Great machine. there is a bit of a learning curve at first but once you get the hang of it you can really make some amazing coffee with it. You just need patience and quality beans..... It is a bit loud though, especially the steam wand. Mainly giving 4 stars because my first machine had a faulty steam wand but it started to malfunction within the first 2 weeks so I was able to replace it and the 2nd time around I put the protection plan on it. Also it is a bit noisy especially for first thing in the morning. It kind of makes a shrieking sound.

If you're looking for a high-quality espresso machine that brings the coffeehouse experience into your home, the Breville Barista Express BES870XL is an excellent choice. As a coffee enthusiast, I was eager to see if this machine lived up to its reputation, and it did not disappoint. Key Features: 1. 15-Bar Italian Pump: The 15-bar Italian pump is a standout feature, ensuring that you get a rich, flavorful espresso every time. The pressure is consistent, which is crucial for achieving that perfect crema on top of your espresso shots. 2. 25-Shot Capacity: With a 25-shot capacity, this machine is perfect for hosting friends and family or simply for those days when you need multiple cups of coffee to get through the day. It's a great balance between a home and commercial machine. 3. Low-Pressure Pre-Infusion: The low-pressure pre-infusion is a game-changer. It gently expands the coffee grinds before the high-pressure extraction process, ensuring even extraction and preventing any bitter or uneven flavors. This results in a smooth and balanced espresso shot every time. 4. Built-in Burr Grinder: One of the standout features is the built-in conical burr grinder, which allows you to grind your beans fresh for each shot. You can adjust the grind size and dose, giving you complete control over your coffee-making process. Freshly ground beans make a noticeable difference in the flavor and aroma of the espresso. 5. User-Friendly Interface: The interface is straightforward and easy to use, even for beginners. The machine comes with clear instructions, and the learning curve is quite manageable. The pressure gauge is a helpful tool for monitoring the extraction process. 6. Quality Build: The Breville Barista Express is built to last. It has a sturdy, stainless steel construction that not only looks sleek but also ensures durability. The components feel high-quality, and the overall design is well thought out. Performance: I've been consistently impressed with the performance of the Breville Barista Express. It heats up quickly, allowing me to make my morning espresso without any long waits. The steam wand works well for frothing milk, making it easy to create lattes and cappuccinos. The espresso shots are consistently excellent, with a rich and bold flavor that rivals my favorite coffee shop. Overall, the Breville Barista Express BES870XL is a fantastic investment for any coffee lover. It offers a blend of convenience, performance, and quality that is hard to beat at this price point. Whether you're an espresso aficionado or a casual coffee drinker, this machine will elevate your coffee experience. Highly recommended!

ACTUALLY did away with the Starbucks cravings...

You know how when, you try the "healthy" version of a sauce, or a "fat free" version of a food to save some calories. But deep down you're really just craving a stinkin quesadilla? That is NOT the case when buying your own espresso machine, particularly a good one like this. We had amazing espresso all over Italy when we toured in August, and American coffee just wasn't hitting right anymore. So we did the logical thing... buy our own espresso maker. We bought this thing on Black Friday 2023, even though it was NOT on sale because the reviews were so consistently better than the units that WERE on sale. We literally haven't gone to Starbucks since purchasing (writing a little over a month later) and have zero cravings to do so. Literally none. And we used to go DAILY. Sometimes twice and shamefully even 3 times per day. Nope! Not anymore. Don't even feel the need or want. Mind you, we BOTH work FROM HOME about a block away from starbucks and WANT to take breaks to leave the house... Just not to a coffee shop anymore. Now. My fiance was a barista for like 8 years, and she knows her way around this thing. So I have a built in "coffee coach" and that is definitely an advantage. But to be honest, even learning how to make your own espresso from scratch would be a fun new hobby/craft if you're into that sort of thing. That would be just as enjoyable with the world wide web at your fingertips. There is one downside, making your own espresso is kind of messy and high maintenance. Not much can be done about that, it's just the nature of the beast. Still faster than going to the store though, so measure your own values. I didn't ACTUALLY think of it as an INVESTMENT because I thought the cravings would still be there and we would "break" and go back to coffee shops. But it truly is an investment, and we have already saved well over $100 in just the first month since purchasing, even after buying special beans and dairy free milks and creams. We boujee round here. But we'll genuinely save money and be net positive in just a few months. And I can't recommend it any more highly. Treat yoself... AND your friends and family... Just get it. You won't regret it. (Breville, please hit me up for sponsorship, I got you)

I'm somewhat of a newbie when it comes to making good quality espressos or other coffees. I had a low end espresso maker and did not know the differences between good espresso machines. I wanted to invest in a higher quality espresso that also had an integrated grinder. I did some research and Breville always as one of the higher quality brands. I found this model on sale at $650 and with some BestBuy rewards that I had, as well as other credit card rewards, I only ended up paying $260 for it. I'm very happy with this purchase as I can finally make quality and very flavorful espressos and Americanos. Its very easy to learn how to use it. I also purchased the Breville knock box for an easy cleanup of the grinds from the coffee filter. I highly recommend this Braville espresso machine that will save you space, time and money in the long run by not going to the over priced coffee shops.

