I've always known about this movie but never seen it. My son started watching it with me via streaming. Hate streaming due to lockups so I bought a hard copy. Excellent movie though hard to watch given what all happens. I think mainstream America takes freedom for granted and forget the high price that it takes to buy freedom. It's also easily lost when people get complacent.

I know that Mel Gibson isn’t exactly someone people want to talk about these days due to his past personal issues, but I have to admit that this film is a reminder of why he was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Not only doe he do a great job acting here, this is also his directorial debut and while “Braveheart” may be one of the most historically inaccurate films ever made, it is a great and epic work of fiction that happens to be very loosely based on a true story. In short, it’s still a lot of fun.

In the late 13th century, William Wallace returns to Scotland after living away from his homeland for many years. The king of Scotland has died without an heir and the king of England, a ruthless pagan known as Edward the Longshanks, has seized the throne. Wallace becomes the leader of a ramshackle yet courageous army determined to vanquish the greater English forces. At the historic battle of Stirling, Wallace leads his army to a stunning victory against the English. Knighted by the grateful Scottish nobles, Sir William Wallace extends the conflict south of the border and storms the city of York. King Edward I is astonished by the unexpected turn of events. Unable to rely on his ineffectual son Prince Edward, Longshanks sends his daughter-in-law Princess Isabelle to discuss a truce with Wallace...

Still the Greatest Movie Ever Made

I've watched Braveheart about 6 times. It really was the best movie I've ever seen. I know it's not the greatest movie of all time, but since it had such a profound effect on me when I was 16; I will always consider this to be the best film ever. I could have watched it more than the half dozen times, but I never wanted to ruin the effect it's had on me. Too much of a good thing and all that. There are directorial flaws and the accents are hit and miss (Mel Gibson mainly) but when this came to theatres in 1995; nothing had been done on this great a scale, this well. The music by James Horner is amazing! Boy, I miss that guy's talent. The battles are epic, the set design always made me feel like I was right there in the Highlands with them. The story is inspiring and gut-wrenching. It has the romance of some of the best, the action of some of the best, the bond of friendship of some of the best, the speeches of some of the best... it's got a lot going for it. I could go on, but basically - see for yourself. It earned the Best Picture of 1995 for good reason. So many movies have mimicked what it did well since then. They may have even done better with their material, but Braveheart did a lot of right and before most of them.

Braveheart is my all-time favorite movie, and the fact that Paramount & Co. have released it on the latest format relatively early in the game had me concerned if this classic would get the treatment it deserves. The Blu-ray release was impeccable, delivering nearly flawless video and audio. I thought, how can it be topped? I was pleasantly surprised (and relieved!) that this historical-myth picture got the 4K treatment the film - and the fans - deserve! The HDR treatment, the details, and color palette delivers an impeccable display, and the Dolby Atmos sound puts you right in medieval Scotland. I can't recommend the film enough, and as fully satisfied as I was with the Blu-ray release, the 4K takes it to another level!

    Steelbook Design

The steelbook case appears to be somewhat mute in overall color save the bright prominent main character on full display on the front. The back features slightly more color with a sword sticking out of the ground which is assumed to be inspired from the symbolic scene from the film. The title is prominently displayed on the front cover which may be desired by some and loathed by others. There's a somewhat metallic sheen towards the bottom left front cover as the text ends; which is nice subtle addition to the overall cover design.

Viewed on LG C7 OLED and the LG UBK90 4K Blu-ray player, I say this because I've played 4K movies on my Sony 900 and the Sony 800 4K player, and they weren't near as good, I'm going to do a head to head comparison to see if the experience is as good on it. The background is absolutely stunning at times. There are shallow depths of field for some scenes, where you might question things, but this is filming. Actor/actresses have varying levels of sharpness (hair detail is good, actor complexion not as crisp, but I think that is too be expected, and the levels of detail vary across different scenes. Costumes (sackcloth, tartans and etc) are very good. Overall, the 4K brings a new viewing experience to a movie I've seen probably 50 times or better. It brought back the joy of seeing the movie for the first time.

Firstly, I find it impossible to mark out any faults with this movie. The soundtrack, plot, acting and on screen chemistry is faultless. Unable to predict the unfolding of the plot, Mel Gibson has directed one of the most gripping and entertaining movies of all time. Having first watched Braveheart for the first time in the late 90's, It has inspired my entire life. The portrayal of William Wallace's courage and bravery is not only inspirational but also infectious to it's audience. It's twists and turns take you on an emotional roller-coaster that almost has you interacting at points. Everything in this movie is inch perfect. Certain critics of the film have scrapped the barrel in bringing out the 'historical inaccuracy' card however such inaccuracies as an item of clothing are no reason to take credit away from this masterpiece. Braveheart in my opinion is the greatest film ever made, not only for it's screenplay but the story of one man's passion, determination and courage to reclaim justice to the people of his country.

Since 1995 this movie is a masterpiece from the epic dialogue, battles to the Memoral music of James Horner. This movie delivers everything a movie lover could ask for. The 4k does show somewhat since the movie was made somewhere in 1994-1995 the sound and picture are a bit outdated meaning the picture is fuzzy and clear at the same time. The sound is so clear you can hear some things that are not natural of the movie to be such as low ringing or very low buzzing. Wish they remastered it like they did with terminator 2.

A classic movie that is now considered an epic masterpiece. It may be historically inaccurate, but it is still a brilliantly told story. Treat it as historical fiction and enjoy the show. The UHD disc is the best this movie has ever looked. Such a brilliant transfer and the HDR makes the colors pop like never before. The steelbook is beautiful and makes a great collectors piece. Don't miss it.

Braveheart is an expertly-executed historical war drama that brings a larger than life character to the screen with messages about loyalty and honor and mankind's quests to be unburdened by unjust leaders. As a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, I love what Paramount has achieved this spring and can't wait to see as many 4K scans of catalog titles as they can put out. Blu-ray was (and is) a very good format, but 4K with HDR and hemispherical surround sound takes everything to the next level. More detail, more color, more contrast, more immersion. Braveheart has never looked, nor sounded this good. Highly Recommended.

I have Braveheart on VH, DVD, then Blue Ray so it seemed right to get the 4K Steel book. Just got a brand new Sony 4K TV and this looks fantastic. The clarity is great. The battle scenes so much better with the Dolby sound. The movie is great now the picture and sound are great.
