Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the crisp, high-resolution print quality of the INKvestment Tank MFC-J6545DW Wireless Color All-In-One Inkjet Printer. Many appreciate the good color and print quality, even on standard settings. However, some find the printer's size to be quite large and potentially inconvenient for home use due to its bulk. The substantial size may require ample space and accessibility around the printer.

I have a larger Brother printer for my home buisness but I needed a smaller, but robust printer for our second home. I made the switch to Brother printers when I had ongoing problems with the leading brand of printers. They didn't last and were very slow. This brother printer is a quality device. I love that the ink is all in one cartridge now and with normal use, the cartridge should last for one year. There is also a gauge that estimates the number of pages that can still be printed with the cartridge (great!!). This printer handles several different sizes of paper and the printing speed is super-fast. I was able to connect the printer to my WiFi network in 30 seconds so I was up and running with printing capability for my laptop, iPad and iPhone as well. This printer is larger than some of the low-end models but the capabilities far-exceed those. This printer rivals much more expensive and larger printers. I was surprised to see that Brother has a two-year warranty on the printer. You don't often see that but my other Brother printer hasn't missed a beat in four years so I expect to be using this for a long time to come.

This thing is not small! It feels like it belongs in an office. It also prints double sided! This is a feature I didn’t know I needed in a printer I can have at home! The 4 included ink tanks are easy to install and come pre-filled with full ink. The two trays for paper make it feel like it never runs out of paper, or load two different sizes. This is a full size printer and for good reason. It just feels built for a busy office, with a huge scanner bed and feeder, the printing is fast and with no smearing! It took every document and made multiple copies in just a few minutes. I used it at the office for a week, and I can tell you it doesn’t look like it’s running out of ink yet. The two sides printing made it easy to print out a marketing guide, in full color! The fax works as expected, and connecting to WiFi was easy. AirPrint is quick, and didn’t suffer from any sizing issues. Overall, I’m really impressed with this workhorse! It’s a great printer, and it will do the print/fax and scan work you need and not skip a beat. I can’t even recall a single page jam in 120 pages of printing.

This thing is HUGE- but it is worth every inch of space it takes up. It was surprisingly easy to set up. With all the extra features, I was expecting it to be difficult, but I had it connected and running in less than 10 minutes. The two best features are the large format scanning and faxing -up to 11x17, and the LARGE ink capacity. You can say goodbye to running out of ink right when you need to print.(After the stores have closed!) The ink cartridge holds enough for a year! And it also has an intuitive interface to tell you exactly how much ink you have left, so you won't be left in the lurch. This isn't a casual home printer, so if you don't print much, it may be over kill. This is great for small businesses.

This is a very nice printer/scanner/copier/fax. Setup was simple. The printer is heavy and large, and the image on the packaging suggests that two people lift it out of the box. I agree with that advice. Once set in place, access to the paper bins and ink cartridge location is convenient, and loading the included ink cartridges is simple. Actually, one of the first things the setup guide suggests you do is plug in the printer. Instructions on the touch screen guide you through the cartridge installation process. Before connecting the printer to a computer, however, like many devices like this, you are told to install the software first and then connect the printer when instructed to do so. Connection may be made by direct USB to a local computer, ethernet, or wirelessly. Because of the way we’re using this printer, primarily as a scanner, USB connection was best. When it came time to connect the USB cable, I couldn’t find the USB port on the printer, and no instruction shows where it is. It was after I remembered that this is a Brother printer that I remembered where the port is. For some reason, Brother puts the port inside the device. In this case, you have to lift the scanner head, and the connection is about in the center of the exposed space. Then you run the USB cable through a channel and out the back, so you’ll need a USB cable (none is included) long enough to both extend the two feet or so inside the printer plus run from the printer to the computer. The fax line and ethernet ports are also located inside the printer. After installation of the cartridges, the printer automatically loads the ink tanks from the cartridges and then prints a test page with instructions on what to do if the test page shows any problems. Mine did have some alignment problems with two of the color cartridges, so I had the printer do an alignment, and that fixed the problem. Software installation can be made from either the included CD or by downloading from the Brother website. After installation concluded, the printer was available for any use, and I tested the print, scan, and copy functions. (I could not test the fax function as we do not have landline telephone service.) All worked great, and I am especially pleased with how quickly this printer does everything (prints a page, scans or copies a document). Scanning is fast and easy, and that is very important for us because, as I noted earlier, scanning will be one of the primary uses of this printer in our office. Among its many attractive assets, we are most pleased with large-size scanner platen. It’s 11 x 17 inches, which is so much more convenient and versatile than the letter-sized 8.5 x 11 on the typical all-in-one. With this size platen, for example, we can scan facing pages from a booklet or magazine right across the fold. The box claims that the ink cartridges will last for one year. I have no way to test this claim until a year has passed. I checked online, and a Brother four-color cartridge set for this printer sells for around $100. That’s $25 per cartridge, which isn’t bad. Overall, in the few days we’ve been using this printer, we’ve not run into any problems or issues, and we’re very pleased. Highly recommended.