I’ve had the Breville Barista Express for a few weeks now and honestly, I’m obsessed. It does take a little time to get the hang of dialing in the grind and shot timing, but once you figure it out, the espresso tastes amazing — way better than what I used to grab from coffee shops. The built-in grinder is super convenient, and the steam wand actually makes great microfoam (took me a few tries, though). I’ve been making lattes and americanos almost every day and it’s become part of my morning routine. It looks really nice on my kitchen counter, and cleaning hasn’t been too bad either. If you're into coffee and want to level up from a basic machine or pods, this is totally worth it.

SO pleaed with this purchase. I have owned several different brands of espresso machines, and this one offers the power, ease of use and cleanup, awesome final product, sleek design and coat effectiveness that i seeked out. It checked all the marks off my list of wants for a home espresso machine that is good enough for a former professional barista. I have no negatives to write thus far other than in the morning when i get up, i don't really like waiting 15 minutes for the machine to correctly heat up and be ready for use. You CAN use it before that, but i promise you're going to want to give it that time if you want the best cup of espresso you can get from it. So, its not a flaw in the product, but more so a flaw in my patience. :) Once you find the perfect settings and bean, you are good to go for amazing coffee house comparable lattes! I no longer get drinks af coffee houses, so this product will quickly end up paying for itself. Take a chance on it if you want to enter the world of becoming your own home barista.

I've always been a latte girl. I love coffee in general, but always prefer a latte. I've had a Keurig for several years, then added on a Nespresso, and got rid of it. Did not enjoy the Nespresso that much. I've had my eye on this for a little over 2 years now, and never bit the bullet. Finally did and I LOVE IT! It has a built in coffee grinder at the top and after their step by step instruction + Youtube videos, this was SUPER easy to use. Great quality machine, I highly recommend it.

This Breville espresso machine has been a great addition to my kitchen. It’s perfect for coffee lovers who enjoy experimenting and making quality drinks at home. The machine delivers rich espresso shots and has a solid build with an attractive design. It only comes with the basic accessories, but thankfully additional parts are easy to find on other platforms. The main drawback I’ve experienced is that less than a month after use, I noticed the first signs of rust on the bottom of the body, which was disappointing for a machine in this price range. Other than that, it works very well and makes excellent coffee.

The Breville Barista Express is the new best friend you didn’t know you needed. This is my first espresso machine and I love it! Very user friendly, just set the settings the manual says to start with and then tweak it from there. My machine was pulling long shots out of the box so that did have to be reprogrammed which was simple. I had to purchase a espresso measuring cup to get the proper shot amount though to program it. Cost like 10 bucks on Amazon. I also ended up purchasing a bottomless/naked portafilter. The one it comes with works fine, I personally did this to perfect my shot because it will let you know if your tamp is off. Lol I’m a iced espresso drinker (love my iced macchiato) so I don’t really use the milk wand. I did try it out though and it does make amazing frothy milk. I do use it occasionally to steam milk for making hot chocolate for my daughter which she says comes out perfect. Only con is I thought I would be saving money by not buying a 5+ dollar coffee a few times a week but now I’m making drinks everyday and my money is going into beans. I can’t stop buying beans. I want to try all the different origins and roasts. I have become a bean snob! If that is ok with you then you also need this machine in your life. Also do not put Flavored beans through your grinder! I have read a lot of horror stories on this. If you really need your chocolate raspberry beans just buy those preground and use your dual wall basket for those. You really don’t want to mess up the grinder with flavored beans. One last thing, you will also want to purchase a knock box for the used puck because you really don’t want to be whacking your portafilter on your trash can every time. Yuck. Extra purchased items: Tamp Matt, knock box, custom shot glasses to split a shot using the included portafilter (also just wanted them lol), measuring oz cup and beans galore. I only truly recommend getting a knock box. Sorry for the long read but I hope it helps

Been in the market for an espresso machine for awhile, but didn't want to commit to spending hundreds of dollars on just any of them. My friend has this one, so I had some experience beforehand. Buying it myself confirmed it was a wise purchase. I don't have any experience with other espresso machines, but this one is very easy to use. Definitely a good idea to read some instructions and watch some videos, since it's not as simple as a Nespresso machine. The quality is great, and it feels like a durable machine that will hopefully last me awhile. My only real complaint is a minor one: I wish I had more control over the milk steamer. It's either on or off. But besides that, it works great. I do want to look into other espresso machines that do more eventually, but until I upgrade, I'm satisfied with this one. Definitely a good choice if you've wanted an espresso machine and looking for one that's not too cheap but not too expensive

If you’ve ever dreamed of bringing the café into your kitchen, the Breville Barista Express 870 is basically your golden ticket. From the moment you flip the switch, the machine feels like it’s inviting you into the world of coffee craft. The first shot I pulled had that beautiful golden crema — the kind you usually only see when a barista hands you your drink with a smile. The built-in grinder makes it ridiculously convenient: beans in, espresso out. No juggling separate gadgets. And then there’s the steam wand. It’s not just for hot milk — it creates that silky, glossy foam that practically begs for latte art. With a bit of practice, you’ll be pouring hearts, tulips, or at least something abstract that tastes amazing. Sure, the first week feels like training camp. You’ll get a few sour or bitter shots, maybe even a mess on the counter. But once you dial in the grind and your tamping pressure, the payoff is worth it — rich, balanced coffee that makes mornings feel a little more luxurious. Cleaning? Yeah, it takes effort. But hey, so does making anything worthwhile in the kitchen. Bottom line: The 870 isn’t just a machine. It’s a ritual, a hobby, and a way to make café-quality drinks without ever leaving home.

