The Blueair 7470i is an exceptional air purifier with results you can actually smell. I’ve had a few other air purifiers with the usual UV and ionization features, but I honestly couldn’t tell you how well they’ve been working. I run them with the premise that they’re doing their job, but outside of being loud, I’m not sure. However, with the 7470i, I can actually smell the difference in the rooms I put it in. It works so well, I don’t bother with air fresheners or scented plug-ins anymore, because the 7470i noticeably gets rid of smells quickly. Aside from passing the nose test, the touch screen display tells you how clean the air is with color coded light bars for gas and particulate air quality. I know these sensors actually work, because… how can I put it? Sometimes, when I pass gas, the gas light bar turns red and the fan switches to high. This machine can literally smell your farts and it’s the best and most hilarious thing. It also does a great job with other smelly things and you can monitor how clean the air is down to the 1 micron level. The GermShield technology is another feature that really sets this air purifier apart. It’s been tested to kill 99% of airborne viruses, mold, and bacteria, including H1N1. It hasn’t been tested for covid19 yet, but it certainly helps by getting rid of the rest. But maybe the most convenient trait about this air purifier is how quiet it is. I leave it on auto and the fan is generally just a whisper. You can definitely hear it on high, but it’s like a subtle whoosh that you don’t even have to raise your voice over. The 7470i is a bit pricey, but you really get what you pay for here. I’ve used a bunch of air purifiers in the $100+ range, but this one is in a whole other league. With 24/7 GermShield protection, 1 micron air filtration, quiet operation, and gas detection, this is an exceptional air purifier that will quickly give you notable results. Very highly recommended.

Amazing air purifier!

The Blueair HealthProtect 7470i HEPASilent Ultra Air Purifier with GermShield is an amazing air purifier. I set mine up in the living room where everyone tends to spend the most time and in less than one day, there was a noticeable difference in the freshness of the air throughout the whole house even though the description states it is designed for 418 square feet.
It was relatively easy to setup although I had a little trouble getting my phone to connect to the unit to start. After a few attempts, my phone finally synced with the unit and after only a few short minutes, everything was ready to go. There is a lot of detail provided in the app and to be honest, I don’t really know what all of the different symbols and readings mean. Fortunately, it is easy to tell how good your air quality is due to the color scheme provided which is also displayed on the unit itself when you have the lights activated. A quick glance at the unit tells you how clean the air is. The app also makes it really easy to control the purifier. I was able to easily setup a schedule for it to run on auto during the day and night mode during the night which dims the lights on the unit itself while still operating and keeping the air purified.
As previously stated, I put my unit in the living room but our kitchen is openly connected to the living room and whenever we start cooking, the air purifier detects the gasses and steps up to get things under control. We used to have a lot of problems with our smoke detectors going off whenever we cooked but I don’t think it has happened even once now that we have the air purifier setup which is an amazing added bonus!
Overall, I am very impressed with the Blueair HealthProtect 7470i HEPASilent Ultra Air Purifier with GermShield and I highly recommend it!

The 7470i is pretty hefty but easy to move around once you unbox it. I have several other filters but mine move as much air as this one. We have it set up toward the rear of the house between the kitchen, den and garage entrance. We feel this is the best air to eliminate any outside bacteria, virus and odors.
Well great job on odors and I hope too bacteria and virus. I feel it is doing so on the latter regardless if the manufacturer is not claiming it will or will not. It is a comfort having it run as we come in from outdoors or on grocery runs, just another added layer of protection fir the family.
It is very quiet even on the highest settings and the bright holding lights not an issue since it is located in a high traffic area where sleep is not a concern or darkness.
I like the app as well as the control panel on the unit itself, nice to see controls on the unit and not just app based controls...nice plus.

I love it! Setup took no time at all, I took the plastic off the filter and the unit, plugged it in and Downloaded the app and synced it to my phone. Voila! I was up and running. I ran it through a few different fan speeds over the last few days but have decided to keep it in auto mode. That suits my needs best. The app interface is simple and straightforward. You get the data you want to see like fan speed, filter life, temp, humidity, and some other data that is nice! The best part is you can control and monitor the entire thing from your phone without ever having to touch the device itself!!! Air quality has been noticeably improved now that it’s been installed a few days, fresher, crisper air if that makes sense??

