To start, this printer has been the easiest, fastest printer to set up that I've ever used. I have used several before, and there was always some kind of hiccup with 2.4 GHz issues, bugs that needed firmware updates, etc. Here, I turned on the printer, scanned the barcode, and I was up and running within three minutes. So easy and headache-free. That alone is worth mentioning. Now, the other surprising factor is the size. On the side of the box it says “print, scan, fax all-in-one compact printer.” This is not a compact printer unless you are comparing it to a full-scale office printer. In that case, yes. Compared to typical home printer sizes, it's huge. I put a picture of it next to my past HP OfficeJet, and it's at least 25% bigger. This is not a negative per se—just pointing it out if you're wondering about the form factor. With that size comes an amazing machine. It's able to handle all types of paper, from 11x17 all the way down to envelopes and photo printing. So far, nothing has jammed. Everything has moved smoothly and printed quickly and efficiently. And this printer is fast! The print quality is on par with the best I've used—vibrant, true to life, and a good representation. Like many printers, blacks and grays in headers can fade over time, but I expect that with any copy machine. The touchscreen is very responsive, easy to read, and extremely bright. My wife had an issue with our last printer because she wears readers and constantly had to call me over to read what the text said. No issue here. With a larger printer came a larger screen, and with its adjustable angles, it's very easy for anyone to use. One feature in a printer that we have grown attached to is the top-feed scanner. Unfortunately, with my last printer, depending on the document size, you would constantly get jams and/or pages not separating correctly. So far, I've had no issues here. I loaded a stack of documents, and they went through smoothly, copied, and printed with no problems. This also included small brochure cards that I needed to scan. Because this printer is large, the huge flatbed scanner comes in handy when scanning larger documents that my daughter may need for school. With the ease of the PC connection, scanning to a computer is very simple, whether using Windows built-in software or the Brother software. Another small note I would like to mention is the cable management. The power cable is right-angled, and the Ethernet and fax ports are underneath the scanner bed, so they're out of the way. This means I can place it against the wall without having to reach behind the printer to attach cables, while still having easy access if they need to be connected or disconnected. A simple feature, but well thought out. The free software that comes with this printer has plenty of options. If you are creative, have someone in school, or run a business looking for good templates, there are lots of things to choose from. With so many possibilities, it creates its own workstation in one. One thing I haven't set up is the inkjet refill service. My preference is to stay away from this based on past experiences, but if you use it, it seems pretty easy to set up. I'm really glad they allow you to register your printer without having to sign up for the service. My last printer made it a necessity and made changing out ink cartridges very tedious. I think I've covered everything. After using this printer, I don't see myself changing it out or switching anytime soon. It has been excellent in all its executions and adds features that I never thought I would use in a printer. It is huge, but with that size comes excellent capability.

The Brother INKvestment 6960 Wireless Color All-in-One Inkjet Printer is one of Brother’s latest offerings. This is a powerhouse of a printer with features that make it suitable for both residential or commercial applications. These include dual paper trays, multipurpose tray, single-pass duplex copy and scan, automatic duplex printing, and paper capabilities up to 11 x 17”; this printer is a standout option. IN THE BOX: Brother MFC-J6960DW Printer Starter Ink Cartridges Power Cable Product Safety Guide,Quick Setup Guide SETUP: Upon unboxing, you’ll immediately notice the size of this machine. It measures approximately 18” deep and 24” wide. Make sure you have enough room to fit this machine comfortably including the multipurpose tray in the rear. This can be closed to sit flush against the wall but it will need an additional 2” or so of space if you plan on using it. Once plugged in, the printer boots up to a screen with a QR code that allows setup via mobile device or you can select the traditional method of setting it up manually on the screen, connecting it to Wi-Fi (or ethernet), and finding the machine on your computer or connected device. I chose to set it up via the latter method and it worked flawlessly. Once connected to my Wi-fi with the ink installed, it prompted for a software update which took about 2-3 minutes. It will ask you to calibrate the print head by placing a specific printed sheet onto the scanner during setup. USAGE: It is recommended to download the desktop and/or mobile app to use this printer although it is not necessary. I installed the Brother application on my computer which allowed for control of the printer, settings adjustments, and additional features. Typically I am only printing on a regular 8.5 x 11” printer/copy paper so it’s nice to have two trays. One that holds the normal paper and one that holds other sizes that I may want to use. All of the trays have labels for the adjustable paper holders so you know that you are installing the paper correctly. One of the things I noticed right away was the fact the printed paper comes out sideways vs other printers that print vertically. This is likely due to the fact this printer can handle 11 x 17” paper. The print quality looks great. Of course this is a brand new machine and it should look good but the colors are vibrant and lines are crisp. The scanner is massive and allows for duplex scanning via the feeder tray on the top. This is a great time saver as you aren’t having to manually flip the page over each time. The multifunction tray is also very nice for printing items you may only do once in a while so you don’t need to change out the paper tray. OVERALL: The Brother INKvestment 6960 Wireless Color All-in-One Inkjet Printer has been a pleasure to use. Given the features it has to offer the only real downside is the size. If you are planning to put this in a home office or smaller desk space, I would highly recommend measuring first to make sure you have a comfortable amount of space. The second paper tray makes it sit up taller than most printers as well. Even with this slight negative, I would recommend this printer to anyone looking for a high end and capable printer that should last for many years with great flexibility.

