The movie follows the life and struggles of an Irish immigrant who finds how difficult it is to start a life for herself in NY when everything she has ever known and loved are all back home in Ireland.
The movie was very simplistic, which captures how life was back then. Saoirse Ronan was so pleasant to look at, and made all the scenes involving herself visually captivating.

The film was intriguing and compelling. The acting, cinematography, and storyline stay true to the era in which the oil took place.

This movie is full of so much: great cast, love story, visuals. It takes you to a time forgotten but often thought about. It explores not only American culture in that era, but Irish as well. The film gives you laughs and cries. An emotional and time era journey.

With a deft touch, that respects a wonderful novel, the makers of this film bring "Brooklyn" alive. Saoirse Ronan & Emory Cohen as Eilis Lacey & Anthony Fiorello, respectively are perfectly cast. This is not a chick flick...it is a couples evening entertainment.

This was most definetly the best of the Best Picture nominees in 2015. Great story of an Irish imigrant finding not only a new life, but love in Brooklyn, New York. Then to have life throw her a curveball and rethink everything in her life. A must own. Fantasic

This is a small, beautiful little film that at its core is a very simple story of finding love and oneself. The acting is beautiful, the direction simple yet done in a classic approach. You will find yourself with a smile on your face after watching this film.

A subtle, simple, sweet, honest and almost old-fashioned kind of movie that tugged at my heartstrings. Features a well-deserved Oscar-nominated lead performance by Saoirse Ronan, one of my favorite younger actresses (loved her work in Atonement, The Lovely Bones and Hanna among other movies). Also received a Best Picture Oscar nomination. In short, a wonderful movie.

As am an action movie type of guy. I got this movie more for my wife then me. However, I ended up liking it much more then my wife. It is a fabulous story about an Irish girl coming to America. It really enthralled me in total throughout the movie.

I saw this movie in the theatre on a recommendation of a friend. It was wonderful. I think it would be of particular interest to those of Irish ancestry. But anyone that is of any nationality that emigrated to the US will enjoy and treasure this movie.

1950 Irish family setting about two closely nit sisters,
One the youngest, moving to the U.S. and the other remaining
In Ireland. The story is easy to follow and simple to understand.
While in America the younger sister meets a young man and begins
a meaningful life. But fate intervenes and a sudden return to Ireland becomes necessary. It does not end there.

Everything about this film is beautiful: the performances, writing, directing, cinematography, costumes, music, and production design. Saoirse Ronan and Emory Cohen give two of the year's best performances!! Very reminiscent of Avalon or Moonstruck.

My wife loves the movie and watches it over and over again. If a DVD would wear out from being played too many times, this is one that would take it. For me, it is OK. For my wife, up there as a favorite of all time.

This was a beautiful movie and much more than I had expected. It was a well done movie about a woman who left her home country to come to America. Having to chose between homes and love interests you find yourself guessing how everything will end.

I first borrowed this from library & enjoyed it so much I wanted to own the DVD. Lovely story of a girl growing into a woman as she starts a new life in America while still being drawn to her past. Also, this is based on a novel.

Although this film was nominated for several Oscars, it did not win any. However, this well-deserved masterpiece should be a mainstay in any drama lovers' blu-ray/DVD library. It's an amazingly emotional immigrant story/film one should own!

This movie was a very "nice" movie. It was uplifting and enjoyable to watch. There was no vulgarity or gory violence to deal with. The story was a good one, a historical type of movie about growth and relationships and learning to adapt.
This review is from Brooklyn - DVD

I absolutely loved this film and if I had to watch a chick flick with my wife I would grab this from the bin! I could add in a lot of the story, but just buy it and enjoy! The scenery, props, everything is beautiful!

However, she has a past from the old world that threatens her life in the new world. She must choose between two countries and lives to find her own place in the world.
