "shards," or enemy abilities, to make yourself more powerful and be able to access previously inaccessible areas; the Shard system is nearly identical to the Gameboy Advance's Circle of the Moon. Not surprisingly, much of the game's elements are similar to Symphony of the Night, even down to the design of the castle (another big waterfall in the underground cave section). Like all Castlevania titles, Bloodstained is backed by an excellent soundtrack, however, the plentiful voice acting is incredibly cheesy, and not in an endearing way. The graphics, while not bad at all, aren't as appealing as previous Igarashi Castlevanias. The choice to not use sprites and 2D graphics for the game's art style makes Bloodstained's visuals (especially the environments) kind of bland, especially when its predecessors designs were downright gorgeous. If Symphony of the Night is one of your favorite games of all time, then no doubt you should buy Bloodstained. If you want to support this style of game and possible future titles, do so with your money. The likelyhood of Konami keeping Metroidvania alive isn't very likely...

After the four year wait for this gem to come out I am reminded of my time playing Castlevania Symphony of the Night. Bloodstained mirrors the soul of SOTN. I do not believe the map is as big as SOTN including the Inverted Castle, but the scope and feel is there with many different game modes and free planned DLC. I bought the PS4 and Switch versions, I sincerely hope the Switch gets the updates it needs to be an awesome port, but the PS4 port is awesome.

This game brings back great memories of Symphony of the Night. So much to explore and so many play styles.

I've thoroughly enjoyed Bloodstained. I started playing it thinking it would be as easy, but still enjoyable, as it's spiritual predecessor (Symphony of the Night). I was pleasantly surprised at the difficulty curve found here that is absent from SOTN. The soundtrack is alright, but I'm very difficult to please when it comes to music in video games. Visually, it is very polished when compared to the status updates given throughout the progress updates for the project. Voice acting in the game isn't bad; I'll play most anything with David Hayter's voice in it. My biggest gripes about the game come from how the game tends to freeze momentarily if you try to access the menu in certain points. This, in no way, diminishes from how fun the game is. It's definitely worth the money you pay.

If you played any of the Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS Castlevania games this game will fell very familiar, this game is fun and easy to play, some of the bosses are extremely unforgiving in difficulty but there is always a save point near them so you don't lose any progress if you lose to them. The game is only about 20 hours long so you can beat it in a couple of days. It's a definite buy if you're a fan of Castlevania games.

I originally bought the Switch version, but I found it to be practically unplayable because of so many issues, such as the input lag. As of this review, the switch version is still terrible. The PS4 is the optimal way to play this game IMO. The game itself is awesome. Especially if you’re a fan of Castlevania games.

Nothing game breaking but lacking since polish. With the time it took to make, I expected more polish. Otherwise a great game that should not be missed. Plus you know, David hayter is in it.

This has the same feeling as a Castlevania game but for the modern gamer. This game was on sale for a great price. I would recommend this game for any Castlevania fan.

What else can I say about this game. This game was years in development and it was definitely worth the wait. The game plays beautifully with great music and a beautiful art style that I definitely enjoy. Love these kinds of games and it definitely has a good amount of content to keep you busy. If you're on the fence about this one, don't be. Its worth every penny.

Classic gameplay and exploration, with a few performance issues. Variety of shards and weapons makes the game feel fresh until the end.