Piece of mind in uncertain times

In uncertain times, anything that can help us maintain cleanliness, respiratory health and our general well being is something we should strongly consider pursuing. The Blueair HealthProtect 7470i was something I wanted to add to our house even before the COVID-19 outbreak. I have allergies, and during allergy season it doesn’t matter if you are inside or not. It still bothers me. I don’t have to go into depth on allergies or the bad things in the air, you are reading this because you are interested in the Blueair 7470i. Of the various models the brand has, this one is able to handle larger rooms.
The good:
1. FILTER: According to the instructions, the filter is able to 99.97% of airborne particles. This includes things like dust pollen, smoke, gases, odors, bacteria, viruses, mold and many other things. The HEPA filter is replaceable, not something you wash off and place back in the machine, I see it as on par with the more expensive allergen filters. I am not sure if it is proprietary, but it is definitely made specifically for the machine based on fitment alone.
2. SOUND: The Blueair 7470i is super quiet, and with the typical ambient noise in any home you will not notice it at all. Even when it is going at max performance. It is a little both quieter than a circulating fan, and that again is when the 7470i is going full power. The air it blows out is nice and cool. 22dB on Low, and 45dB on high.
3. INTERFACE: The digital interface is easy to use and looks nice. Most importantly though, it functions well. Although I have no issues with the interface as far as use, I do have one “con” which will be listed below.
4. COVERAGE: This machine is the biggest option and is suited for a living room, master bedroom or a room of that size. I have it in my living room, as it is where we enter the house and in general where we spend most of our time.
5. LOOKS/FUNCTION: The 7470i is an attractive device and fits nicely in a corner near an outlet. It is tall instead of wide which is better for saving space. It has wheels on the bottom so you can move it with ease. The cord wraps around the bottom of the machine so there is no slack between the machine and the outlet for a cleaner appearance. The look and feel of the 7470i is one of quality, and you can immediately tell it is well made.
The Bad:
1. CONNECTIVITY: I mask my WiFi settings, so nobody can see my device. Obviously I do this for security, and it is something I don’t plan on changing. When I tried to connect the 7440i to my internet connection, all the public listings show up (ie neighbors, comcast public connection, etc). Normally when you connect a device to anything it gives you the option to make a manual connection. That way I can enter my account info and connect. This device does not allow you to enter a manual connection, so I am unable to control the device through the app. That is unfortunate, but something I would like to be fixed in an update. This is my ONLY con for the Blueair 7470i.
The verdict? Well I am completely satisfied with the looks, performance and value of the 7470i. At the price point like anything else it is an investment. But do your homework. You will see you get a great return on your dollar if you buy the 7470i. I would recommend it to anyone that is an allergy sufferer, as well as anyone that wants that extra piece of mind like my family did. I highly recommend it, and will likely get another one soon.