This printer is rather large compared to your standard printer, but it is designed for heavy commercial use. Initial setup, network connection and ink install is super easy. It prints the fastest of any printer I've used. It not only uses standard size paper, but allows you to print to much larger page sizes. The white / gray color looks good any room of your business or house. Ink looks like it will last for a long time. If you plan to print a large volume this printer will meet your needs very well.

The Brother MFC-J6545DW printer is great for my home office. It scans beautifully, prints well and while I haven't used it, I'm sure the fax would work well (I've never had a Brother Multifunction fax not work well in the past). The scanner works very smoothly. The software provided is easy to use and gives a good amount of control over settings. The ADF is nice and can scan up to 11" wide which is very convenient. The printer is nice and clear. It is about the average sound level compared to other MFC devices I've had. It prints Letter size documents very quickly as it can print them in landscape orientation since it is large format. The pictures I've printed have all turned out great. It handled large print files smoothly, just took a couple minutes to transmit over WiFi. This printer has a lower paper tray and also a vertical paper feed in the back. You can program each to a paper size so you don't need to swap paper sizes if you only use 2, and the printer will automatically select the correct tray. The WiFi setup was smooth as could be and connected in less than a minute. The printer updated firmware easily once online. The controls on the printer are nicely laid out. The screen is bright and the whole control panel swivels up and down to adjust for the height you have the printer setting at. The ink is easy to install and access on the front right of the printer. I haven't had a paper jam yet in either the printer or scanner but the access panels are easy to open and seem nicely positioned to quickly and completely clear paper if it were to jam. The only thing to keep in mind is this is a Ledger size printer. I have it sitting next to an HP4000TN laserjet duplex printer and this is the same depth and 8 inches wider. Fully opened up this printer takes up about a 24" x 24" footprint. I would definitely recommend this printer.

Very impressive all in one printer. Setup was extremely easy from unboxing thru to the first print job sent through. This printer is heavy duty and it’s size and weight is reflective of what it is built to handle. The unboxing was easy with the heavy duty plastic equipped with handles that allow for one person removal from the container. Once plugged in, it starts to get itself setup and you can hear it all working. I put in the ink into the four separate slots and it took about 6 minutes to say it was ready to print. While waiting for the ink to get set, I was able to finish some basic setup steps like setting the date, time and defaults paper size, etc. Once ink was ready, it printed a quick job to check the line up which came back just fine. From there, it was ready to go. I did a quick setup of the wireless network which was extremely simple and worked without issue. Lastly, I ran a check from the setup menu to download the latest (version D) BIOS. All in all, setup took no more than 20 minutes. The printer is probably overkill for the average household but with kids in school and an adult that does some at home work, this works out perfectly. You can print, copy, scan and fax like all of the other all-in-one printers but I think this one is built with small businesses in mind along with busy households. The difference is that the ink reservoirs will give adequate range for roughly 2500 / 3000 pages. This is a good quantity for this type of printer and that range is typically what you would see from a laser jet or larger device. I am very happy with the print quality and speed at which the pages come out. Looks great for reports, homework, resumes, etc.

The Brother - INKvestment Tank MFC-J6545DW Wireless Color All-In-One Printer - White/Gray is a great all purpose printer for home or business. Once turned on, I was instructed by the on screen instructions how to setup the printer for initial use. The next step was connecting my desktop computer by inserting the included CD software into my CD-Rom to install the full driver and software package. After installation, I was able to print from my computer, scan, and copy documents. The Brother - INKvestment Tank MFC-J6545DW Wireless Color All-In-One Printer - White/Gray can also print from my mobile device. I installed the Brother iPrint & Scan app from the Google Play Store. After initiating a search for my device, my phone connected with the printer and allowed my phone the ability to process some printing functions. The following functions became available once connected: print, scan, copy preview, fax send, fax preview, and machine settings. I was able to print documents, WebPages and photos with my Brother - INKvestment Tank MFC-J6545DW Wireless Color All-In-One Printer - White/Gray using both my desktop computer and my mobile phone.

