    Another great Spielberg film

At this point in his career, Steven Spielberg has given us so many great films, that he can be easily taken for granted, and the initial reactions to Bridge of Spies is proof of that. When the first reviews came out most of them could be boiled down to "it's just another Spielberg drama." But is that a bad thing? Bridge of Spies features a fantastic script, performances, and top-notch crafts. It might feel like a pedestrian effort for the guy who agave us Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan, but even the it is a masterpiece when compared to most films out there.

This movie is about an American lawyer is recruited by the CIA during the Cold War to help rescue a pilot detained in the Soviet Union. Disney's Blu-ray release delivers startling 1080p video, expert lossless sound, and several bonus features. Important note for Disney Movie Rewards members: this movie doesn't have a code that you can redeem for Disney Movie Rewards points. This is because it is a Dreamworks production and only distributed by Disney.

This film is quality in every aspect. Its Best Picture nomination was well-deserved, and personally, I think it should have won. The acting is superb, which is why Mark Rylance won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. If you're like me and are fascinated by American history, particularly in the 20th Century, you will likely enjoy this film. Bridge of Spies brings to life one of the many intriguing stories of the Cold War and does a wonderful job of illustrating just how high the tensions were between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.

This is a fascinating film I saw on a plane back to the USA from the UK. I loved it so much I dashed out and bought it as soon as it came out. Tom Hanks plays a top lawyer who does some clandestine negotiating on behalf of the US Government but with no official backing from them. It shows the events that led up to the successful prisoner exchange of downed U2 Spyplane pilot Francis Gary Powers, but also other back story elements of the deal that aren't well known. Utterly engrossing and about a topic seldom covered before.

This is a Spielberg film. The movie is full of beautiful shots that show us the way of life in that period of time. From the cars, to the streets, to the clothing, everything is beautifully coordinated to make you feel like you just traveled in time. I felt that the movie was not as compelling and heart felt as we are used to from other Spielbergs movies, but is still a good film. Tom Hanks proves once again what a great actor he is. He is definitely varying the entire weight of the movies from beginning to end.

    Tom Hanks/Spies/Cold War Drama

Tom Hanks is at the top of his game in this Cold War drama, when the Iron Curtain rises in Berlin. Hank's character is called to be the spy's defense attorney. No one wants to touch it but, he believes everyone deserves fair representation in a court of law, even a spy. Others do not quite see it that way. The crowd wants his head and are enraged when they do not get it. Events occur later that, in the end, only strengthen the stance he originally was ridiculed for. Based on real events.

This is an older movie that I have never seen.Since the price was right and I am a Tom Hanks fan, so I decided to buy it. I have to admit, it is a great movie and very well done. Also it is based upon true events, which I also like.

Bridge of Spies is a genuinely smart and surprisingly suspenseful film about the value - and cost - of maintaining a moral compass in situations that could lead even the best person astray. Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg re-team to tell the story of the insurance lawyer who defended Soviet spy Rudolf Hess (played by Mark Rylance in an Oscar-winning performance), and then, some years later, helped the US trade Hess to the Soviet Union in exchange for Francis Gary Powers, who was shot down over Russia while piloting an alleged spy plane. The movie has some slow moments, but it doesn't bog down; it plays like a thoughtful suspense picture that could have been made by Hitchcock. It's well-worth a viewing.

    A Great, Mature Film

Spielberg has made an outstanding film about the Cold War. Mark Rylance winning the Oscar shows that subtlety and dignity of performance sometimes can prevail over the "flashier" supporting roles (nothing against Tom Hardy's brilliant role in the Revenant, however). It needed a John Williams score to make this an all-time classic in my opinion. But, the every-man Tom Hanks succeeds in simplifying the themes of an era now looked at like ancient history to kids today.

Bridge of Spies is is an engaging and thrilling motion picture with fine acting by all of the players. This movie reminds me of the great pictures of yesterday where dialogue and character development were the hallmarks of engaging films. The Blu-ray package is fine delivering a great HD viewing experience with interesting bonus material and a digital download. This is a movie that I'll view many times which is a good reason to have the film in my library.

Tom Hanks delivers another great performance, It is at a time when the United States and Russia were starting the cold war. This true story tells of a lawyer turned negotiator that helped return a fallen soldier and a student escape the repression of the Soviet Union in exchange for a Russian spy. The Spy becomes a good friend and I really enjoyed this story and the way Spielberg can only tell it. Even better that it is a real story about a real person.

Acting, story, and directing - all masterfully done as can be expected from almost every Spielberg film. Following 2013's "Lincoln", he has once again outdone himself in making a gripping historical thriller, with yet another outstanding performance from Hanks. What truly defines a masterpiece of historical drama is the feeling of utter suspense you feel despite already having some idea how the story will end. This is one of those kinds of movies.

It's one of those movies that "stay with you" long after the credits have rolled by. I didn’t get a chance to see this film when it was released in the theater but sometimes it just nicer to view it at home for the first time. Tom Hanks did an extraordinary job playing the role of an American lawyer walking through Berlin while the Berlin Wall was being built. Mark Rylance also did a superb job playing the role of the soviet spy.

Based on a true story movies can be hit or miss. This movie for its story is very good. It tells how an average joe kinda guy, nobody special finds himself in the middle of a prisoner exchange deal between Russia and the USA that takes place in Germany before the wall fell. You cannot make this stuff up. Did I love it? No, will I watch it again? Yes, the acting was very good and it's one of those movies you start watching and then all the sudden it's over. The true test was my wife, she made it all the way through it on a week night after 10pm, so there has to be something to the movie that makes it great I just can't put my finger on it.

If you liked Lincoln than you'll love this one. If you thought Lincoln was a bit slow then you'll also love this one. The film has a great script with wonderful acting by the cast just like Lincoln did, but the difference is in the pace of the film. This film truly moves with its characters and has a great flair of humor involved this dramatic and suspenseful story. The surround sound on the film is gorgeous and so is the picture.

I have now watched the movie "Bridge of Spies" twice. No loud car chases, no shoot 'em up loud scenes, just a great thought provoking movie about Cold War tensions {Based on a true story). Maybe the youth of today will think twice about their lives and the freedoms they have because of the brave men and women who came before them. Even an average insurance lawyer who goes beyond the norm for his country.

WOW! I'm old enough to remember, dimly, the event of Francis Gary Powers being shot down while over the USSR. It made us look bad at a time when we didn't want to hear that. I never knew the rest of the story, and it is a great tale. This is a movie that is excellent in all respects! That's rare in my experience and I am a life-long lover of movies. Not every great movie can get the Oscar. This was a worthy contender!
