Easy set up. Printouts look great. Copies look great. It is quick. Everything is so much better than it was from our 10-12 year old inkjet printer. We're just using it for household stuff, nothing fancy. We were due for a new printer and we're glad we stepped up to a color laser, even with the higher initial cost.

Great Printer for the Price

This is a great printer for the price. It was easy to set up and has been working like a champ so far. We always had HP printers and decided to try Canon and we're very happy.
One thing to note - this thing is HEAVY! It's smaller than our old laser printer but this thing weighs a ton. But once it's in place you'll be very happy with it.

I like Canon printers because of their high print quality, ease of setup, and overall affordability. I owned an earlier model for many years, and when it came to finding a replacement, it wasn't a hard decision to get another imageCLASS by Canon. I had no issues setting it up, and I was able to print my first document within minutes. I love the double-sided print and scan feature, as well as the auto feeder tray for scanning. I would buy this printer again.

Was looking for a color laser that had duplex scanning and this one checked all the boxes. Prints great and scanning is great. First page out is a little slower than I'd hoped but that's not a deal breaker. It's also louder than previous printers But again it's worth it for the print quality and the auto duplex scanning. Set up was easy once the software was downloaded to each of the computers.

Great print quality, TERRIBLE user interface

If I were to ONLY rate this Canon printer on the printing quality, it would get 5 stars. BUT, it was not easy to setup this printer on our network and with Apple computers. I had to get Best Buy help to get everything connected. And, now that I've had the unit for a few weeks - it's "sleep" mode takes the printer off-line so strongly - it doesn't "wakeup" when I send a file through for printing. I have to manually wake up the printer at control panel to get a print completed. Again - I'm guessing it's Canon's seemingly opaque user-interface (their system probably makes sense to IT experts) - that has a "Setting" somewhere that is needing to be corrected to improve online performance.

Overall good printer. Great print quality, good speed, small footprint. A bit noisy when starting up. Will not print on glossy photo paper. Screen is very small so it's easy to select the wrong option. Onscreen paper tray size setup is a bit confusing, and the "online manual" is no help. For the sale price this was a steel.

First time owning a color laser printer and wow! quality so much better than inkjets. Since the advent of digital reports, we dont use printers often..but every now and then we still need to
print some documents. Inkjets dries out, lasers dont. Toner price is 3x more than ink cartridges and generic toners will not work. But you get thousand of pages before you need to replace the toners.. This printer is also huge ( has 4 toners) so make sure you have enough space. Also- it prints so loud! if you can ignore the sound, it is fast and airprint ability made our lives so much easier!

Reviewed numerous Color Laser and inkjet printers before settling on this Canon MF656Cdw. It had the best reviews of any color laser printer. I purchased through Best Buy and had it delivered. It arrived very quickly and in perfect condition. The setup was very easy for an older boomer and it functions and prints extremely well. I would recommend this printer for anyone looking for a color laser printer.

I bought and returned 3 HP’s after a spending hours on customer support I decided to try this cannon and I haven’t looked back. Such a smooth setup, no driver issues. Highly recommend.
Print quality is great and speed is not bad either. Haven’t dealt with changing a cartridge yet so hope they last awhile.

Great Replacement for ImageClass mf743cdw

I purchased this printer to replace a high level imageclass mf743cdw (also purchased from Best Buy), as the document feeder no longer worked. I like the smaller footprint of this printer and the feeder works great. My only gripe, would be that it louder than anticipated

My HP all-in-one printer gave up the ghost after over a decade. I don't print as much as I used to and I also wanted to find an all-in-one with cheaper replacement toner cartridges. The cost of HP replacement toner cartridges is outrageous.
I found this Canon ImageCLASS MF565Cdw on sale and it has everything I was looking for. All-in-one, cheaper toner cartridges, good print quality and ease of set up from the reviews I read. Well don't believe everything you read.
Unfortunately I didn't open and try to use this before the Best Buy return window closed. I have an Apple MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.6.1 and trying to connect this machine was an extremely frustrating experience. I still am not able to recognize the scanner or fax after so many attempts I just want to destroy this machine. There isn't an app or at least not one I have found and I'm not sure a third party app would work. I miss the HP app.
I had to buy a usb memory stick to scan because I can not get the machine to connect to my MacBook Pro and I tried wireless and hardwired with zero success. So I scan to the USB stick then move to another peripheral to be able to get the documents loaded on my MacBook Pro. The document feeder worked once correctly before it started to jam and crumple the right side of each document. I ended up having to scan each page individually on the bed.
The touch pad is a pain when entering information because the letters are small and anyone who has bigger hands will experience continual mishits. I ended up using a tablet stylus to enter information.
The only good thing is the printer quality is good.
A total waste of money and time. This machine is junk right out of the box. Definitely the worst experience I have ever had with a new all-in-one laser printer.
I will be purchasing a HP.

This is my second ImageClass printer. Had MF634 from 2018-2025. Worked great. Replaced with MF656 May 2025. Mostly used to scan documents to a network server with some color printing. The 656 like the 634 supports 2 sided scanning. Buy this model instead of the 654 if you need 2 sided scanning. Initial setup can be challenging. Cannon tech support helps a lot if you get stuck. 800-828-4040. Would buy another one if necessary.

Love the printer/copier/scanner. Very good quality of prints in clarity and color. The only downside - it was a bit difficult to setup with a VPN. Had to actually call customer support to help in completing the setup. When scanning from a desktop PC, I still need to disable the VPN. Originally had to disable the VPN to print, but was able to find a workaround from VPN provider to now print without disabling, have not found a workaround for the scanning piece yet. Other than than that - fantastic printer with all the extras that we wanted

This color printer was an upgrade from a Canon B&W laser printer that we owned for 9 years and was still going strong. Really great to have a color laser printer now, and as a plus, AirPrint works seamlessly whereas the old printer required restarts to print wirelessly. Very pleased with this purchase.