Great AIO Printer, with Room for Improvement

First, and foremost, even though Brother calls this an “INKvestment Tank” printer, do NOT confuse it with an actual ink-tank printer…it is NOT. It uses ink cartridges, just like all other traditional inkjet printers. Also, while they claim “one year of ink”, I haven’t had it long enough to prove/disprove this. That being said, I’ve never come across an ink cartridge-based printer that held up to its claimed length-of-use on the cartridges. So, let’s dig in………. UNBOXING & INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: To say the box is large is an understatement…at almost 3ft long, 2ft wide, and 1.5ft tall, it’s huge. If buying this printer, make sure you have an empty trunk, or an available seat (or the entire backseat), as you’ll need it. It’s also heavy, exceeding 44lbs, so make sure that, wherever you plan on placing the printer, it can support the weight. The printer, itself, is well-packed, but I suggest having someone assist in unpacking it, especially considering the (approx) 23”x19”x12” size of the printer. Btw, the huge size is due to it being able to scan/copy/print as large as 11x17”. The button layout is nice, plus it has a cool touch-screen (something my previous Epson ink-tank printer didn’t have). SETUP: Setup, as with most printers these days, is as smooth & simple as it gets. I remember when Brother printers could be a PitA when attempting to set up the printer on a network (wired, or wireless)…no more. To keep things simple, it’s almost a “plug & play” situation, as the included instructions, and the installation software, walks you through every step of the way…so much so that it’s almost impossible to mess things up. Additionally, you can set the printer up for remote printing. It doesn’t matter whether you use Dropbox, MS OneDrive, Google Drive, or Brother’s own mobile apps…you will be able to print from wherever you are. PRINT QUALITY: Let’s start with the “bad” news…while a reasonably-fast printer, it won’t keep up withy your laser printer. Brother claims (and, by my testing, it is only slightly slower than their “claimed” speed) 22ppm b&w, and 20ppm color. Realistically, expect a speed approx 10% less than the claims speeds. Additionally, I wouldn’t suggest using this to print photos. It does a fairly good job at printing photos within a document, but as a “photo printer”, I would barely call it “acceptable”. Ok…enough of the “bad”…how about some “good”? If you’re printing text-only documents, the 4800x1200dpi will leave you hard-pressed to tell the difference between prints done on this Brother, and prints done on a laser printer. Comparing a single-page document done on the Brother against the same page printed on my HP LaserJet Pro, the differences could only be seen when using a magnifying glass (yes, I did actually do this) – the Brother is just that good. Color me impressed. ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS: Unfortunately, there is another piece of “bad” news…NO duplex scanning. If you have 2-sided pages needing to be scanned/copied, you’ll need to do it the old-fashions way, one-side-at-a-time. Additionally, while the flatbed scanner scans at a fantastic 1200x1200dpi, the document feeder only scans at 600x600dpi. On the plus side, the document feeder can hold up to 50 pages. The primary tray holds 250 sheets, but there is a (so-called) second tray, located from the back-side of the printer (you have to pull the plastic “tray” piece up) that holds an additional 100 sheets. THE GOOD: • Easy to setup & configure • Print quality is almost equal to a laser printer • Ability to print huge 11”x17” THE BAD: • No duplex scanning • 600x600dpi ADF scanning • Photo print quality barely “acceptable” THE UGLY: • Nothing I can think of (at least right now) FINAL VERDICT: My biggest “complaint” is that it’s cartridge-based. While all the other printer manufacturers have been releasing ink-tank AIO printers for at least a few years, Brother seems to be holding back. Also, while not a “deal-breaker”, the lack of duplex scanning is a ‘problem’. AIO printers…especially printers of this side…should include duplex scanning. That having been said, if you need a printer primarily for printing photos, this is not the printer you want. Instead, allow me to suggest something made by Canon or Epson, as they both manufacture excellent printers for printing photos. On the other hand, if you need an inkjet printer for documents, the Brother MFC-J6545DW is a very good choice. If you need a reasonably-priced printer capable of printing 11”x17” and/or want an inkjet capable of producing laser printer-like text quality, then this printer should be on your “very, very short list”. Text print quality is like none I have seen before from an inkjet printer. Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