My wife was diagnosed with diabetes and can no longer indulge in sweets. However she still is a big coffee fan and drinks her coffee black with cream. So this was our first venture into home espresso machines. After reading countless reviews, I was comfortable buying the Breville Barista Express. It was cheaper than most higher end espresso machines. This is due to the older technology. But older isn't bad. There are pros and cons to each machine. I wanted a quality coffee or cappuccino and this BBE delivers just that. I've had this machine for almost a month. I've never pulled a shot of espresso before this BBE entered my kitchen. I will honestly say that I've personally never made a cup of coffee of this quality before. I've owned the K pod system for years and thought the personal choice of coffee was a game changer. I was wrong. This BBE will bring excitement into your life. Your taste buds will slap you for denying them this pleasure before you purchased this yourself. Do your family and friends a favor and buy the Breville Barista Express. At 699 this thing is worth it.

My wife and I absolutely love our Breville Barista Express. It’s super easy to use, even if you’re new to making espresso at home, and the espresso tastes amazing every time. What we really enjoy is how customizable it is. You can tweak everything—grind size, shot volume, temperature—to get your coffee just the way you like it. It’s been a lot of fun dialing everything in and experimenting with different settings. For the price, it’s a great buy. The machine feels sturdy and well-made, and I can see it lasting us a lifetime with proper care. If you’re thinking about upgrading your coffee game, this is the one to get. Highly recommend!

I’ve been using the Breville Barista Express for about four months now, and I have to say, it’s been an overall fantastic addition to my kitchen. As someone who loves a good cup of coffee every day, this machine has really elevated my home brewing experience. The espresso shots come out consistently great, and the built-in grinder is a huge plus, allowing me to make freshly ground coffee every time. The steam wand is powerful enough for making lattes and cappuccinos, and I’ve been able to perfect my milk frothing skills with ease. The overall build quality feels solid, and the machine has a sleek, professional look that fits well in my kitchen. That said, I’ve run into an issue that’s been a bit frustrating: after about four months of daily use, the plastic on the top tray has started to chip from the heat. I wasn’t expecting this kind of wear on a product at this price point, especially since it’s supposed to be designed for regular use. I’m hopeful that it will be covered under the warranty, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re considering this model. Overall, I still think it’s a great machine for the price, and I’m enjoying my coffee every day. Just be cautious with the heat exposure on the plastic parts over time. It’s definitely a solid choice for espresso lovers, just with a minor flaw in the long-term durability.

The best machine in its class. I am a former barista and spent years trying to find an affordable but comparable option to the ones I have used in coffee shops. This has weight to it and is not cheaply made. Highly reliable (you still need to maintain it will regular cleanings). My only complaint would be that the water tank needs to be bigger but that's just nit picking at this point it's already pretty big. I have been using this reliably and dependably everyday two to three times a day (4 person household). Never an issue. Also it comes with loads of filters and cup sizes. We replaced a single serve pod machine (bc husband loved those types) and have been using this for americano's, espresso's, latte's, you name it.

Incredible beginner friendly espresso machine. We have used it every day for the past couple years. It's grinder works just fine, don't listen to the gear snobs. The steam wand also works just fine. Are the grinder and steam wands the best they could be? Sure, they could be better, but these things work perfectly adequate, if not better, but this machine is for the folks wanting to get into espresso. Get it all in one. The main function of the unit, being the making of espresso, works phenomenally. For those that are having issues with it, watch a video or two or read the manual, espresso is not as simple as your classic coffeemate drip machine.

I have to start off by saying this is the best gift ever. My wife bought this for me for Christmas and it is used all the time. Now that we are working from home this is used double time. The drinks are always perfect, its easy to clean and operate. The auto grinder tends to put a tad bit to much grinds in the espresso port filter but this is really no big deal. The frothier works fast and easy to wipe off with a wet paper towel. We love the single/double shot option. We found the setting that works for us and left it there. It did take a few tries before we got dialed in. If you can swing it I was suggest picking this up. We have shown this to other people who then went and bought one and they love it as well.

Was a little hesitant with the purchase of this machine due to the size and cost but after researching various brands and styles decided on this one. Fits a little close under cabinet but still manageable. Considering it has a grinder saves on space. Takes a little trial and error getting the proper ratio of grounds in the filter and the milk frothing process but gets better in a short time. Results is a very good at home espresso/ cappuccino anytime you want rather than what you would pay places like Starbucks. I've owned a mini espresso and a couple coffee/ espresso combos and have to say this is solid being mostly stainless steel and not a lot of plastic as others. I use this machine at least once a day and am very happy with it so far hoping the quality and longevity justifies the cost.