I’ve been putting the Brother MFC-J6960DW through its daily paces, and for a busy office, it’s a serious workhorse. If your workflow involves a lot of 11x17 documents, the value here is hard to beat. Right out of the box, the size is the first thing you notice. It’s a large machine, but it has to be to handle the bigger paper sizes. Setup was actually pretty painless using the mobile app, though I hit a small snag trying to connect to an open Wi-Fi network. I ended up just finishing the connection on the printer’s touchscreen, which was easy enough and got me up and running quickly. In terms of speed, this thing is fast. Whether it's standard black-and-white forms or full-color charts, it doesn't lag. The text is sharp, and the color fidelity—especially on photo paper—is impressive. I haven't run into any of the usual annoyances like streaks or misaligned pages so far. The best feature for me is how it handles 11x17. The duplex scanning and copying on the larger format are great. The document feeder is reliable, too—I’ve run multi-page jobs through it without a single jam or skewed page. Having two trays (500 sheets in the main and 100 in the multipurpose) is a huge convenience; I can keep my standard letter paper in one and 11x17 or photo paper in the other without constantly having to get up and swap them out. Software and Connectivity The Mobile Connect app is actually well-designed and reliable, which isn't always the case with printer software. I can print straight from my phone without any issues. It also works with Google Drive and OneDrive for scanning. The connection has been rock solid using my laptop, desktop, or phone—no "printer not found" errors or random disconnects. The Bottom Line It’s a quiet, efficient that Mutifunction Printer/Scanner/Fax that just works. The ink usage seems low so far, and the cost per page is very reasonable for a business setting. If you need a printer that can handle larger formats and high-volume duplexing without constant hand-holding, this is a great investment.

    Fast, sharp, versatile!

I am so delighted with this printer!!! Fast, sharp and clear! But there's more... This printer takes paper sizes up to 11 x17.... and duplexes, so you can print a folded newsletter or poster! Envelopes, labels, really just about anything. But let's go to the beginning of my exploration. First, this printer is HEAVY. Very heavy. You need two people to pick it up and carry and unbox it. The printer also has a large footprint: the base is 16d x 22w, but is is 32 inches deep with the back media feeder open and the 'catch' tray in front fully open. Total height is about 15 inches without the scanner lid open. So make sure you have help to move it and a place to put it! This printer fills all of my needs! Setting up the printer was fairly straight-forward. Just follow quick setup instructions. I will say that the phone app was less useful than doing it the standard connect way via bluetooth. The ink is easy to install from the front and comes in long-lasting containers. filling the paper cassettes is a breeze to adjust to paper size. Do take the time to update firmware/software for the printer before you get started. Now, the functioning of the printer. I am so please with this printer!!! Very very fast and very accurate. I really like that I have so many paper options. Currently I have regular paper in one 500 sheet cassette and labels in another. In the back pass-through sector I have #10 envelopes. No moving media around to get work done. I used the top feeder to scan documents and to copy documents and am super pleased with the smooth feeding of the documents and the resulting scans and copies. I would strongly recommend this printer for anyone with multiple users who does a lot of scanning and printing. Also, I have printed from throughout my home and office, from tablets, computers and phones, and it was seamless! I have a multi-band wifi and that has caused problems in the past with the 5 level band, but this printer has not hiccuped once!