Brother All-In-One Printers just keep impressing me and have become almost effortless to set up. With the new line of Brother INKvestment Tank color printers, my constant battle with not enough of a cartridge color of ink might be over. This printer uses ink cartridges and ink tank technology that can last up to a year. To remove any guessing as to when ink colors might run out, there is a Page Gauge that records the amount of ink remaining in the tank and gives an estimated number of pages that the ink supply will print in each color, and in black. The MFC-J6545DW Wireless Color All-In-One Printer can not only print on letter and legal-size paper, but it can produce ledger size documents of up to 11”x17”. This is a great size for charts and prints. But for me, it perfect for small architectural residential or office layout documents. The printer can print single or double sided and has a document feeder that will hold up to 50 sheets of paper. Other features include the “easy scan” and “fax” functions that can be directed from the touchscreen on the face of the printer. Documents are clear and crisp and the colors vivid and bright. Brother’s INKvestment Tank technology has designed cartridges that are engineered to hold a surplus of ink. The cartridges are front loaded in a traditional sense, but there is also an internal ink storage tank that assist to deliver many more printed pages beyond what just the cartridge ink can provide. Cartridges are manufactured in both Super and Ultra High Yield capacities. The booklet states that the Ultra High yield replacement cartridges allow for printing cost at $0.01 in black and less than $0.05 in color per page. If this is true, I am in for a real treat on ink cartridge savings over my present “go-to” printer. The paper tray holds up to 250-sheets and is adjustable to fit the letter, legal or ledger-size papers. The printer is designed to only hold up to 100 sheets of envelops and card stock in the multipurpose tray. This is very adequate for my needs and it works very well. There are several ways to print and its most easily done with the Brother i-print and scan. Brother’s wireless cloud printing and scanning was also easy to set up and works great with my pc laptop, iPad and iPhone, but so does the Brother i-print and scan app. All features of the printer, scanner, fax, and copier set up without any complications, and I had the whole printer all-in-one ready to go and started using it in 15 minutes. The Brother - INKvestment Tank MFC-J6545DW Wireless Color All-In-One Printer is a great addition to my office and small business. It delivers professional looking documents and is priced at a good price. When I calculate the money that I will save per quarter by using the Tank printing over what I normally spend with an older but great model of a competitor’s product that this is replacing, I’m more than thrilled with the cost savings. I think this is a perfect buy. I highly recommend the Brother - INKvestment Tank MFC-J6545DW Wireless Color All-In-One Business Smart Pro-Series if you are in need of a new All-In-One and/or if you are tired of paying over $100 a pop, over and over throughout the year for ink cartridges and always finding your ink supply to be too many of one color and not enough of another.

