This is my second L prime from Canon. Truly, a great lens. This focusing distance is very versatile, I use it for street photography, portraits and landscape. In all of those situations exceeds without much problem. Highly recommended, even more now that the price has come down since the insertion of the mark II.

I decided to upgrade my lens and am glad I did, the pictures are very clear and the difference is very noticeable. It is really pricey but if you got the money I would recommend to buy this.

I love this lens! For those reading my review I am an amatuer photographer with little lens knowledge. I bought this lens for my portrait and family photography work. This is my first lens purchase. Many people have said I should have got a 55mm for what I do but I find that the 35 is great for me and I personally love the results I'm getting. The bokeh is creamy, the images are sharp, and the color is nice as well. Obviously there is no zoom so you do have to move around a lot to get what you want at times. There is a tad of vignetting at times but I don't mind it. My main reason for purchasing this lens was for the quality and the aperture. Hope this review is helpful!

lens is good but for a little more money you can buy the 24-70mm 2.8 and you will get a lot more versatility with it

When I bought my very first dSLR (Canon XTi), I wanted this lens, but it was out of my initial budget range. The 35mm on a crop sensor is very close to the 50mm effective focal length on a full frame sensor, which is considered normal human eye perspective. I originally bought the Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM and used it as my walkaround, normal perspective lens. A couple years later, I saved up the money and eventually bought the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM. This lens is tack sharp. It is a Canon L-series lens so it has very high quality optical elements. The lens is also very fast focusing (I currently use it on a Canon 7D and 40D). The f/1.4 maximum aperture is great when trying to get a very thin depth of field for creative shots. While I have yet to shoot full frame dSLR, the 35L is also very popular with Canon full frame users for full body portraits, group portraits, and semi-wide angle shots. This lens is definitely worth the price.

This is my first Canon L series lens and WOW! It is definitely worth the price! The image quality and build quality is superb! Canon has definitely built this lens with quality in mind. The craftsmanship shows. I'm an indie filmmaker so this is awesome for those wide shots.

This lens' photo quality is amazing! Fast auto-focus, very sharp and nice bokeh. This is my first prime lens. At first I was hesitant to buy it because it's pricey but I think it's worth it. It has an excellent review from many photographers too.
