I got my 7D to shoot movies and videos. But I found out it wonderful for pictures. All you need to do is purchase a Mac computer for Best Buy to complete the deal. After that you are in business.

    Very good color accuracy

The good: *Most ergonomic canon SLR I have used *Best color accuracy of any canon SLR I have used *1080p video is excellent, dare I say better than many pro camcorders The bad: *This camera is quite expensive. *1.6 crop factor CMOS (this could be in the good category, except I prefer wide angle shots and this crop factor hampers this a bit) *25MB raw files. I have started to shoot in mRAW (10mp raw files) since the full size raw files are HUGE All together I would say this is the best camera I have used for under 2k. Its low light performance is rather better than my old 30d and its autofocus is lighting fast. I just wish they had a full frame version of this camera to allow me to use the full potential of my wide angle lenses.

So Good I sold my 40D and 5D!

I LOVE this camera. I initially bought it as a replacement for my 40D which my wife was shooting with. I was primarily shooting with a 5D. After using this camera two things happened (1) we both wanted to use this one instead of our other cameras and (2) we sold the 40D and 5D on eBay. We are primarily wildlife / nature photographers so capturing birds in flight is something we like to shoot. Having 8 FPS really helps for this and some sports photography we do. In fact one or our recent sports photos is going to be run as the photo of the day on a local news web site. Image quality is very good. Not as good as the 5D in very low light situations but the digital noise can easily be taken care of in post processing. Overall I'm extremely pleased with the 7D. It rocks!

I have only had a little time to play around with the camera but it is a huge improvement over my 10D which isn't surprising. Features and functionality are easy to use along with far more programming options than I am used to from my older camera. The color just pops off the screen in the pictures I have taken so far. The camera is about as heavy as my old one was so it can be a lot to lug around. Picture quality is excellent with the 18 megapixel processor. If you are looking for a DSLR that is designed for more than just the "point and shoot" person then this is a good value. An added plus is even in full auto mode you still have the ability to capture RAW format images so if you do decide to let the camera do all the work you have some extra editing options.

    Upgrade to 7D

I purchased this body as an upgrade to my xsi. I primarily use it to shoot my 10 year old sports (baseball, basketball, soccer games) and indoors for family gatherings. The 8 fps is a gigantic upgrade from the xsi 3.9 fps. Having the video is a bonus as I take short clips of games and kids b-days. The new AF system is fantastic. I get more images in focus than in the past. Additionally the AI Servo shooting mode allows you to shoot the subject starting at any focal point as opposed to starting at the center while using the xsi. Overall functions and menus are similar to the sxi. One last major upgrade for my use is the ability to shoot in lower light conditions. The 7D produces sharper images at higher ISO.

Superb. Amazing pictures when paired with L series lenses. Incredibly fast frame rate and easy to use menus. The quick menu is a great feature to access the most common functions. Chose this camera over a T2i based on speed, build quality, lcd, and functions. Far more advanced than anything Nikon has to offer. 1080p video is a must have. Get the body on-line and get a lense worthy of this camera, a 24-105 F4L or 24-70 F2.8L and an L series telephoto. Great results with the 1.4x extender. The obvious choice for a crop sensor camera.

I am a Canon fan and was looking for a backup body for wedding season. It was between another 5D II or the 7D. Being a little cost conscious I went with the 7D. The first thing that I will say is though the menu and keys on the 7D are not exactly the same as the 5D II they are pretty close. My first camera was a Rebel and people looking to upgrade from the pro-sumer line will fine the menu system easy to use. IQ: The image quality is very good, I can't say I've really noticed any difference from my 5D Mark II, but I haven't done any hard and fast testing where it would really show one way or another. Handling: The camera has a nice feel to it, my hands are very wide but not overly long and the camera feels very good in my hands. I would however HIGHLY recommend the battery grip if you do a lot of vertical shooting. Options: The amount of options can be a little over whelming but nothing you can't learn if you're trying. The electronic level is really nice for landscapes on a tripod, I wish the 5D had it. The video function is easy to use. The ability to remotely trigger speed lights and set ratios is wonderful though may not have a long range outdoors. Auto Focus: This is where I was expecting a little more from the camera. I really expected the camera to lock on like a great white in low light conditions. It does a decent job here with its 19 AF points but I was a little disappointed. I guess they need to leave something for the 1D. I will say however that I really liked the box spread of the AF points when compared to the 5D II. The oval shape of the 5D II is horrible for composing a shot, where as the 7D's 19 point AF points seem to be more in line with where you would want to AF on a face in the frame. Over all a great buy if you are looking for a professional camera.