SOHO all-in-one with tabloid paper size support

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Brother's MFC-J6545DW is squarely aimed at home- and small-office duty. It relies on a couple of key features to differentiate it from other inkjet all-in-ones - support for larger paper sizes (up to 11" x 17") and economical consumable costs. It handles typical office printing needs very satisfactorily, but also didn't quite live up to some of my expectations. (Full transparency: my unit was provided by Brother in exchange for an honest review.) There were a few things I really liked about this all-in-one. By far the most noticeable is the larger paper size support - this machine supports tabloid-size paper, and this means it is also a fairly large machine. It's definitely the largest inkjet all-in-one I've handled, and pretty hefty as well. Of course, this means it has some extra flexibility due to its significantly larger area. For instance, it can handle scanning side-by-side pages from a bound document (like a magazine or book). I liked this feature, but would advise anyone who has limited space to consider its dimensions carefully. The INKvestment system is also appealing to me. Brother's projected costs per page are very low, and standard capacity cartridges are included in the box (no starter cartridges here). The cartridges clearly show how much liquid ink is inside. The actual consumable ink cartridges are independent of the actual print head and nozzles. While Brother isn't the only company to be trying to make ink costs more economical, they seem to have a pretty good implementation. Time will tell how accurate the usage estimates are, and how reliable the components are, but for now I am pretty pleased with Brother's goal here. I was very pleased with the speed and quality for text and simple graphics (standard office documents). Some photos on "best" mode with glossy paper, on the other hand, did take significantly longer to print. Of course, that speed/quality trade-off is understandable. I was able to get printing to the MFC-J6545DW right away from multiple computers and mobile devices via my Wi-Fi network - no drivers were strictly necessary. (I did, however, eventually install the latest drivers from Brother on both a Windows and Mac computer.) I was satisfied with the quality of scans from this machine, and it was reasonably easy to work with the scanner (on par with other networkable all-in-ones I've used). Overall, pretty decent for day-to-day office-type needs. Unfortunately, I did also run into some issues. None of them turned out to be deal-breakers, but they do keep me from recommending this printer without reservation. I've purchases three Brother color laser printers in the past decade, and all have worked really well (and are still working - I've gifted some to family as I've upgraded). My experiences were so great that the problems I did run into with this model were surprising. Happily, however, the worst issue cleared up on its own and my other criticisms are relatively minor. First of all, during the initial set-up I ran into two problems. First, there was an unexpected amount of liquid ink that got into the paper path. Cartridge installation was so easy, and they clicked solidly into place - so I am skeptical that was the cause. I was able to blot up some of the ink that my test print pages were not picking up themselves, and the printer does not seem to be leaking any further ink, so I am not worried going forward. The second issue during set-up was a pretty big source of frustration, however - during the calibration process, the printer detected jammed paper numerous times and would not complete the calibration print. Each time, there appeared to be no real issue with the paper feed (like wrinkled or "caught" paper). I even went as far as requesting warranty service - and then suddenly, after about 24 hours, it began to work fine when I tried once more. Ever since, there have been no issues at all with jams. It seems very mysterious, but now that it's working I guess I can't complain too much. My final negative impression of this machine is that it does seem to press some fine lines into photo paper. While photos look pretty good, from certain angles the light catches on these lines and they are noticeable. I suspect this is a side effect of the paper feed mechanism, and I've been unable to find a way to improve the results. Photos aren't bad, but I guess for this reason alone I would not recommend the machine for anyone that wants to print lots of high-quality photos. On the bright side here, it can print full-bleed (edge-to-edge) letter-sized photos. So, there you have it - if you want a fast all-in-one that works smoothly with many devices on a home network, and primarily do text and light graphics printing, this machine is well worth a consideration. The INKvestment system should keep consumable costs very reasonable, compared to many cheaper inket printers that make up the profit by forcing you to buy expensive cartridges after the anemic starter cartridges run out. The large paper-size support may make it too cumbersome for some home users, but I personally found it to be a nice feature. I did encounter a few issues that I don't think are endemic to this model, but wanted to relate my experience fully. I would definitely recommend this all-in-one were it not for those issues; as it stands, I would give it a tentative recommendation for people that would like the larger paper support and economical ink replacements.

I received this product for free as part of a testing group. It is a very large machine and if you open the large feeder in the back it will take up more room. But I love the fact that it handles 11 x 17. You can copy, print and fax in that size. Awesome. Initial setup was more difficult than most multi-function machines that I have purchased. The easy part was unwrapping and removing the tape. Then add paper and insert the print cartridges. I even connected to the network from the printer on my first try. But the next step is to install the software on your computer and it wouldn’t install because it couldn’t find the printer in the network. I tried several times. Uninstalled and reinstalled. I was even inputting the IP address of the machine. Finally, it connected. The printer arrived in Demo mode and it says that after you print it will automatically exit Demo mode. That didn’t happen, so I had to manually take it out of Demo in Initial Setup / Misc. My first page had an error message saying that it couldn’t print – but it did print. After a few pages the error message went away. Then it was back and remains. It says something like “Error Message – cannot print Prepatory Job.” It prints fine so I have been ignoring the message. Print speed is great and the text is laser like quality. Color is more muted and duller. It probably is due to the ink saving feature because when I compare to my Canon printout, the Canon paper is more vibrant and ink saturated (see photo). This printer would be great for your average business printing. It is fast and uses less ink. But I wouldn’t recommend for photos or colored presentation materials. The document feeder worked well to copy and holds 50 pages. But it doesn’t duplex copy. It will duplex print but not copy from the feeder. That is a much-needed feature. This printer is nice and has some great features, especially 11 x 17 capability. You will just have to evaluate if it meets your needs.