This has turned out to be a reliable and full featured printer that would be great for any small office or a home that needs more than a basic printer. The printer is on the large size. Definitely something to keep in mind. But the large size is necessary to accommodate the 11x17 printing and scanning ability. This is for me the biggest reason to own this printer. Having the ability to go “big” is a major advantage over other printers in this category. It seems well made and solid. It doesn’t feel like it’s going to give out in a years time like other printers I’ve had. The four ink cartridges are very easy to install and so far seem as if they will last a long time. Haven’t had to replace one yet so time will tell. The Wi-Fi connection has been solid with no drops in signal. Print speeds are good and overall it doesn’t seem overly noisy. The paper trays have a large capacity as well. As a scanner, it works well with good resolution. The overall quality of the printer both in build and print/scan quality is excellent and easily justify the large footprint of the printer. Highly recommended!

When UPS brought the box to my door, I was shocked by the box size! Could the printer truly be that big? Why YES, yes it is! I'm not sure what I expected with a printer that can handle 11x17 inch paper. I literally unpacked it in my living room. I'm glad it came in plastic wrap with handles that helped remove it from the box with a little more ease than I expected. Used the plastic to drag it down the hallway and into the office and with the hand holds at the bottom, I was able to lift into place. It was a bit lighter than I really expected. It is lighter than the color laser printer in my shop. I got it plugged in, turned on and followed on screen prompts to get ink installed and printer set up on my phone. I like the mobile app dashboard and ease of use. I also attempted to install on my laptop. I followed the directions to go to the website and download the executable. When trying to run the program, it kept telling me that there was no network connection. Uhh sure there was. I went to the website and downloaded the file. I tried numerous times and finally decided to come back to that later. All prints from my phone looked fantastic and printed very quickly. I came back to the pc installation the next day and that time it went very smoothly. At the time of writing this, there is a firmware upgrade. I have already forgotten the printer password I created, so I will have to do a factory reset to finish that upgrade but it's something I'll revisit in a few days. I think this printer is a great addition to my small business and allow me to create larger prints and posters for my marketing. I'm also looking forward to saving money in ink. I highly recommend this printer.

Brother makes the best printers. The Brother INKvestment 6960 is a much welcomed addition to our home office/business. It comes packed with features that make using the printer a delightful experience. We had been using an Epson printer previous to us switching to Brother. I think we would get about 150-200 pages printed before we would be at the store or online ordering new ink. It was not a great experience as we would find out we were low on ink before starting a new job. The INKvestment line up of printers boasts a higher yield in pages printed! We haven’t had to purchase any ink for our previous INKVestment printer. The printer has everything that we need and then some. I love that I can load up to 500 pages between the two trays. It makes bulk printing a set it and forget it task. The printer is able to go through 31 pages per minute which is just ludicrous. Even with its insane printing capacity and speed there is not a fall off of quality. All of my prints have been crisp with no noticeable degradation in quality. I have not tried printing on larger formats of paper just yet. I am very excited to put it through its paces as we have flyers that we were going to have to send off to print. Setting up the printer was a very simple process as well. The screen is clear and the buttons on screen respond well. I was able to get the printer setup on my wireless network with little hassle. I think it only took about 20 minutes from getting the box in our house to get to printing. If you are looking for a large capacity and large format printer this is the one for you.

    INKvestment tanks are legit!

I got the Brother INKvestment 6960 (MFCJ6960DW) mainly because I needed something that could handle serious color printing without draining my wallet every month — and it’s been solid. First off, the color printing is legit. The reds are deep, greens pop (which matters for what I print), and gradients don’t band or streak like cheaper inkjets. When I print sticker sheets or 11x17 layouts, the detail stays crisp. It doesn’t muddy dark areas, and blacks actually look black — not that faded charcoal gray some printers give you. For regular documents, it’s fast. For color-heavy prints, it’s surprisingly consistent. I’ve run full-page color sheets back-to-back and it doesn’t start fading halfway through like older models I’ve owned. Lines stay sharp, text stays clean, and the alignment is on point. Now the big thing: INKvestment tanks. This is honestly why I’d get it again. The cartridges last way longer than standard ink carts. I’m not constantly getting that “low ink” message after printing 40 pages. The cost per page is noticeably better, especially if you print color often. It feels more like a refill system without actually being a messy refill system. Snap in, go. Simple. The dual paper trays are great too. I keep standard paper in one and heavier stock in the other so I’m not swapping paper every time I change projects. And the 11x17 capability? That alone makes it worth it if you do layouts, posters, or larger designs. Overall, this printer feels built for someone who actually prints — not just the occasional return label. Strong color performance, clean output, and ink that doesn’t disappear overnight. If you print a lot of color and want something reliable without jumping into commercial-level pricing, this thing delivers.