    A worthy upgrade

I have owned numerous Canon models and this is by far the best update yet. I have gone from the 20D, 40D, 50D and the I D mark III. I use the I D as my primary and have used my 50D in low light situations but the 7D is easily going to replace my 50D due to some the upgrades. HD Video although not the reason I purchased the camera can come in handy and the video is awesome. I like the speed of the 7D, 8fps compared to 6.3 fps of the 50D, which may not sound like a huge difference but it is when you shoot sporting events. Canon has also increased the weather sealing on the 7D and really notice it when you put your lens on and open up the CF card and battery compartments. If you are upgrading from 40D, 30D, or 20D you will notice significant improvements in the 7D over these models especially for low light photography, the ISO range is incredible and makes shooting at night with f2.8 or faster possible. Also if you have an older model than the 50D you will notice a huge difference in the 7D's LCD screen, which on the 40D and older is horrible including my 1D mark III.

A powerful workhorse bringing function and control to your fingertips. The Canon 7D was designed to offer the professional shooters a wide range of shooting options in one complete package. Utilizing Canon's 1.6 APS-C sensor the 7D stands well above Canon's X0D series cameras. Offering photographers wireless flash control, video, incredible burst frame rates, numerous auto focus points, and custom settings it makes adapting quickly to changing shooting conditions a breeze. The Canon 7D brought the introduction of Canon Speedlite control to the back of the camera. While the ability existed to use Canon Speedlites with earlier models their use was somewhat hampered by the need to set each group manually at the lights or to control them from a 580 EX series or other wireless control for Manuel and ETTL. With the 7D all of the Speedlite groups can be controlled directly from the camera body and fired with the built in flash in both manual and ETTL modes. The 7D also brought 1080p video to the DSLR market (it was also introduced to the Canon Rebel line at this time). This was a big 1st step in introducing video to professional DSLRs, but really it still suffers from two big drawbacks. The first is the loss of the auto focusing function while filming marketing tracking moving subjects somewhat challenging. The second is the FAT32 limitations restricting higher resolution video to 4 minute clips. The 7D is capable of 7-9 frames per second in burst mode and is able to sustain that rate of fire for 126 frames. I am not aware of any other camera firing as fast, giving the 7D and unrivaled ability to capture action in a way never experienced before and allowing the creation of still-motion video by stitching the frames together in video editing software. The biggest draw back to this feature is the ability to effectively light the subject, these fast frame rates require near daylight conditions, limiting you to shooting outdoors or requiring bright continuous studio lighting such as that used for video. 19 auto focus points make it a breeze to get your focal plane spot on to your subject. This is a very helpful option to have when working with a very shallow depth of field. This feature is enhanced with focal point memory, that is the camera remembers the most recent focal point used for each orientation, landscape and portrait, of the camera body. Combine this with the quick selection hat switch and it makes this camera very quick to focus. The 7D also has a wide range of programmable modes. Custom shooting modes allow you to save your 3 most common shooting settings to the camera dial, the custom menu allows you to locate your most commonly used menu functions on one screen and if that is not enough the cameras external buttons can be programmed to preform different functions, allowing you to set the buttons to the layout you prefer. A couple of things I was not so fond of - the use of Compact Flash, it is not a bad format, but is much less convenient then SD. Color modes, not an adjustment to color temperature, but shooting modes that are black and white, sepia, black and white but with a green tint. These are the sorts of features that are added to point and shoot cameras to give beginners a wider set of options without the use of separate software on the computer. I have yet to run into someone who shoots with DSLRs and does not have at least moderately good post editing software, all of which gives much greater control over adjustments to black and white or sepia - or whatever other color scheme the photographer may wish for. All in all I find the 7D to be a very powerful camera offering a lot of flexibility at your fingertips. Despite a couple of minor inconveniences I find the 7D to be the most adaptable of my cameras and for this reason it is still my favorite camera body to shoot with. This is my 3rd Digital SLR camera and 2nd upgrade in less that 2 years. I just didn't realize how much better pictures you can take with advanced electronics and features. I was reluctant to pay 3x the amount for a body alone than the previous digital SLR's I owned, body and multiple lens. I have been absolutely satisfied with this camera. I do not suggest the 7D for a novice hobbyist but someone that has at least a moderate understanding of photography. I have purchased supplemental information (2 books and a DVD), to help me understand all of the features the 7D has and how to easily access them during picture taking and intentionally create the effects I want. Everything is easily assessable when you understand the controls and settings. The manual is great and easy to get information but doesn't show how to best access all of the 7D's features. I absolutely love this camera and recommend it highly. It also works better with Canon's high end L lens then does the lower level Canon digital cameras.