I picked up this Brother printer to replace a more traditional HP "home office" printer that seemed to run out of ink every 30 pages. Let me start by saying this thing is MUCH larger than your traditional "home" printer from Canon or HP, check the dimensions and make sure you have a spot for it. It has a bigger footprint for a few reasons, it accommodates a wide range of paper sizes for both printing and scanning. Printing is very fast for both color and traditional black only printing. Color quality is good and the "INKvestment" cartridges seem very reasonably priced if they actually produce 1500 pages each (I cannot comment on that yet as I have not printed that much volume at the time of writing this, I am only about ~100 pages in with cartridges showing full). It has a 50-page automatic document feeder which is nice, and it has a extra slot on the back of the printer that allows you to print on envelopes and other media. Another complaint I had with my HP was the connectivity, it only had Wifi. Wifi is probably fine for most, but I got tired of the reliability issues. This unit has a ethernet port located under the scan bed as well as a traditional RJ11 jack for FAX use. Since setting up the printer using the ethernet connection I have never had an instance that the printer didn't appear online. This is a major upgrade for those that do moderate to high amounts of printing or copying over your standard printers. If you are looking for something nice for your small office/home office but don't want to plunge into a laser printer I would have no issues recommending this.

So far, this is the best inkjet printer I have ever used! Both black and white and color pages are done printing before my other printer from the competition is finished doing its "warm-up" process. This thing handles double-sided documents with ease, prints great on photo paper, has rich colors and crisp text, and seems to be quiet. Setup was a breeze. No computer is needed to do so. The ink installs with no major tricks. Just open the door and insert the cartridges. It takes a few minutes for the printer to prime the ink tanks. Then the wireless setup is simple. Either enter the network information or use WPS. I can scan to / print from my phone, computer, or a USB drive. All three options work without any hiccups. The normal paper is stored in the usual, front tray location which keeps the paper protected from dust and maintains a clean look. However, I really, really like the location of the manual paper feed. It is in the upper back which means that thicker paper and envelopes do not become warped/contorted because they pass through at a much smaller angle instead of having to do the usual 180-degree flip. I would not want this location for normal paper but it is great for the manual feed tray. At this point, I only have one complaint. This printer is huge! Its footprint is massive and it will not fit in tight spaces. Take some measurements before you buy. But as long as you have the space, you should be really happy with this inkjet.

Easy setup for my phone and computer but it took some time and I had to resort to the instructions manual to figure out how to scan large documents and use the duplex feature. It was not that difficult but I am not the type of guy who reads manuals until I have to. Brother promises that the MF-J6545DW ink will last up to a year, so I am also assuming that after a year, the ink will go bad or something; otherwise, it could last longer than that depending on the print volume. Print quality to me is always crucial. On that front, this Brother MF-J6545DW delivers well as long you remember to run the alignment setup first as you should with any printer and a new cartridge. I never expect fast photo printing from this type of printer but I do for document printing and I found it to be a bit slow. Still, not bad and the fact that it can print up to 11” x 17” more than makes up for the slower printing. As for photos, it is just good for brochures but this is a business printer and photo is not its specialty. Scanning was easy, with very good resolution, and relatively fast for this type of multi-function printer. I really like that you can scan tens of pages at once, which is something I need to do in a regular basis. Faxing also worked flawlessly although I rarely fax anymore. Printing from my iPhone and iPad was easier than I expected. It looks professional. Its built-in auto ordering of ink is useful but you will be ordering only Brother Ink, instead of the compatible cheaper options out there. It is optional, however, and considering it can print thousands of pages with one a set of cartridges, you might not be concerned about cheaper ink and just go with the feature. Although I do not like all the extra control software, my recommendation is to install it for Windows 7. That will prevent some issues that I encountered with duplex printing with that Windows version. Windows 10 worked fine without the software that comes with the printer but you may prefer to install it anyway since it makes some tasks a bit easier.

The main point of this printer is its ability to print and scan 11" x 17" pages. And it does that excellently. It's also able to automatically print on both sides of a page, I like that because I print a lot of meeting handouts and that will cut the amount of paper I use in half. I have mine connected via Wi-Fi and setup was very simple. It also works via USB or Ethernet - bring your own cables for those. I can also print from my Android phone via Wi-Fi. This also does a decent job of printing color photos. Overall this is a great printer if you need to print ledger size (11x17) pages.