The first thing to consider for indoor air quality products like these is understanding the difference between air purifiers and air cleaners. Air cleaners remove particle and pollutants from from the air but do not inactivate/kill pathogens whereas air purifiers both clean the air and sanitize the air using some type of additional function (UV lights, electricity etc.) The Blueair - HealthProtect 7470i falls under the air purifier category. Let’s take a look at the setup , features, functions , strengths and weaknesses:
Setup –
Scan the QR code, download the app and connect the air purifier. I’ve seen a few reviews that people had some difficulty with setting up, but I had none. The whole process only took a few minutes.
App –
The app is everything in control and sensors. It tells you temperature, humidity and pollutants. You can control fan speed, automatic control and you can even turn off the LED panel ( great feature if you have the air purifier in a bedroom.)
I did run into in terms of integration. The Blueair - HealthProtect 7470i is advertised to work with both Alexa and Google Assistant. No matter what I tried, there was no option for in the Blue Air app nor in the Google Home app. After going back and forth with BlueAir customer service team, I requested it to be escalated because I could not get answer to the problem. Finally, it was determined there is a problem in the US with integrating with the Google Assistant.
Air changes –
Filters the air at a rate of about 5 changes an hour in a 418 ft² room. This is important measure, pollutants can enter the air from a myriad of sources and time frames. The higher the exchange the better.
Air purification –
Although it is impossible for a user to measure this, Blueair claims to “remove 99.97% of viruses and bacteria,³ dust, pollen, dander and mold,⁴ and traps VOC and odors. Once caught in the filter, this unique technology then kills 99%⁵ of germs.” What I can say is the wedge design of the air filter and overall filter quality looks like it should do a good job. The wedge design gives it a larger surface area in small area. I ran the unit for approximately two weeks and took the filter out and shook it over white paper. While my apartment is very clean and I do run other air purifiers, the Blueair removed a decent amount of particles based on what dropped on the paper.
Sound –
Very, very quiet. The decibel rating is 25 DB to 53 DB. To give you a reference point, 53 DB is about the same level as normal conversation and 25 DB is a whisper. Now there are a lot of factors that come into determine the overall sound - how far away are you, the room structure, what is the octave band of the sound etc. Trust me, it is quiet.
In summary, I like the Blueair - HealthProtect 7470i. It is well built and feature rich. It is not as industrial looking at some of the other Blueair products (I think some of them look dated.) I have seen some complaints that it is large. That is a matter of perspective, it is bit taller than average (27 inches) but only has a 1 foot by 1 foot. It fit easier than the Levoit it replaced. It should be noted that there is a lot of marketing leeway on what a purifier actually does. This only cleans the air stream that is going into the unit. It is not going to do anything for germs that someone is breathing out that is near you (unless you strap the air cleaner to your face. ) The 7470i is a bit on the expensive side at $640 but the quality is definitely there and in line with the better air purifiers.
The Blueair - HealthProtect 7470i comes in at 4 out of 5 stars. It could have been 5 stars if the price was a bit lower and erroneous advertisement of that it works with the Google Assistant. Regardless, I recommend this air purifier for quality, sound and function.

Incredibly quiet air filter

The Blueair HealthProtect 7470i is an excellent air filter product. Sleek and futuristic looking (it reminds me a bit of the new PS5!), it's amazing how quiet and efficient it is. I have another air filter, and the quiet mode on it, and the max fans on the Blueair, are not dissimilar!
Setup is easy, and the filter can work entirely on its own, out of the box. However, you will get better information and more options if you download and install the Blueair app. Other than having to go back a screen because it didn't seem it had taken my information (it did though), I found the setup to be fairly simple. In the app you can find a plethora of details and settings. You can view different particulate levels over time, VOCs, and temperature and humidity. It will give you an air quality rating from Excellent to Very Polluted. There are settings for the auto mode, plus manual fan control, and night mode. Helpfully, the internal filter's remaining lifetime is prominently displayed, so you know when to replace it. You can also set device options, such as the device name, the LED brightness level, Germ Shield (enabled by default), and a child lock out (disabling the physical interface, so only the app can control the device).
More than just an air filter, the Blueair also gives you quite a bit of information about the nature of your internal air, detailing the nature and amount of different types of particulates. If set to auto, it will choose the best way to deal with these things, However, you can take manual control. I burned food in the kitchen, and smoke and steam filled the kitchen. Checking the app, it had immediately detected the air as "polluted" and I manually set the airflow to maximum. I was astounded by how quickly the kitchen cleared of smoke AND odor.
In addition, other thoughtful touches: bright screen that's easy to read, wheels on the bottom (it's not so heavy as to be a huge hassle to move, but it is definitely not light weight), and cord storage integrated in the bottom.
I'd recommend this to anyone. It just works, gives you a ton of information about your air quality, provides HEPA filtering (at a time when clean air is of paramount concern!) and does so almost silently. The app control is very nice and is frankly my primary interface with the device, as the level of control is outstanding. The intangible factor is the design: I just really love the aesthetics of the device and how it looks in my house. Looks good, cleans the air you breath: what's more to ask for?

So far the purifier has worked great. The features are great. The air quality indicator on the machine is great, because I am able to turn the lights off at night and able to have them come back on in the day. The ability to schedule how I want it to work is great. It was super easy to connect to my phone and to my network. Overall I'm very satisfied.