This is a wonderful camera, solid feel in the hand. Well built. Purchased this for world travel since it's dust and water resistant. The control placement doesn't vary that much from other high end Canon DSLR cameras, but I like the newer layout of the controls. Very pleased with this camera. Love the 5D Mark II but purchased this model because of the 8.0 frames per second which permits me to capture action wildlife photos. While I haven' tried the video features of this camera, I like the fact that it has it's own easy to operate button.

In the world of cameras you're not going to go wrong with this one. Stepping into my first DSLR has been great and it has been an excellent learning experience. Regular point and shoots can not come close. But of course - why not get a Rebel and save some money - well speed for one thing. If needed this camera can shoot up to 8 fps and in my experience has done fine to capture just the right moment for me. Also while I have not purchased speedlites yet - I will in a short while and the wireless control is built into this one which is awesome for Canon. One last note...some reviews may say 18 megapixels is too much but honestly the images I have downloaded off of this camera have been absolutely clear and noise free and additionally on that even when at 6400 ISO the noise is not bad at all. Recap 1. Fast camera 2. Wireless flash control for speedlites 3. An honestly great image [I use a 24-105 f/4L lens]

I am upgrading from a Canon Rebel XTi, and this camera is simply amazing! The focus is spot on (once you understand the settings, and are able to adjust), and the image quality is spectacular. Compared to the XTi, my keeper rate on action shots is much higher, and the higher burst rate is a blast! My reasoning for the 4 stars on value for the price - Great camera but $1k over the Ti2 to get the better focusing and faster shooting rate? Not a great value if you do not need them. Ease of use? The camera has many options and takes a while to learn. Once the menu's are understood they are fine, but there is a learning curve.

I replaced my rebel xti with the 7D. Lenses interchangeable and similar in many functions. However, picture quality on every level is far superior. I did not think that the average full light shot would show much difference from the xti (which took great pictures). It does. I was warned it would show all the imperfections in anything other than an "L" series lens. So far I have seen nothing in the midrange canon lenses I use. I have played with the video. As for what I am seeing on the camera screen at playback I'm very impressesed but I have yet to convert it to a viewable format for the flat screen. It is heavier. A little larger. Better formed to the hand. Fast. Very fast. I hesitated on buying for quite a while. Glad I gave in.

The Canon Eos 7D is a great camera. Some may be overwhelmed by the camera, but this is a good step up if you wanna go beyond the consumer DSLRs. The heft and construction of the camera is great, and the pictures are wonderful also. High ISOs mean you can make pictures even when it gets dark. The HD video capture is wonderful bonus and the full time manual exposure for video capture is great also.