Speedy printer with great paper handling

Unpacking... The printer is packed well with a nice handle built into the plastic bag the machine is packed in. All of the essentials are there and the machine comes with full XL cartridges instead of "starter" ones. Setup... Setup was pretty straightforward at first, but I quickly ran into problems. There is a QR code on the machine to install with a smartphone, but the link says there is no model like this available. Maybe it was just too soon after release and the Brother website didn't have a driver. I even went to the Brother support website myself and searched for drivers with no search results available. I did a manual connection to my network and it connected very easy, aided by the touchscreen and decent size onscreen buttons. Once it was available on my network, my smartphone could print fine. Once I fired up my laptop, Windows installed a driver for it but then said an app was available. That took me to a generic Brother website that stated that a driver should be installed to get full capability from the printer but didn't have any links to a driver. I have dealt with many printers over the years and was not surprised by the whole situation. Even with just the Windows driver, things printed fine and I was able to use all of the trays. I have the full Brother driver set for a laser installed on my laptop, so I opened the Brother Utilities application and it indicated that I could install a driver from there. When I clicked on that, it brought me right to a regular Brother webpage that had Windows 11 drivers for this exact model. Once they were installed, everything looked great and runs just fine. Paper handling... This machine has two regular paper trays that can extend out to take ledger size paper and a rear top multipurpose slot that handles that size as well. This MP slot is the reason for my interest in this printer, as I use some thicker paper that does not feed well from regular trays. I ran some very thick photo paper and it pulled it very well and printed some nice photos that dried as soon as they came out. I had a very old Brother large format printer and this one reminded me of how fast the prints come out with landscape printing. It is advertised at 31 ppm and I would imagine it is every bit that fast! Ink usage... I should have looked a bit closer, I had been researching several Brother printers and didn't remember that this one takes old-style cartridges instead of ink tanks as most of the ones I had looked at. I'm not even sure why companies sell these style any longer as the tanks make it much better for customers as well as being much better for recycling. While these cartridges are very large, they are rated for about 700 pages per color and about 1000 for the black. Because of the high cost of replacement, this will definitely cut into what I print with this machine. I took one star off for the driver challenges, which might be a bigger problem for someone not accustomed to the trials of printer installation and wrangling drivers. Overall, the printer is impressive with its paper handling and speed. For a small office or home business that needs large format prints, this will probably be cheaper than outsourcing over time. For me (a teacher) I will be using my Epson Eco-tank printer (that has been faithful for several years now) for most color prints and save the Brother for large format posters and other projects that need it.

When it comes to printers, I prioritize features like duplex printing, copy, and scanning, which this printer can handle in a single pass. This printer has dual paper trays, good for 500 sheets, and it has a 100-sheet multipurpose tray in the back of the printer. This is a huge printer, but understandable because it can print on 11x17 paper. Despite its large size, it’s understandable because it can print on 11x17 paper. The automatic document feeder can accommodate up to 50 pages. USB/Ethernet connections are not located on the back of the printer. Instead, ports are located under the scanner bed, and the wires feed out towards the back of the printer and drape down on the right rear corner of the printer. This is a pretty unique way, but I’m not a fan of it because the wires are visible from the side. Go wireless or wired. It has an Ethernet port and USB for wired connection. It also supports dual-band (2.4 and 5) Wi-Fi connections. Not sure which Wi-Fi protocols it supports. Acquires Wi-Fi signal and is ready to print in less than 22 seconds. That’s a big difference compared to my last printer that shared similar specs, which took nearly a minute to be ready to print. It shuts down in less than 14 seconds. Printed a 3/4-page colored document with text, QR code, and graphics in about 38 seconds. The document came out clean, with no smears. The text and QR code were crisp and clear, and the background colored graphic did not bleed into the white text in the foreground. Printed an envelope without wrinkling it. Scanned a 5-page mixed B/W and colored document, and it took quite a bit of time, about 45 seconds. It’s not the quietest printer I’ve had, but it’s not loud and annoying. It uses 4 inks, and it comes with a starter black ink cartridge (1,800 pages), starter cyan, magenta, and yellow ink cartridges (750 pages). The inks are inserted on the front of the printer, not like most older printers where you have to lift the top half of the printer. I think it’s more convenient this way. Overall, I am happy with this printer. I hate to say it, but it lets me do all of my work tasks easily from home.
