Bought for a trip abroad and am delighted with the quality of pictures: clear, sharp. Easy to use. Close-ups are crystal clear.

Nice Little Camera

The camera takes very decent pictures and is easy to use overall. The electronic viewfinder is why I went with this camera over the G7X. The only flaw I see to this camera is that the Exposure control knob is bigger than and more lateral to the shutter/zoom button. It seems out of place and a poor design. Does not affect camera function, just a bit odd and uncomfortable.

I have a Canon SX60 which I love for outdoor shooting, but wanted a traveling camera with good low light capabilities. Being familiar with the menu of my SX60 and going to the G5 with touch screen is wonderful, and the camera is small enough for travel and takes super pics. Highly recommended!

I've tried the Sony RX-100 M2 & Sony RX-100 M3 and loved the image quality in both, but wished the M2 had a viewfinder, and wished the M3, which has a viewfinder had the 24-100 mm range of the M2. Canon to the rescue! The G5X has the 24-100 mm range of the M2 and adds a great built-in viewfinder, a fully articulated LCD screen, and a solid build with a good grip. It's like a mini DSLR. It is fun to shoot and I found the image quality similar to the impressive Rx-100s.

I've recently joined the vlogging bandwagon and needed a camera with a viewfinder that I can see while I film (gotta make sure I'm actually in the frame) and wanted a fairly lightweight camera...this camera has been perfect! It focuses fairly easily and captures clear video/picture. I love the touchscreen too. When it does go out of focus, all I have to do is tap the screen and I'm good to go. The overall quality of the camera is nice and sturdy. I can set it down without having to worry about scratching it. I'll eventually upgrade to a higher quality camera, but due to the amazing quality of this camera, I'll be able to either keep using it as a spare or pass it down to my kids to use. I love it.

This is my second big camera purchase and I'm beyond impressed. I expected the camera to have good quality but it has exceeded every expectation. The camera quality is superb and it's the perfect size. On top of that it's easy to understand as far as the settings and adjusting things for different purposes. I'm a beginner that makes weekly volgs; this is an advanced camera but set up where it's simple for beginners to understand and master. It has an app that allows you to control it from your phone and you're able to save you items instantly. Also connects to wifi and allows you to connect to other things in a wireless way.

I wanted to love this camera, but I merely like it. These are the reasons why I did not give this camera five stars.
It is not intuitive and the directions are unclear at times. For example, in setting up wifi, we finally quit using the directions and used trial and error.
There's too much time lag when shooting single photos.
For an expensive point and shoot camera I expected fairly perfect color in the auto setting. Not so. Too often I get sun-bleached pics even when the pic looks great on the screen.
The camera does take good pictures most of the time. We've used lots of the features which turned out to be handier than I expected. We're still getting used to the quirks and expect we'll like it better eventually.

I recently started a blog and a vlog so I decided to downsize from my Canon T6i to a point and shoot camera, I needed something small enough that I could take everywhere with me and that also provided good quality pictures and video so I started my research and obviously it HAD to be Canon (to me Canon is the best brand out there) it came down to the G7X Mark ii or the G5X. As you know I went with the g5x for many reasons like I preferred the flip out screen to the flip up screen because there are so many angle varieties and you can also flip the screen to where it's hidden so you won't get any scratches. It has a more classical DLSR look to me which made me feel comfortable since that's the type of camera I started with. I could babble on about this item because I really love it the picture and video quality is amazing!!!

Quality built camera that has many features. It's great to have a fully articulating screen, as well as an excellent electronic viewfinder, which comes in handy to compose your shot.. Also has a better zoom range then the Sony RX 100 series cameras.....but yet has the same sensor as the Sony cameras.
The 1 inch sensor really helps in low light shots.....this camera will not disappoint.

I'm not a professional photographer, but wanted something with a bigger sensor. Was looking at the Canon g7x Mark II, but it got delayed and wasn't available before my trip to Disney World, so I got the g5x. Takes great pictures, and I love the fully articulated screen. It's a bit bulkier than I would have liked due to the viewfinder, which is why I was looking at the g7x Mark II, but the viewfinder can come in handy. Overall very happy with the camera.

I was looking for a travel camera that is a bit smaller and lighter then my Canon Powershot SX40HS. I have been very happy with the SX40 and was concerned about sacrificing quality for convenience. I needn't have worried. The little GX5 is a quality camera. I miss the larger zoom and have bit of a learning curve to as the G% is not as intuitive, but the photos are great.

I got this for travel and everyday use. It's easy to keep with me all day, takes great pics, although the zoom range is limited, it's enough for most situations. I like that you can set everything manually and the screen flips all the way around to protect it when not in use. Overeall, I really like this camera.

The Canon G5 X is a great portable alternative to a DSLR. It has a multi-angle LCD screen plus an electronic viewfinder for times when it is difficult to see the screen. The hot boot feature is great for adding an external flash or a microphone for better sound quality. The buttons are customizable, well located and easy to use. Perfect for traveling - It doesn't take up much space but has the features to capture amazing pictures. I compared this to all of the other cameras in this class before purchasing. This had every feature I needed, and some extras that the more expensive cameras lacked.

Great travel camera for pros

This is a great camera - it feels and handles a lot like my old Canon G12 that served me well for many years (and which I was seeking to replace). I tried both this and the Canon Powershot G7X Mark ii, and in the end, I kept the G7X Mark II and returned this one. Nothing really wrong with the G5 X, but I felt the G7X was superior for my needs and preferences, particularly low light indoor action shots (basketball). I also think the G7X produces richer tones and colors - more of the Canon "pop" with high saturation that I prefer. These differences were very subtle, but those were the deciding factors for me personally. Both cameras are great though, and it really just comes down to preference. If you prefer an actual viewfinder, then the G5X is the camera for you... I will also add that Best Buy handled the refund / exchange for me flawlessly, with a smile! Great service - thank you!

I contemplated this camera for weeks. Love my DSLR but was tired of the bulk. This camera is the perfect blend of DSLR and point-and-shoot! Love the viewfinder and the rotating screen!

The camera is small enough to put in my jacket pocket. The sensor is excellent, I have not use the flash at all. Night photos are excellent. Just got to be careful with your right hand as you will have a tendency to touch the control on the right of the LCD and trigger them.

Beautiful quality of image, fast, sharp and easy to use. I've found only one problem and it's that it won't work with tripod mounts that are meant to hold, like the ones used with phones and small cameras. With this one you have to use the screw mount, since the camera won't fit the holding mount because of the viewfinder. Overall excellent camera for video and simple pictures.