With the Coronavirus surging everywhere nothing is more important than air quality and the ability to protect against viruses, and bacteria.
With the Blueair - HealthProtect 7470i you get a true Hepa Filter that will remove 99.97% of all environmental contaminants.
Its not too noisy and doesn’t use a lot of power (about 40% more energy efficient) compared to other models.
The included filter has an RFID Chip in it that monitors usage and notifies you of when to replace it.
The Blueair - HealthProtect 7470i has a companion app that can give you the ETA to when you will have clean air and even has features to set the Blueair to come on prior to you coming home and turning off when you leave.
If you want to use the Blueair - HealthProtect 7470i in a bedroom you can adjust the top display to dim or turn off, whatever you prefer so as to not have an intrusive light in your bedroom (big issue for me).
While the Blueair - HealthProtect 7470i is not tested for protection against COVID, I feel safer knowing that I have something that cleans the air, is very quiet, and not intrusive into my living space….I’d definitely recommend to keep you and your family safe.

Awesome Air Purifier

I wasn’t sure this was going to be large enough to help my house but it has been great for my family room and kitchen area which is where we spend the majority of our time.
Go ahead and cook something up like bacon or another smoky food and you’ll be shocked at how quickly the room clears up and the scent is gone.
The lights on the top are very helpful. Anything other than blue or green indicates that it is cleaning the air and once both the left and right are back to those colors, you know it is completely active and clearing the air of pollutants.
Everything you need to know is on the device itself however the Blueair is helpful and shows you historical data, filter information and a few other things that you can’t get from the screen.
I think this air purifier is one of the better ones that I have had experience with and would absolutely recommend it for a house that you want to focus specially on one or two room's. Larger homes with great rooms or the need for more air purification may be better off with a larger system but this one is great for a couple average size rooms for sure.

The Blueair Health protect 7470i is a well-built air purifier with premium features, unfortunately many of the features require the use of a buggy app. Setting up the purifier out of the box, is simple and straight forward. Once that’s done, you just plug in the purifier and proceed to set it up using the app. The 7470i is rather large and heavy, but the design is very aesthetic and pleasing. On the top of the purifier consists of a small square LCD display, this gives you all sorts of information such as; room temperature, humidity level, air quality levels, and the lifespan of the current filter. Below the screen has your basic controls, which are touch sensitive, such as power, auto mode, WIFI toggle etc. Directly under the controls is a long LED light strip that shines a color depending on the air quality…For instance, if the air quality is good it shines blue, if it’s bad then it shines red etc... The light bar is extremely bright, which is fine but the only way to adjust the brightness is through the app. I wish they would’ve incorporated the light controls on the machine itself.
In order to get the full benefit of the 7470i purifier, you will need to download the app and connect the purifier to WiFi. The 7470i purifier works in conjunction with the blueair app, and without the app, you immediately lose out on many of the products features. With the app, you are able to change the brightness of the LED light strip/LCD display, set a manual fan speed, set a custom timer, but most importantly, this is where you get all your information about your air quality. Sadly, the app is poorly designed and doesn’t let you connect to mesh networks or modem/router combos. I have countless devices connected to my network, including other brands of air purifiers and not once have I ever had an issue like this before. But the biggest problem I have about that, is not anywhere in the manual or on the website does it state this. The only I was able to find this out, was after support contacted me about it. That being said, I was able to connect my purifier to my mobile hotspot in order to set it up and register it for the first time.
Once the purifier is up and running, you will hardly notice it running as its very quiet. Although the one thing that is very distracting is the LED light strip on the top of the unit. It constantly stays lit up. You can adjust the brightness in the app, but when you lower it, it also lowers the brightness on the LCD screen (which isn’t that bright to begin with)... The purifier seems to do a good job at what it was designed for, which is cleaning the air. I was able to notice a big difference in my air quality, as I didn’t wake up in the middle of the night stuffy as I usually do. This really helps a lot, especially when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep.
Overall, I am pretty disappointed with how Blueair designed the app and how it connects to certain WiFi networks only. The absurdly bright LED strip on the top of the unit, makes it hard to fall asleep to and without being able to connect to the app, I had to result in putting a sock over it. While you can adjust the brightness, anything over 1% is still too bright for me and at that, you won’t be able to see the LCD display. I will say, that the unit is very quiet and seems to clean the air properly. The Blueair 7470i is a very nice purifier, with tons of features…But if you currently have a router/modem combo, or mesh network, then you’re going to have a hard time connecting it to your network. Sadly, because of that reason, I wouldn’t be able to recommend this to anyone.
