Perfect Replacement for My Office Printer

I purchased this to replace our old office printer. The first toner included in box box is a standard yeild toner and runs out quick but prints much more when you replace with the high yeild toner. The automatic document feed works quickly without needing to supervise to make sure more than one page is pulled in at a time. The printer does take a second to spool a new print job but spits the pages out quickly after that. Certainly worth the lower price tag for a quality multi function printer.

The MFC-8950DW has heavy current draw when starting up so that it can start fast and have high throughput; a good electrical system (e.g., 25 amp circuit, UPS for computers on the same circuit) is needed. However, It really pumps the pages through when printing, and it scans and copies FAST! The speed is great enough that the manual warns that WiFi may be too slow (depending on your WiFi setup); I use wired ethernet to eliminate any problems in that area. I haven't used the fax capability yet, but it probably works as well as the other functions. Many advanced features are available, so I'm still reading the manuals to have everything work as I'd like. The device can scan both sides of an original in a single pass (for either just scanning or for copying), but it takes two passes to print both sides. It comes with a minimal version of Nuance PaperPort, but I decided to get the full versions of PaperPort and OnmiPage (for OCR capability). With those I can use this MFC for a wide variety of office purposes (but learning about all of them is a challenge). The color touch-sensitive screen is a joy to use, but (again) I've needed to read the manuals (which come in electronic form and can be printed rapidly on the MFC-8950DW) to get all the capability out of this device. I've used a variety of paper types, and have had no jams or maintenance problems in the month I've used the machine. I always worry about how any mechanical device will hold up, but there are no signs of future problems right now. I replaced a high-speed (for its time) light-lens copier, a scanner, and a printer with this one device for my home office. I wish it had been available 10 or 15 years ago; my life would much easier and less expensive.

Awesome tool for me as I scan documents for electronic storage straight to a PDF format and then shred the paper. Duplex scanner (rather than feeding paper through again and again) works great. No jams when multiple duplex pages are involved either. Scanning via email or straight to PC is excellent. Saves me time. Connected to Wifi with no trouble so there is no cable required to router or PC. Good solid printing capability too with speed. I don't print photos etc so black and white is fine. Haven't tried the Cloud printing and other functions yet.

I like all of the functions (the ones I have figured out). I print out large amounts of legal documents (minimum 100) at a time. It is fast and easy for me to use in my home office. I would like to be able to adjust the ink. Sometimes the print loses clarity (to light) which is an issue. I would suggest a video on how to use all of the functions that are available with this machine. This machine is well priced and works very well. I am a high consumption user.

I was looking for a second scanner and printer to keep at my second office. It's important for my workflow that I be able to enter the file name for the scanned file before scanning it, rather than let the machine assign a generic name and make me locate the file and change the name on my computer. Few scanners have this feature, but this is one of the ones that does. The scanner was not particularly easy to set up with a Macintosh laptop, but my IT guy got it working. I don't know yet if it is a toner hog.
